The Official Shiva0823 Interview
Who is Shiva Yearwood? Shiva is the embodiment of GREATNESS! I don’t mean that as a joke or euphemism. One look at her lifestyle and you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. She’s a walking motivation. I’m sure if you walked past her, you’d probably develop some sort of inspiration and not even realize where it came from. She just seems to exude energy. She’s a goddess.
Why is Shiva so inspirational? Well to begin, she’s a master pro fitness model with a pro card. Secondly, she’s 40 and looks better than most 20 year olds, thirdly, she seems to have been born and breed living and breathing fitness. On the subject of how she got started weight-training she says, “I have always loved to train; to be healthy and fit, fitness has always been part of my life.”
When asked how do you stay motivated, Shiva says “I enjoy training, it’s a joy therefore motivation is not an issue to me.” It must be nice to be dedicated without need for motivation. Many people don’t share that trait. Getting most people in the gym is often like pulling teeth. They seem to go, so they make excuses and never meet there goals. Shiva’s unbridled dedication to weight-training was such an inspiration to me because there seems to be so much power behind it. I want to get that power, or at least just get a sample.
Here’s a signature quote of hers that might give us all a sample of the all mighty Goddess Shiva, “The smallest change in attitude can transform a life. What tiny attitude adjustment might turn your world around?" Think about how important and true that is? It relates to all areas of life. Some people live life having a bad day everyday. If they would just make a slight attitude adjustment their lives would be so much easier. Think about this quote as you take on your day.
Q 1: What gave you the courage to enter your first fitness competition?
A 1: It was time to do something challenging, I pushed myself out of my comfort zone. I am very goal oriented. I set a goal and go for it. It gives life direction. I also find that when you get out of your comfort zone, it makes you stronger…
Q 2: How do you stay in such great shape at the age of 40?
A 2: Other than training, may I say:”nutrition? I think we all know in this forum what a major role nutrition plays. I am extrmemly meticulous, and consistent with my food intake. Food to me is fuel to the body and that’s that!!! I rarely have cheat days!!! I rarely crave anything.
Q 3: When dealing with bad days in and out of the gym, what helps maintain your positivity?
A 3: there are no bad days for me, just challenging days. I have learnt that it will pass, all things, good or bad. Remember? “The smallest change in attitude can transform a life”. I adjust my attitude accordingly on a daily basis to fit my needs.
Q 4: What’s your favorite “cheat food?”
A 4: Bigmac / McDonalds
It tastes so good but it took me a while to digest the burger…LOL I wonder why??
Q 5: You have quite a lot of “sexy poses” on your profile. What does sexy mean to you, and does sexy have an age limit?
A 5: Sexy is what u exude. You either have it or u don’t! There is an age appropriateness and yes there is an age limit that needs to be respected.
Q 6: Do you ever see yourself getting tired of weight-training?
A 6: No, I don’t see how. Training has become a necessity and is crucial to my well being. Mentally, emotionally and physically. Not to train is not an option.
Q 7: How far will you take your fitness competition career?
A 7: I have learned to take it one competition at a time. When I project way far ahead, I tend to loose perspective. So, take it slow, one show at a time. One trophy at a time!!! LOL
Q 8: Do you think there’s ever an excuse to not have time for the gym?
A 8: Ok, you hit on very good subject. Some call it “excuses”, I simply call it “poor time management”. I manage my time exactly the same way I manage my money. It’s invested properly and accordingly. I don’t have time nor money to waste.
Q 9: What is the biggest benefit you receive from weight-training and living a healthy lifestyle?
A 9: The biggest benefit is watching my children being involved into sports. I have an 11 year old son and a 5 year old daughter. Both of them are gifted athletes, like their father (never mind me). I am looking forward to see what sports they will excel in.
Q 10: What’s in the future for Shiva?
A 10: I am getting older, and I plan on going about very graciously. It’s been an amazing ride thus far…
I don’t know what tomorrow holds, but what ever it is, I am embracing it with open arms…
