From Flab to Fab…My Bio With Picture Proof

Monday, May 5th, 2008

In February 2007, I was a flabby fatty. I was living the life of a typical college kid. I was sucking down Miller Lites’ night after night, and I was fueled by Ramen. In high school I played Football for a year until I was in a major car accident. After the car accident, I was diagnosed with scoliosis. Scoliosis is a curvature growth in your spine. Instead of having scoliosis in just the top or bottom of my spine, I had it in both places. That day, I knew my sports career was over. I was always more of a scholar and not playing sports didn’t drive me to insanity like it would do to most people in my position.

The most important thing to me was staying active. After high school and college, was when I resorted to the crap diet. The crap diet consists of high intake of fast food, heavy alcohol intake, and lots of ramen noodles.

In October of 2006, I moved into my first apartment. Me and my roommate got our first real jobs. After 2 weeks we were fired over something really stupid and petty. We couldn’t find jobs for months. I went into a deep battle with depression. And this is where the poor eating habits came in. Not to mention I was broke, so .99 cent fast food and ramen was just about all I could afford.

From November 2006 - November 2007 I went through hell. I couldn’t find a good enough job to pay the bills, so I always seemed to just barely make it. This further progressed my depression. This is starting to sound really depressing :(

In December 2007 I was diagnosed with Graves disease. It’s a condition that affects your thyroid gland. In my case, just like with scoliosis, I had the worst case of Graves disease possible. My condition spiraled out of control so bad, that I lost 85 pounds, my eyes began to protrude from their sockets, and I was deathly ill. I could barely stand up straight most of the time. It was absolutely awful.

In January 2008 I was treated with radioactive iodine and began to get my body back in check. I was 155 pounds of solid skinny.

Here’s the good and positive part…FINALLY! In January 2008, I got a great job in the field of internet marketing. It’s a work from home job, and I make awesome money. It seemed that things were beginning to turn around for me. My spirits were lifted after nearly two years of hell.

It’s now May 2008. In 5 months I’ve gained 41 pounds of relatively lean muscle mass and I attribute it to good positive thoughts, (mental clarity) good eating habits, and a hardcore workout routine.

I hope I didn’t bore you too much, but I just wanted to share my story and hope it inspires someone. Below are pictures I’ve taken of my journey so far. I’m going from Flab to Fab, and this journey will continue until the end of my time. I want to be the best I can be, and get as naturally big, lean, and cut as possible. So this won’t be the last time you hear about my progression. I will be posting updates every 90 days.

Good luck on your journey of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness :)

Steroid Crackdown in Professional Bodybuilding

Monday, April 28th, 2008

In January, the local news in Dallas, TX released a report of a new steroid crackdown in bodybuilding. It was previously thought that bodybuilding would be left alone, since it is not a "major league" sport. However, because of the huge sales and distribution of steroids by many amateur and professional bodybuilders, the feds are cracking down on the sport.

In the January news report, I was astonished when I heard that IFBB Pro Art Atwood was under federal indictment for steroid distribution. He was alleged caught, after his Plano, TX apartment was raided by federal authorities. There hasn’t been any updates to his case that I know of yet.

I was personally upset to hear about Art’s steroid dealings. I remember meeting him at the gym two years ago. I had just gotten up from doing some lat rows, and I looked over to my left and saw him walk in. Everyone stood there and starred at him, and I was the only one who had the "courage" to go up to him. I guess they thought he would be an ass hole or something. But he was far from it. He was very cool and laid back. I hope the best for him and the industry as a whole. Although I’m against steroid abuse, I’d hate to see it regulated in bodybuilding because I love the look of the modern bodybuilder. Although, I think they should cut the growth gut and tighten the waistline.

Celebrity Steroid Allegations

Monday, April 28th, 2008

I’m sure you’ve heard that many celebs are being investigated for steroid and hgh abuse. The top celebs include: 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige, Tyler Perry, and Super Producer Timbaland. I’m not sure how I feel about this. I’m personally against steroid abuse, especially in the main stream media. I’m just sick of the persona’s and "images" they portray.

