Have you ever been to the mall and seen a mother pushing a stroller with two kids that looked so youthful, you wondered if she was the baby sitter? That’s what popped in my mind when I found out Julia (or Fulbodyslowburn as she’s called on bodyspace.com) was a mother of two with the body of a front cover fitness model. I almost didn’t believe it! One look at her profile and you’ll know what I mean.
Julia isn’t the typical “mommy body transformation” you often here about. She has been into physical fitness and working out her whole life. But now she has a new goal. She wants to be on the cover of a fitness magazine. Many people think they have what it takes, but I think Julia is a real serious contender. She knows how to pose, she’s not camera shy, and when she takes pictures there seems to be a special bond between her and the camera. She also has a very versatile yet exotic look to her that is quite different than the typical blonde-hair sun-fried-skin look you often see when looking at typical cover girls.
Besides Julia’s stunning looks, she also has a very cool charisma about herself. She seems to be a very happy-go-lucky kind of gal. When asked why do you love working out, Julia said: “The GYM is my church, if you will. I go there to clear my head and refresh my body.” I found that to be pretty dedicational. After hearing that quote, it was quite obvious to me how the mother of two got back into shape after two kids. With those powerful words, we can take lesson from Julia as the prophet of inspiration. If you struggle with making time for the gym or dedicating yourself to the gym, remember Julia’s words and think of the gym as your ultimate mind, body, and soul cleanser.
I’d like to thank Julia (Fulbodyslowburn) for accepting this interview and taking time to inspire us. Her words, dedication, and perseverance are truly remarkable.
Q 1: How does working out impact you the most?
A 1: Oddly enough it gives me the energy that I need to keep up with my kids.
Q 2: How do you stay so committed to a gym and diet routine?
A 2: I have a few workout partners that depend on me as much as I depend on them. I also consult a nutritionist.
Q 3: What words of encouragement can you offer mothers trying to get into shape that say, “They don’t have time for the gym?”
A 3: I’d say that you dont need a church to pray and you dont need a Gym to workout. Milk jugs make great weights and the floor makes a great crunch machine.
Q 4: Do you ever have days you don’t feel like going to the gym? How do you keep yourself motivated to go?
A 4: Well I know that if I dont go, I will have to make up the workout I missed the next day on top of that days workout. That’s just more then I have time for, plus I know that I will be draggin butt all day. That works for me.
Q 5: What kind of small business do you operate?
A 5: A party planning business. I am also a personal trainner and dabble in mortgage and Real Estate. So I stay busy!!!!
Q 6: Do you have any particular magazines you want to be in?
A 6: YES!!! HER’S MUSCLE & FITNESS
Q 7: Do you have any areas of your body you’d like to continue transforming?
A 7: Yes, I think that we are never truly happy with our bodies. And for me the one area that I have always disliked the most are my legs! But I am working very hard to overcome that. Today I set a personal record, I leg-pressed 360 pounds. I feel so strong! Who knew these chicken legs where that strong? Not me, but I do now!
Q 8: What do you consider to be your body’s greatest asset?
A 8: My greatest asset, my ASS!!! Thank you mother for a butt like this. I guess that over the years it has held it’s shape the best and that’s why I love it!
Q 9: What do you think is the primary reason(s) many people can’t dedicate themselves to a gym/diet routine, and do you have any suggestions to help them fix it?
A 9: Well I believe that we all have things that we love to eat and shouldn’t. For me it’s chocolate cake. So I tell myself and anyone I train that if you stick to a healthy diet and train regularly, then you can cheat once a week. Something small ok. Not the whole cake; just a few bites so you get the taste, then you get up in the morning and burn it off with cardio and weights. It is cheating, not a reward. So you do have to pay for it.
Q 10: What’s the future have in store for Julia/Fulbodyslowburn?
A 10: God willing I will be in many fitness mags and adds maybe even a competition. But mostly I just want to continue feeling and looking like a young beautiful mother! Isn’t that what we all want!

What comes to mind when you think of a 45 year old mother of 2? Most people would think of a mildly attractive woman with post-baby weight, a butched hair-cut, and someone who probably kissed their 20 something body good bye. If that’s what you think, that would not describe Amy Kessler.
Amy is a 45 year old fitness phenomenon and mother of two. At the age of 17, she was one of the first girls in her high school to lift weights. From the looks of her Romanesque-sculptured body; she never put a weight down. Amy’s body is truly an inspiration, but what’s more of an inspiration is her willingness to help others. Amy is one of bodyspace.com’s leading ladies. She actively participates in comment contribution; she ranks in the top 10 profile division of bodyspace.com (of 150,000 bodyspace.com members) and she’s a defiant fitness competitor.
I’d like to extend my deepest thanks for being privileged to conduct this interview; of the Marvelous Amy Kessler.
Q 1: What made you want to be one of the first girls in your high school gym to lift weights?
A 1: I was pretty much a tom-boy and wanted to do whatever the boys could do. Also, not having a lot of support at home with sports, it was something after school where I received some positive feedback…when I didn’t get it at home. Plus, I started seeing my arms and legs take shape…THEN I WAS HOOKED!
Q 2: What motivates you to push through the last difficult rep that often makes and breaks others?
A 2: Hearing my trainer’s voice pushing me to get one more rep OR visualizing myself on stage being handed a First Place Trophy. (It might not always happen, but if I can visualize how I want to look on stage, how I want to present myself, I can get motivated to push out one more rep.
Q 3: What kind of music keeps you amped up?
A 3: HIP HOP…ALWAYS and really, really loud. I listen to all kinds of music. Music is like a drug for me…it makes me happy, it keeps me moving, and if it’s loud enough…it gets me amped for a great workout!
Q 4: What advice would you give to struggling mothers who can’t seem to “cut the fat?”
A 4: Boy, that’s a tough question to answer. Everybody’s body is so different…but I would say it’s sometimes something as simple as watching your PORTIONS. You need to really limit your sugar intake, watch your carbs and fat and READ LABELS. AND most importantly…MOVE YOUR BODY!! GET SOME EXERCISE…even if it’s a minimal start.
Q 5: Do you believe there are any valid excuses for making time for the gym?
A 5: There are always reasons why we don’t make it to the gym…sick children, family emergency’s, etc. BUT, I believe everybody has 30 minutes a day to get to the gym. NO EXCUSE! WE ALL have busy lives…if you want your body (and mind) to change, you MUST put forth an effort. Find whatever it takes to get you motivated and GET TO THE GYM!
Q 6: How can working mothers make time for the gym?
A 6: Take your children to the gym with you…it’ll be good for them. Most have daycare. Children NEED to see a mother working out. BELIEVE me when I say I understand…I have two children. But, there are ways to fit it in…you have to find what works for you. Even walking outside…getting weights for your home if you can’t make it to a gym…but I would always recommend going to the gym, because of the atmosphere and support that you have there. You will be more motivated if you are surrounded by people doing the same thing you’re doing. GETTING FIT and HEALTHY!
Q 7: What gave you the courage to enter into your first competition?
A 7: I actually dated someone that competed. But, I love competition! I am driven and motivated by it; probably because I am my worst critic and my biggest competitor.
Q 8: Is it ever too late to start working out?
A 8: One word…….NEVER!!!!!
Q 9: If you weren’t a fitness consultant and competitor, what other occupation would you consider?
A 9: My background is bookkeeping. Accounts Payables and Receivables. I love the numbers game.
Q 10: What has been the biggest benefit fitness training has made in your life?
A 10: First, my children will always have this in their life and will know what it takes to be healthy and fit. They will have good knowledge of balanced nutrition, training and the fun foods that they will take with them as they grow. Secondly, the people that training has brought into my life, is unbelievable. I cherish the people that are in my life. I love seeing people get results and how it makes them feel about themselves. It’s truly uplifting when someone tells you that you inspire them and motivate them. If I can make someone feel that great about there body and mind, their self-image and self-worth and bring it all together…MY JOB IS COMPLETE!

Alissa (simply using her first name) is somewhat of a jack-of-all trades. She’s a mother, spokes model, interior designer, fitness competitor, and inspiration to all. Alissa’s balancing act really caught my eye. One look at her bodyspace progression pictures and you’ll know what I’m talking about. Alissa never seemed to be “fat” or over weight, even after child birth. But something inside of her seems to be driven to perfection. As her body is today, it’s the model any women her age, older, or younger would die for. But yet she’s striving for even better results. The tenacity she has was such an inspiration to me because I’ve gone through moments in life (especially recently) when I wanted to just throw in the towel and give up. I felt like I had to balance too many things. I wanted to give up on life, my fitness goals, my business, but I always had this burning desire to strive for more. People like Alissa have a contagious spirit of giving that “burning desire” to others.
I’ve interviewed several women with similar lifestyles as Alissa’s, and some how these women balance their lives with such grace. I’m not sure what the secret is. While many men complain about their 9-5’s, I keep seeing women with 5-9 different balancing acts. And that don’t seem to complain. They even stack on more tasks.
It’s something deeper than a balancing act. There is some real heart and motivation behind it. What make’s Alissa such an empowered person?
Q 1: How do you maintain so many different things in your life without failure (raising a child, interior designing, gym training, and spokes model)?
A 1: If you really want something, you’ll find a way to make it work. I am very fortunate to have so much help from my husband. He always picks up the slack for me when I need it. I do have a routine and that helps, but I also have flexibility with the hours I work because I own my own business. Unfortunately this means I do work most evenings and weekends. Once my daughter starts preschool it will make my life much easier, so I am looking forward to that.
Q 2: What do you think is society’s biggest problem with laziness, and how can people over come it?
A 2: I think people now days take on too much and don’t make themselves a priority. Routines and schedules are essential in my daily life. If you can fit exercise into your routine (it may be tough at first) it really becomes part of your life. It’s something people just need to do. It’s good to be a little selfish once in a while!
Q 3: What makes Alissa different from others?
A 3: I am an outgoing person, but I am somewhat reserved. I enjoy hard work, and I am a bit of an overachiever. I love painting; drawing, sewing, and reading, but I rarely have time. I am also pretty handy around the house.
Q 4: Who has given you the most motivation and desire in life?
A 4: My mother has always been an inspiration to me. Growing up she worked part time, taught aerobics classes, kept our house immaculately clean, and she was always home when we got home from school. She is extremely organized and efficient. I have always admired that about her. She was a great role model for me growing up, and she made me feel like I could do anything.
Q 5: Why is getting your pro card so important to you?
A 5: I guess I just feel like if I could do it, I could do anything!
Q 6: How did you feel after your first fitness competition?
A 6: After my first competition I was so excited! I had such a great time, and I loved all the girls I met. The whole experience was fun from picking out your suits to painting your tan, and eating your post contest cheat meal!
Q 7: What advice can you give the working mother to get her motivated to get into shape?
A 7: It is so hard to start; I know I have been there. There is no better feeling than being fit, strong, and confident. We need to lead by example for our kids, and teach them how to live a healthy lifestyle.
Q 8: What does healthy mean to you?
A 8: Healthy to me is living a balanced life, eating a healthy balanced diet, living an active lifestyle and most of all being happy. Setting goals for my self keeps me on track and gives me a purpose.
Q 9: What makes you such an empowered person?
A 9: That’s a tough question, but I think I am greatly influenced by the people in my life. I am surrounded by strong and successful people who make me want to work hard and do well.
Q 10: What does the future hold for Alissa?
A 10: The plan, for now, is to continue to build my interior design business, and compete. I hope to compete at the national level by the end of the year.

Remember watching the classic movie battles between the Romans and Spartans? Or maybe you didn’t. Well if you didn’t, let me give you a brief history lesson. The Ancient Spartans were the greatest empire of its time. They were eventually bestowed by the Roman Empire, but throughout history after the Spartans downfall, there was also a Rogue Warrior who came from behind the shadows to reclaim the Spartan Authority.