I’m further more extremely bothered about steroids in main stream sports. It’s bad enough there’s so much cheating amongst officials and referees. Adding steroids makes it even worse.

How do you build bulk without getting fat?

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

I started my new weight lifting routine 7 weeks ago. I currently do 5 sets/6 reps of exercises. I’ve seen some great gains in weight and the weight keeps increasing on my exercises. I’ve also unfortunately noticed my gut getting bigger too. I’m taking protein supplements and creatine.

How do you put on lean muscle mass without getting fat? One thing I will say is this… I don’t do any cardio because I’m afraid of losing weight. I know that I need to do cardio, otherwise my gut will continue to grow. What’s a good amount of cardio to do for someone trying to bulk?

What kind of BOOTY do you like?

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

What kind of BOOTY do you like? Yeah that’s right? I asked. The reason I ask is because within the fitness industry many women have tight firm buns. But what’s the personal preference of men and what kind of butt do ladies aspire to have. Do men want firm and tight, big and bubbly, flap jack, in-between? What?

There’s so many celebrity butts that women aspire to have. Some of the hottest hollywood asses preferred by men and women are Jessica Biel, Jennifer Lopez, and Beyonce. What I find interesting is… All of those women have some rather large buns. This topic also brings up another interesting subject…

It seems that lately, there has been more sexual interest in butts than boobs. Men seem to care more about the booty nowadays. Does this make any of you ladies want to decide against breast implants if you had previously had interest in them?

This subject is so large, I could keep going on and on.

Choosing a Fitness Center

Choosing a Fitness Center

Joining a fitness center is the beginning of getting into shape but there are some things you need to consider when choosing a fitness center.

Lets face it the choices for fitness center memberships are pretty wide. From expensive gyms that offer racquet ball, cocktail lounges, and full spa facilities to the basic gym that has all the equipment you'’ll ever need but no frills. Choosing can be bit difficult. Thankfully you tell a lot before you ever buy that membership.

The way to choose a fitness center is based on your fitness goals. What do you want to achieve and how do you achieve that? Consider what it is you want to work on. Do you need free weights? Aerobic classes? Cardio equipment? Look for a gym that can meet your needs. If you aren'’t sure what your fitness goals are then you need to meet with a personal trainer.

When you'’ve lined up a fitness center that appears to fit you needs pay a visit. If there is more than one than pay a visit to all of them. Learn what equipment they have to offer, what additional services they have, what the hours are. Meet the staff, see what you think of them, and take a tour of the club.

Find out as much information as you can and if you decide to join the fitness center and make sure you ask about:

1. Location and hours. Is the fitness center near your home or work place? Is the facility open during the time period that you plan to exercise? During what times is the facility most crowded?

2. Environment. Will you enjoy spending time in the fitness center? Are the floors, locker rooms, and equipment clean? Is there entertainment available such as televisions or personal music stations?

3. Equipment. Does the fitness center have the equipment you'’ want to use? Does the equipment appear to be well maintained and in good shape? Does the facility offer other activities for your health needs or disabilities?

4. Classes. What type of classes does the fitness center offer ? how often? when? Do they limit class sizes?

5. Staff. Are the staff that work at the fitness center friendly? Are they trained in CPR and first aid? Are there personal trainers available? What type of qualifications do the staff members have?

6. Amenities. Does the fitness center offer convenient parking, sauna, towels, or child care services?

7. Reputation. What do others say about the fitness center?

8. Cost. How much does membership cost at this fitness center? How do their billing cycles run? What are the opt-out policies? Are any additional fees charged for specific amenities?

The more information you can collect on each fitness center that you are interested in the better able you will be to make the right decision for your personal fitness needs.

It is always nice to find a fitness center that will let you try before you buy. Most of the larger chain facilities make these offers but don'’t be afraid to ask at any of the fitness centers if the offer free trial memberships. Visit the fitness center at the same time of day or night that you plan to exercise. This will tell you the availability of the machines, how busy the cardio equipment is and even what the shower facilities look like.

When choosing a fitness center choose the facility that gives you the most value.