Krista (simply using her first name) calls her self “The Spartan Princess.” One look at her body and a deep look into her soul, you will definitely find the warrior’s will inside of Krista. She’s a modern day “Spartan Princess” in every since of the word. Standing at 5’6 and 118 lbs with solid muscle definition, she definitely has the stature of a Spartan. But more than her physical stature, I find interest in her mind. Listen to this quote on the subject of Krista’s goals:
“In the end I want to be able to say that I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” When I read this quote I was blown away. I was almost compelled to do a Google search to find quotes from Socrates; the Great Greek Philosopher. That wasn’t necessary though, because Krista’s words were inspirational enough. At the age of just 20 years old, you don’t hear young people speak with that kind of tenacity. Her words provide so much power and motivation.
In addition, Krista seems to be a guiding light of a humanitarian. Her occupation resides as an intensive care nurse. If that doesn’t take heart and soul, then I don’t know what else does. Barbara Walters; if you’re out there reading, please add Krista to your list of “Most Influential People.” People like Krista are a dime a dozen.
I’d like to thank Krista with the utmost honor in participating in this interview. She told me it was an honor for me to choose her, but the shoe is definitely on the other end. Please get up out of your seat and give Krista “The Spartan Princess,” a standing ovation.
Q 1: I noticed from your bodyspace.com progress pics, that you started actively working out in March 2007, it has only been 11 months and your body transformation has gone from slim and trim to toned and sculpted. How did you gain the “Spartan Princess” Body?
A 1: With the guidance of my fiancé, I worked each main muscle group primarily once a week, sometimes two. We would go to the gym three to five times a week depending on our schedule. I (we) focused on low repetitions with heavier weight. I would do twelve reps, ten reps, then another set of ten reps, and then end with the heaviest weight for six reps. I would increase the weight each set of reps by five or ten pounds. I would do this so that my last set of reps I would go to failure within the sixth repetition. I did cardio after a work out for twenty minutes; two or so times a week.
As far as diet is concerned, I ate (eat) about 5-6 small meals a day; making sure I ate an abundant amount of protein. I also made sure I ate breakfast every morning. On average every two to three hours I would eat a little snack such as a banana or part of protein shake. I also would try to limit the intake of sugar type calories more so then the ingestion of fat type calories due to the fact that eating fat is not what actually makes one fat. I am a soul believer that eating everything in moderation is the key.
Q 2: Where did you gain so much wisdom at such an early age?
A 2: To be completely honest I do not consider myself to be an individual that comprises an abundance amount of knowledge, however, I do love to continuously learn and take the opportunity to drawl from every situation, either good or bad, the lessons that are to be obtained from the presenting situation. I may not always be able to control what life brings my way as far as obstacles and hardships such as the loss of my Dad, but one thing that is for certain, I can control how I react. I can either choose to learn from it, gain strength spiritually and/ or physically, and hold my head high; or I can focus on the negative of the situation and continue on a plateau that will eventually lead to a downward spiral in my attitude and my outlook on and in life. Therefore, I am one to choose to take and learn from every situation and press forward in life with perseverance and determination knowing that God will never give me more than what I can handle.
Q 3: What has kept you so faithfully motivated to your workout? And what can you say to others who are struggling with dedication and commitment?
A 3: One of the things that have kept me faithful and motivated to persist in working out is my fiancé. I must say that having a partner to workout with has and will continually help me stay focused. In addition, seeing the positive results of lifting has kept me motivated. I would strongly suggest finding a workout partner who can help you stay focused and motivated to keep lifting. However, in the end no matter what you do, you yourself, have got to want it. No one can make you do something that you don’t want to do, but I will say that the effects of lifting are worth it. The improvement in health, energy, and focus as well as much more far out weigh the reasons not to workout.
Q 4: I noticed you mentioned your fiancé three times on your profile, and how much he has encouraged you. I have done the same with my girlfriend and it is drawing our relationship much closer. How important do you think it is for couples to workout together?
A 4: I think that it is a wonderful opportunity for couples’s relationship to develop in a deeper way. It is a different way to encourage and cheer on each other to do more then what he or she thinks he/she can handle. I have found that working out together has also improved our communication and support for each other. I think it is a great opportunity to grow in a relationship.
Q 5: You’re very active in the bodyspace.com forums and you have such a positive attitude. How do you maintain your positive attitude and how much has working out and living healthy played a role in your positivity?
A 5: Well, I believe that surrounding myself with others that are positive and uplifting helped me stay focused and positive. Working out has helped me feel better about myself. With every time I pick up a weight that when I first started I thought I could never lift and now I have either passed the weight or am working on out lifting it, has given me the mentality to not put my abilities in a box and not limit myself as to how far I can go both in lifting and in life.
Q 6: You seem to be very photogenic. (A trait I wish I had) Have you given any thought to fitness modeling?
A 6: That is quite an interesting question there Mike : ) Well, I actually have not thought about it due to the fact that I have never been asked, but I would imagine that if I did modeling I believe it would be an interesting learning experience. I guess it would really depend on what type of fitness modeling if the opportunity ever presented.
Q 7: As I’m sure you know; many young girls idolize body types like yours. What words of encouragement can you give them to start an exercise routine? What words of encouragement could you give to young women who go about weight loss dangerously? (crash diets, diet pill addictions, etc.)
A 7: Well first of all, crash diets, diet pills, starving, and/or purging oneself is not the answer. It can lead to several health problems and even death in some cases. Crash diets and other methods may work for a while, but in the long run nothing but harm is being done. In addition, usually when the methods that were used to loose weight other then eating right and exercising such as diet pills are stopped; the weight comes back quickly and possibly in more abundance. It does more harm to ones body then good, both physically and mentally, and it can be dangerous.
Exercising such as cardio and lifting weights in addition to eating a balanced diet is the safest and assured way to loose weight in a healthy manor and keep it off. Exercising not only helps one loose weight, but also helps stay focused, assists in relieving stress, and also helps in gaining self confidence.
I would suggest finding individuals that will encourage and help keep you motivated to exercises. I challenge those who may struggle with self confidence to look at themselves in the mirror and pick on thing about him/her self that they are thankful for and say it to yourselves either audibly or silently inside over and over again, even if you all don’t fully believe it; and keep doing it everyday and just maybe one of those days you will finally understand how fortunate and wonderful you really are both inside and out.
Q 8: What makes exercise and a healthy lifestyle so important to you?
A 8: In my opinion, life is already to short so to pass away by something that could have been prevented such as complications of obesity is saddening. We are given only one body so why don’t we do all what we can to take care of it.
Q 9: Many people of your age group are college students, many of which who work and go to school full-time. What words of encouragement could you give for those who say, “I don’t have enough time to workout”?
A 9: I do understand what it is like to have crazy and at times overwhelming schedules. At times it feels as though time and life are going by so fast it is hard to keep, but I strongly suggest taking time out at least three to four times a week to take a walk with your significant other or a friend or go to the gym and lift weights. Something is better than nothing; and who knows, in time you may feel more refreshed, energized, and younger. I believe we as individuals make time out of our busy day for things that we like to do. It is all about priorities and prioritizing.
Q 10: What does the future have in store for Krista?
A 10: I am marrying Mr. Fisher (aka Fisher33 in bodybuilding.com) in September of this year. I plan to eventually go on to obtain my bachelors in nursing. I am presently working on achieving my personal trainer’s license; and possibly within the next couple of years compete in a fitness competition.

Have you seen the movie: Transformers? Of course you have. It broke box office records! If not, don’t worry because there’s a transformer they left out of the movie that is much more of a spectacle than “Bumble Bee” or even “Optimus Prime.” Her name is Constance Petot. Or as she’s know on bodyspace.com: Cnstnce.
She’s a well oiled machine with a body transformation out of this world. She went from slight body flab, to a buxom body that’s fab! My initial chat a while back with Constance didn’t go so well. I posted a blog about sexual indecency amongst women showing their “ass shots” on the bodyspace.com fitness community. She immediately struck back and defended herself by saying she, had just cause to flaunt what she got because she was an inspiration to so many women on the site who looked at her as a means of a great body transformation.
Once I reviewed her progression pics, I was in complete amazement and quickly shut my mouth. Constance never seemed to be “fat” or “over-weight.” She had the typical slim women’s body of her age, with a slight pouch and slight flab. But apparently for her, that wasn’t acceptable. Within 11 months, she has lost any reminisce of “love handles,” “flab,” or a “pouch.” Her pouch is now nearly a six-pack and her “love handles” are just curves that land in all the right places most women would die for.
What I found to be so inspirational about Constance is her attitude. It’s the typical “no non-sense” attitude you get from champions. Either you love them or you hate them. I’d venture to say, Constance doesn’t have too many bad critics and if she does, her body transformation should shut them up rather quickly. I found this quote of hers to be truly powerful:
“Quiet women rarely make history.” In the age of “Independent Women,” a lot of women seem to fake it, but Constance really seems to live it. She’s an all or nothing type of Gal. She’s someone you can watch the game with and kick back with like she’s one of the boys, and yet she also seems to maintain her femininity.
Rather you agree or disagree with her sexy body poses or her out spoken attitude, one thing’s for sure; Constance is a body transformation that far super cedes anything in a Hollywood Movie. She’s out of this world. And she’s an inspiration to women and men of all ages.
Q 1: What drove you to transform your body?
A 1: Just one long look in the mirror was all it took. I needed to feel like I was healthy and strong, and I just felt miserable in my own skin. I was spending a lot of time in bars and it was showing, so I knew that it was time to do something about it. I quickly started reading up on exercise and found that it wasn’t as intimidating as I had once thought it was, so I became a frequent gym goer. It wasn’t until a year later that I discovered the true importance behind nutrition. It was Tom Venuto’s: Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle that really got me interested in the topic, and from there I started reading everything I could get my hands on. Once the results began to show, I was sold! It happened so fast, I was constantly amazed by what little limitations I actually had.
Q 2: What keeps you striving for competition so fiercely?
A 2: I have always been a competitive person, and combining that with attaining a fabulous physique… well, it just makes sense. I have a lot of competitors around me, and I use their energy to keep me motivated. It’s really inspiring seeing people that are ahead of you in reaching their goals, it makes you push that much harder. I want to step on stage in the fall knowing that I gave absolutely everything I had to give myself the best chance possible.
Q 3: What is your favorite activity outside of the gym?
A 3: I love going to events. Name it: concerts, plays, sporting events, watch my friends compete, anything! I am not a sit on the couch kind of girl. I have to go out and see the world and experience everything that I can. I also love taking my dog to the park or camping in the woods, or learning how to play the guitar.
Q 4: What defines Constance?
A 4: Motivated, ambitious, strong, confident, impatient (we’re not all good,) and caring. I really want the best for others; I want to help anyone that is open to receiving help.
Q 5: How did you build the infamous “Constance Booty” so many women here (at bodyspace.com) desire to have?
A 5: I am so sorry to say ladies, there is no easy way. Its squats and lunges with a clean diet. I do a lot of plyometrics to keep the jiggle down to a minimum, and jump rope as a warm up as well.
Q 6: What do you believe separates sexiness from inappropriateness, and how would you define yourself?
A 6: Bodybuilding.com does a fantastic job of defining what is inappropriate. I have a friend that gets banned a lot so she tells me what pushed them over the edge (sniff, sniff.) Too much breast, pulling panties down in a sexual manner, only the booty in the picture are all deemed inappropriate. I think that it’s really all in the eye of the person looking at it. I try to take fun, different pictures to post on my bodyspace. A few of them are showy, but by no means do I encourage nudity. A little mystery is very, very sexy.
Q 7: What do you say to people who say, “I don’t have time for the gym”?