Finding a Fitness Trainer

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Finding a Fitness Trainer

The decision to get fit is a great goal to set for yourself, but it can be hard knowing where to start. A Fitness Trainer can assist you by discussing what you want to accomplish from your efforts. Some people want to lose weight, some what to tone their body, and others want to build their muscles. There are specific exercise programs that a Fitness Trainer can recommend to help you in the area you choose to work on. They can also show you the correct way to do each of the exercises so that you get the maximum benefit from your workout.

Finding the right Fitness Trainer for you is easier than you think. If you belong to a gym or fitness center, ask about a personal Fitness Trainer program. For those of you who want to work out on your own or who don'’t have a gym in your area, you will have to search a little bit harder for a Fitness Trainer. Ask your doctor, friends, and family members if they can recommend anyone to you. The internet is a great place to locate any in your area as well as give you some basic information on what a Fitness Trainer can do for you.

Fitness trainers are going to vary in their methods. You will want to talk openly with a Fitness Trainer regarding their philosophy, training, and consulting methods. You will also want to discuss their educational background and certification as a Fitness Trainer. Of course, the cost of their service is going to be an important factor to discuss as well.

Ask them why they became a Fitness Trainer. Ask for references who you can contact regarding their experiences with the Fitness Trainer. Since you are going to be exercising in your free time, you are going to have to discuss a schedule that works well for both of you. Make sure you share your fitness fears with the personal trainer and see how they react. They should also be made aware of your fitness level and any health concerns that are going to need to be considered while getting fit.

After talking, you should feel comfortable with the Fitness Trainer. If you don'’t feel like you are compatible then keep looking. You need the time and money you spend with a Fitness Trainer to be well spent, not stressful. Trust your instincts when it comes to being around this particular individual. It is a good idea to talk with at least three potential Fitness Trainers before you make a final decision based on what each has to offer you.

Getting fit is easier when you have the expertise of a Fitness Trainer behind you. They are great for motivating you as well as giving you personal attention to meet your fitness goals. Make sure the Fitness Trainer you choose to work with has your best interests in mind as you work together to devise a challenging yet rewarding fitness program that are going to give you the results you having been hoping for.

Choosing a Fitness Program

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Choosing a Fitness Program

A fitness program is something everyone should have regardless of their age. While everyone has a different fitness level, for the most part everyone should be able to do some type of fitness program. It is always a good idea to check with your doctor before embarking on a new fitness program. There are many great fitness programs out there to choose from. You can also design your own or have a personal trainer help you design one.

The fitness program that is right for depends on many factors. You will need to take your current fitness level into consideration. The goal needs to be to implement a fitness program that is going to challenge you but that would lead to any health issues. It is important to evaluate any current health issues you have before developing a fitness program. For example someone with a bad back shouldn'’t lift weights but would be fine to jog or walk. A person with bad knees may not be able to run but they may be able to walk on flat terrain.

No matter what fitness program you decide to use, it is going to fail if you aren'’t prepared to work hard and dedicate your time to it. This means putting your heart into following through. Yes, we are all busy, but your health is vital to allowing you the ability to do any thing right? Schedule time for your fitness program and then refuse to give up that time. If it means you have to get up earlier or skip some TV time then do it. It may mean your email doesn'’t get checked every day or your dishes aren'’t put away but those things can accumulate without too much problem. Your health is not something you want to push aside.

You are going to have to decide on a fitness program that will help you achieve the fitness goals you have set, but also involves exercises and activities that you enjoy doing. Would you rather have a fitness program you have to force yourself to do or one that you look forward to doing? Don'’t have unrealistic goals for your fitness program or you will be disappointed and frustrated with yourself. Focus on what you are able to achieve rather than what you didn'’t.

For the best results design a fitness program with the help of a personal trainer or a doctor. Make sure it focuses on your goals and your abilities. Don'’t compare your fitness program with that of anyone else. You are not in a competition, but on a quest to succeed at implementing a fitness program that will make you feel and look your best. If you do that, then give yourself some credit as you are doing much better than the majority of the population. If you want to reduce your chances of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, have more energy, and boost your metabolism then you need to work on implementing a quality fitness program.