A 7: I really try to be sympathetic to people who say they don’t have time for themselves, but never having been in that position I have a hard time. To me, time is what you make of it. No one expects you to be in the gym for 5 hours a day, but even 30 minutes of activity can be substantial, and show amazing results. You have to learn how to maximize your time when you are in the gym. Don’t rest in between sets, practice active rest so that you can burn more calories. Learn interval training, it really is a fabulous way to burn more fat in less time, and it’s not a gimmick.
Q 8: If you could choose any other occupation besides a Veterinary Technician, what would you choose to be?
A 8: I’d love to study to be a nutritionist and become a personal trainer and open up a weight loss clinic. Total dream job! We are at war against obesity and I want to be on the front lines.
Q 9: How much has your body transformation transformed your life?
A 9: I feel more confident now, I want to go out and do more. I love shopping, something I never liked before. The greatest thing though is, now, I get approached by family, friends, and co-workers who want advice. I get so excited! I love the opportunity to help others. Some come back to me and tell me of their weight loss and I love it.
Q 10: When and what will be your first competition?
A 10: Oct. 18, 2008 INBF Cardinal Classic in Ohio. Keep it Natural!

Who is Karen/Kag808? She’s a buxom beauty with virtually Barbie’s body stats. But she’s know 18 year old doll. She’s a 31 year old diva. The look in Karen’s eyes gives you the imagination of a panther. The eyes are very fierce and dark with desire. Her prowess is very exotic and out of this world. But physical beauty is not all that Karen/Kag808 is worth. This diva is an inspiration to all man kind.
She’s a size 0 with a flat stomach most men and women would die for and yet she’s still striving for further greatness. I’m not sure what’s left to fix. But if she says so, then I say go for it. Karen seems to think that she’s inspired by others, but the real inspiration is her. She gets over 500 hits to her bodyspace profile/day and has had well over 180,000 total hits.
As you read her profile you get an in depth look at her spirit and who she is as a person. Many people in her physical condition would probably be prancing around in concededness. Karen seems to be far from that. She seems to be very level headed.
She says she stays motivated by looking at all the sexy hard bodies on this site (bodyspace.com) and imagining herself getting there one day. “I just know you all have worked so hard to get where you’re at- If I keep pushing, I’ll accomplish my goals!”
Karen joined her first health club in February 2002, and has fell in love with the gym ever since. That’s dedication that’s worth bragging about.
Karen really inspired me with her results-driven desire. She sees what she wants and is not stopping until she gets it. She has a very focused attitude and the willingness to help others. We could all gain some inspiration by this.
Q 1: You have the body most would consider perfection. What makes you strive to get even better?
A 1: My body is far from perfection, and that is why I strive to get even better. I look at other profiles and there are women with chiseled abs, defined shoulders, just an all over lean, sculpted physique and it drives me even harder to accomplish what some of these women have done.
Q 2: What is the biggest impact weight-training and a healthy lifestyle has made in your life?
A 2: An overall sense of well-being and increased confidence in myself
Q 3: What is your favorite body part of yours?
A 3: Calves. Only part of me that’s somewhat sculpted right now haha!
Q 4: What do you think is the biggest mistake people make when approaching a new weight-training and dieting plan?
A 4: Expecting that results come overnight, and they lose patience. When some people don’t see results as quickly as they would like, they quit. People need to know that it takes time to get to where you want to be regardless of how frustrating it gets.
Q 5: Will you ever consider competing in a fitness show?
A 5: I haven’t really put much thought into that but there is always a possibility.
Q 6: How much time/week do you dedicate in the gym?
A 6: I train 5 days a week, Monday-Friday
Q 7: You mentioned in your bodyspace profile that you hit a plateau. How do you plan to break out of the plateau, and what would be your advice for other people in similar situations?
A 7: I have since changed my routine and tweaked my diet a bit. This is what others have told me, to just keep introducing your body to new things and to not allow it to become accustomed to your training and diet. So far, the change in routine is going well and the carb cycling (3 days low, 1 day high) is helping out with that so I definitely would recommend it to other people.
Q 8: Do you use any sports supplements and how do you feel about their effectiveness?
A 8: I take AST Multi-Pro 32X Vitamins and love them. VPX Zero Carb Protein in Graham Cracker is a godsend, along with AST GL3 Glutamine. I feel like they definitely help out. I have a protein shake post workout with the glutamine and noticed a quicker recovery. Plus since I’m trying to get leaner, the protein having zero carbs and a lower calorie content than most protein powders, is great for that. No extra unwanted carbs and calories!
Q 9: What defines you and makes you a unique individual?
A 9: My willingness to do what it takes, what I enjoy, just my spunky personality.
Q 10: What are your plans for the future?
A 10: To just keep working towards my goals to further improve myself and take things day by day.

Who is Shiva Yearwood? Shiva is the embodiment of GREATNESS! I don’t mean that as a joke or euphemism. One look at her lifestyle and you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. She’s a walking motivation. I’m sure if you walked past her, you’d probably develop some sort of inspiration and not even realize where it came from. She just seems to exude energy. She’s a goddess.
Why is Shiva so inspirational? Well to begin, she’s a master pro fitness model with a pro card. Secondly, she’s 40 and looks better than most 20 year olds, thirdly, she seems to have been born and breed living and breathing fitness. On the subject of how she got started weight-training she says, “I have always loved to train; to be healthy and fit, fitness has always been part of my life.”
When asked how do you stay motivated, Shiva says “I enjoy training, it’s a joy therefore motivation is not an issue to me.” It must be nice to be dedicated without need for motivation. Many people don’t share that trait. Getting most people in the gym is often like pulling teeth. They seem to go, so they make excuses and never meet there goals. Shiva’s unbridled dedication to weight-training was such an inspiration to me because there seems to be so much power behind it. I want to get that power, or at least just get a sample.
Here’s a signature quote of hers that might give us all a sample of the all mighty Goddess Shiva, “The smallest change in attitude can transform a life. What tiny attitude adjustment might turn your world around?" Think about how important and true that is? It relates to all areas of life. Some people live life having a bad day everyday. If they would just make a slight attitude adjustment their lives would be so much easier. Think about this quote as you take on your day.
Q 1: What gave you the courage to enter your first fitness competition?
A 1: It was time to do something challenging, I pushed myself out of my comfort zone. I am very goal oriented. I set a goal and go for it. It gives life direction. I also find that when you get out of your comfort zone, it makes you stronger…
Q 2: How do you stay in such great shape at the age of 40?
A 2: Other than training, may I say:”nutrition? I think we all know in this forum what a major role nutrition plays. I am extrmemly meticulous, and consistent with my food intake. Food to me is fuel to the body and that’s that!!! I rarely have cheat days!!! I rarely crave anything.
Q 3: When dealing with bad days in and out of the gym, what helps maintain your positivity?
A 3: there are no bad days for me, just challenging days. I have learnt that it will pass, all things, good or bad. Remember? “The smallest change in attitude can transform a life”. I adjust my attitude accordingly on a daily basis to fit my needs.
Q 4: What’s your favorite “cheat food?”
A 4: Bigmac / McDonalds
It tastes so good but it took me a while to digest the burger…LOL I wonder why??
Q 5: You have quite a lot of “sexy poses” on your profile. What does sexy mean to you, and does sexy have an age limit?
A 5: Sexy is what u exude. You either have it or u don’t! There is an age appropriateness and yes there is an age limit that needs to be respected.
Q 6: Do you ever see yourself getting tired of weight-training?
A 6: No, I don’t see how. Training has become a necessity and is crucial to my well being. Mentally, emotionally and physically. Not to train is not an option.
Q 7: How far will you take your fitness competition career?
A 7: I have learned to take it one competition at a time. When I project way far ahead, I tend to loose perspective. So, take it slow, one show at a time. One trophy at a time!!! LOL
Q 8: Do you think there’s ever an excuse to not have time for the gym?
A 8: Ok, you hit on very good subject. Some call it “excuses”, I simply call it “poor time management”. I manage my time exactly the same way I manage my money. It’s invested properly and accordingly. I don’t have time nor money to waste.
Q 9: What is the biggest benefit you receive from weight-training and living a healthy lifestyle?
A 9: The biggest benefit is watching my children being involved into sports. I have an 11 year old son and a 5 year old daughter. Both of them are gifted athletes, like their father (never mind me). I am looking forward to see what sports they will excel in.
Q 10: What’s in the future for Shiva?
A 10: I am getting older, and I plan on going about very graciously. It’s been an amazing ride thus far…
I don’t know what tomorrow holds, but what ever it is, I am embracing it with open arms…

Jules or as she’s called on bodyspace.com, (JuloftheNile) is a super-spirited mother of 3 and devoted inspiration. She thinks she’s inspired by others, but there are so many people who are inspired by her. Julie isn’t the typical weight loss/weight gain inspiration. There seems to be something much deeper and much more meaningful. She keeps a journal style blog she writes in virtually everyday. After reading a few passages you quickly grab hold of her lifestyle. She has ups and downs like all of us, but she seems to maintain such positivity.
When asked how she got started in weight training her reply was, “I was gaining weight and my coffee and sugar diet wasn’t cutting it!!” I thought that kind of sensible humor was so delightful.
When asked why do you love weight training she replied, “The progress, the feeling of setting goals and meeting them…all those things are amazing.” It sounds cliche’ but setting goals is so important in our lives. Yet it’s the biggest thing most people struggle with. One look at Julie’s bodyspace progress pics and you will see some serious goal setting achievements. I’m sure Julie makes mistakes like most of us and often gets side tracked with goal setting, but I’d venture to say she’s a results-driven kind of person. We can definitely all gain inspiration from that.
Q 1: What is the biggest benefit weight-training has had in your life?
A 1: You know, I have spent my whole life not being happy with my body – which I think most women and some men can relate to. This sport has helped me to understand that I can change that. I don’t have to be held hostage by the unhappiness of my body image.
Q 2: What has been your biggest obstacle in your life, in the gym, or elsewhere?
A 2: I think I am my own biggest obstacle! I get impatient when I don’t see results and that causes stress and that causes a trip to the peanut butter jar!!! But there are others too….like the evil scale…anyone who owns one should put it in the trunk of their car for two months and just get a sense of their progress by how their pants fit….and sometimes the mirror…that thing is a simply a reflection of what you think others perceive you as….it is not reality because you are the interpreter (btw, I read that somewhere, not sure where though, but I liked it.)
Q 3: You blog on almost a daily basis. (much like myself) What makes blogging so important to you?
A 3: For me, writing my thoughts is helpful…one bodyspacer asked me if I just wrote whatever random thought was on my mind and my answer was ….yup….pretty much!! It is a great way for me to stay connected to my bodyspace friends….especially “The Circle.” I am privileged to be part of this amazing group of supportive friends on bodyspace. They are the ones that keep me going, keep my motivation high and remind me what things are truly important. Wow, I can’t even tell you how amazing and blessed I feel to know that these people faithfully check up on me daily!
Q 4: In the hectic lives we all live it’s very difficult to make time for the gym. How could you encourage people to make time for the gym who say “they’re too busy?”
A 4: I really feel for people that say that. I said the same things. The fact is, until a person is ready to make that decision, there will always be something more important to do. For me what worked was starting off slow…a great friend used to get me up each morning (I mean she literally dragged me out of bed some days) to walk. From there, we started going to the gym and now over a year later….I crave my time with the weights! (Make a decision to make a small change and over time that change will make a big impact!!)
Q 5: Will you ever consider entering a fitness competition?
A 5: I have tried a natural figure competition and will try another once I have developed my muscles a bit more…right now I just want to feel good in my jeans!
Q 6: For those who don’t know, would you mind sharing your June 1st goal, and why it’s so important to you?
A 6: Well, to those who know me… I am very goal-driven and ultra competitive…I can make a competition out of ANYTHING… I noticed there were several bodyspacers doing personal challenges and thought why not. So, I started a bet with another and now I just have to win!! (because I will…)
Q 7: I, like most people have a “cheat day” once a week in which I eat out and have whatever meal I want (often times pizza and salad). How do you feel about cheat days? Do you have one? What’s your “cheat meal?”
A 7: My jury is hung on this one. I think cheat meals should be called “earn meals” because when you eat clean for 6 days and work out hard you have earned the right to indulge. Yet, I am the type of person that has a wee bit of a problem ending the “earn” meal. If I start, that meal can last for days!! LOL! But when I do have that meal it usually involves A LOT of peanut butter!!
Q 8: You mention goal setting and meeting goals as your reason for loving weight-training. How does setting and meeting goals for weight-training help with setting and meeting goals in other areas of your life?
A 8: You know, actually setting and meeting goals in my field of work, helped me with my weight-training. I believe if you can make a small change in your life (for me it was getting up at 5 am to work out –instead of sleeping in until 7) and keep that consistent, that over time the small differences will amount to a great change.
Q 9: What defines you as a person?
A 9: Absolutely, without a doubt my faith in God.
Q 10: What does the future have in store for Jules?
A 10: First, winning my June 1st challenge (heh-heh), and then meeting all my friends who have deeply inspired me from the Circle this summer! And I hope some extra muscle!!! Long term – maybe become a pt and help moms who are trying to transform their bodies…will have to see on that one!

Collette (simply using her first name) is a 21 year old former track star, U.S. National Olympic Weight Lifter and one of the biggest inspirations to all young women. One look at Collette and you’ll see a hard-bodied sculpture with the look of the girl next door, and even the look of a future Hollywood Actress. She has the twinkle in her eye that compares her to the ultra-positive actress Jennifer Love Hewitt. I’m not sure if that’s by coincidence or by design, but whatever it is, Collette has definitely got it!
Collette intrigued me with her seemingly soft spoken demeanor and results driven charisma. She seems to be a true champion of confidence. And that confidence factor is what plagues over 60% of young women today. Many young women aspire to have the lean chiseled body type of Collette, but go about achieving it through binge dieting, crash dieting, diet pills, anorexia, bulimia, and other tragic conquests. I my self have seen the personal effects bulimia and anorexia does to young women. My soon to be sister-in-law has admitted to bulimia and my girlfriends’ child hood best friend is a 60 pound 21 year old bulimic. There’s a lot of psychological and post-traumatic issues that contribute to these types of extremities but looking at Collette gives me insight as to how young women can achieve the “Hollywood Body,” so many girls desperately die for.
Collette says, “I love weight lifting and working out because of the rush I get. I love the confidence it gives me. It clears my mind and makes me a better, happier person. It also gives me lots of energy!” I find that to be so inspiring. I’ve never heard someone, especially someone so young correlate happiness with working out. I think if young women and even older women and men look at a healthy lifestyle as a route to happiness, it will truly change their lives and keep them dedicated to persevere any obstacle in life. Even outside of the weight room.
Q 1: What initially made you want to become a sports competitor?
A 1: I’ve been extremely active ever since I was a kid. I started competing in sports when I was eight years old and continued to compete throughout grade school, high school, and college. My father was a track & field athlete at Notre Dame. You could say the competitive drive runs in my genes
Q 2: Many young children and teens have disabilities or are told, “They’re not good enough to make the team.” How would you encourage them to keep striving towards their goal?
A 2: Anyone who puts someone else down is usually doing it as a cover-up for their own insecurities. Confidence and love for yourself comes from within yourself as well as from your family and close ties around you. Surround yourself with supporters! It’s especially difficult during the pre-teen and teenage years when it’s easy to think that what others think about you is the only thing that matters. Don’t give into that mentality – it’s beneath you! Smile and walk with your head high. Fake it till you make it baby!
Q 3: You have over 14,000 fans on bodyspace.com alone with at least 1,000 new hits/week. Many of them consider you some what of a sex symbol. How does that make you feel and do you embrace it?
A 3: I embrace my sexuality. It’s a part of who I am. I have always exuded sexuality and I will never apologize for that. It’s a beautiful thing.
Q 4: What words of encouragement can you offer young women who take extreme measures to lose weight?
A 4: It is not worth it! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be safe and love yourself! If you are having difficulties, talk to someone or write your feelings down. Do not be ashamed or embarrassed. Get outside, compete in sports, spend time with your family, read, write, draw – whatever you need to do – fulfill that creative outlet. Do whatever it is that makes you happy because that is what matters! I have found that having people who love and support you in your life is a necessity.
Q 5: Where have you gained the greatest inspiration to keep you so motivated in life?
A 5: My mom and dad have definitely been huge inspirations to me. My mom is my best friend – she is such an inspiration. She owns her own business and is very independent and loving. She has shown me that women can do anything. I can always hear her singing in a joking voice to my father who eats it up: “I can do anything you can do better.” She kicks butt and I’ve learned from the best! My father is also a best friend and a confidante. In addition, he has also acted as a coach and my workout buddy when I was competing in track & field. I have been very fortunate to have such great mentors who are smart, loving, supportive, and give great guidance.
Q 6: Do you feel the media is to blame for young women’s physical insecurities?
A 6: I would not say blame, but I would say media intake is correlated with insecurities in young women. There are unhealthy ideals portrayed everywhere. The more young women see these unhealthy ideals portrayed, the more likely they are to want to be like that. I think this is especially present in celebrity media. Celebrity is equated with happiness, fame, and fortune and people look up to that whether the celebrity likes it or not. If those celebrities are waifs, what kind of message is that sending? I saw a t-shirt that said “Rehab is the new black.” I think that kind of sums up what our media has made of these starlets. I’ve experienced it firsthand. Agents always tell me to lose weight or my face is too rounded or my butt is too big. SAYS WHO?! I happen to like that I have a big butt! You want to know why? Because it’s strong! Because if I weighed 90 lbs, I sure as heck would not be able to squat almost twice my bodyweight! I think that is far more impressive than fitting into a size 0, don’t you?!
Q 7: What gives you the drive to hit the gym on days you don’t feel like going?
A 7: When I don’t feel like going to the gym, I’ll think about how good it is going to feel afterwards. If I have a workout planned and I don’t do it – I feel guilty! I hate that feeling! If I need some extra inspiration, I’ll think about some great workouts I’ve had in the past or listen to some music to get me going.
Q 8: What music pumps you up for a good workout?
A 8: I love techno. What can I say, I’m from New Jersey!
Q 9: What words of inspiration can you give young women to chase their dreams as you have?
A 9: Do what makes you happy! You are always going to be faced with obstacles, but keep your eye on the prize. Those obstacles are going to make you stronger. You may not see it at the time, but have faith in that goal and in yourself and keep on trucking!
Q 10: What’s in the future plans of Collette?
A 10: I graduate from college this year! Then next year, I plan to attend graduate school to earn my master of fine arts in motion picture producing followed by a career in the film industry. While my goals are to run the show behind the camera, I do have a passion for being in front of it as well. We’ll see what life has in store for me Whatever it is, I’m going to approach it with a positive attitude and have fun with it!

The other day I came across a thoroughbred race horse breeder by the name of Linda Parnes. Now for many people thinking of a female horse breeder, that’d probably envision a female version of Bubba; the overtly large slob who chews tobacco and keeps a faithful piece of straw in his mouth. That’s far from the reality of Linda Parnes. Despite the fact that she spends her profession breeding thoroughbred horses, she herself seems to be a thoroughbred.
Linda is 35 and shows no signs of aging. There seems to be some sort of fountain of youth. And I think we all need the secret. It would make this world a much more beautiful place. On the subject of motivation, Linda says she keeps motivated by, “Searching for inner peace. Eating very clean, getting enough sleep, and drive.” Inner peace? I think that’s a pretty big piece of her secret fountain of youth. Many people both new and old to the fitness world don’t realize how important inner peace is and how essential it is to develop. Many people approach working out just for its physical benefits. I’d venture to guess that the lack of inner peace and its search is what stops a lot of people from working out and achieving their goals. You have to have the complete package when getting involved in a workout plan; because working out is more than just about “a look,” it’s about a lifestyle.
Linda ranks in the top 100 most influential people on bodyspace.com and consistently lends her help to those on the message boards. I’d like to thank Linda for the inspiration she’s given me and the other 150,000 bodyspace.com members. Let’s get this interview going:
Q 1: At what age did you begin a serious workout/healthy eating lifestyle?
A 1: I started riding race horses at 11 years old and I wanted to go pro, so I started to consider eating lean and healthy then. I was in a head on car accident at 21 and had to consider a different career and thats when I changed my goals from only lean eating as a jockey to adding muscle for fitness and figure contests.
Q 2: Do you feel there is a correlation between slowing down the aging process and working out and eating healthy?
A 2: Definitely!!! I have worked outside all of my life. I watched my sun exposure and drank lots of water and coupled with healthy eating. I have to show ID to buy lotto tickets still.
Q 3: Many men and women take diet pills, fat burners, and energy drinks. How do you feel about their effectiveness and end results?
A 3: Well, I didn’t take any for my first contest. I only had 7 weeks to diet down when I was asked to be in the competition, so there really wasnt anytime to explore options. I also knew that I haven’t had a good feeling from them. The caffiene loaded diet pills make me too jittery. But, I wanted to try Lipo 6 for the next competition.
Q 4: In today’s society of 12 hour work days, what advice can you give to people who say they “have no time to workout.”
A 4: That one gets me! Because I own a 140 acre thoroughbred farm and I MAKE TIME! I also have an adopted 2 year old Japanese son. I just leave at lunch, train and come back to work. You have to find what works for you and be consistent. Its not selfish to pursue good health.
Q 5: What has been your biggest benefit from living a healthy lifestyle?
A 5: I am able to compete and I love to compete! But I also feel better at work and I live a very active lifestyle raising thoroughbreds. I use weightlifting as a stress release and take my attitude in the gym with me.
Q 6: For those who are overtly obese, how can you encourage them to begin and maintain a healthy lifestyle?
A 6: Eating is 70% for me! Then a consistent, regular work out schedule that you adhere to. Both diet and exercise have to be consistent. I would also take pictures. There is nothing more powerful than a photograph of yourself for motivation, to keep you on track and to document how far you have come.
Q 7: Many women say after 30, “gravity kicks in” and they can’t seem to lose weight because they think they’re too old. What would you say to middle-aged women about beginning a new workout/dieting plan?
A 7: You really have to want change! I was in a car accident, like I mentioned previously and I was on crutches for 2 years and had 18 surgeries. Having to live inactive killed me. I left the hospital weighing 85 pounds. But, I wanted change and I swam everyday until I could walk again. I think I look better now then ever.
Q 8: What is your favorite bodypart of your body?
A 8: I would definately say my legs. They are easy to train and respond well to very little. I believe it from all the years of riding horses.
Q 9: Many female fans of yours seem to be intrigued by the “youthfulness” of your rear-end. What advice or workout can you give them to build the Linda Parnes bum?
A 9: I rode a lot of racehorses and thats all quads and glutes. In the realistic world, squats, lunges and the revolving stairmaster stairclimber. I love that machine.
Q 10: What defines Linda Parnes and makes her unique?
A 10: I was raised by two Amercian Indian grandparents who also owned a large horse farm. I learned to work very hard at EVERYTHING. I was taught to enjoy life and not just the destination, but the journey. I am very spiritual without being overly religious. I’d rather be outside than inside. I love to work hard. There isn’t anything like the future, than seeing a thoroughbred foal born or a your fitness progress picture. Most importantly, I am at peace in my life and it took a long time to get here.
