Overtraining

Friday, September 28th, 2007

A couple of weeks ago I was advised by a friend of mine who is a top notch amateur bodybuilder that he felt I was over training my arms. With the justification he provided for this theory I took his principles for arm training and applied them. The routine is simple, 2 warm up sets, then a total of 10 working sets. I’ve been doing this for the past 3 weeks now and my arms have not only gained half an inch in size but a more solid than ever. This routine is difficult for me because I finish it fairly quick and don’t feel like I have worked enough, but more isn’t always better and you have to stay mindfull of that especially with your body.

New Chest routine

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

Last night I read a new chest routine and decided to give it a try. It was from a credible source and its intended for those trying to gain mass and strength. I did this routine today and have a pump in my chest like I haven’t felt in a few months, now im not sure if its the routine that caused this pump or the fact that I had to squeeze my workout into a 45 minute window today but regardless I feel jacked in my chest right now. The workout:

Incline BB - 195 x 8, 225 x 8         Flat DB - 100 x 8, 110 x 8       Inc. DB Fly - 60 x 8, 70 x 8            Flat BB - 250 x 8, 275 x 8         Cable Cross - 2 sets 15 reps

In addition the routine also incorporated some tricep training into it, and was as follows:

French Press - 100 x 12, 115 x 12     Skull Crushers - 135 x 8, 155 x 8      Singlereverse grip pushdowns - 2 sets 15 reps

Back destroyed me today

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

Today was a great workout but I am feeling it now. Its my weekend to work so Im pulling 7p - 7a all weekend with an hour drive each way, so I only slept 4 hours before getting up to be sure I could get my workout in. By the time I got to the gym I was jacked absolutely ready to beat myself to all hell and I did. The workout was as follows: Deadlifts - 135 x 5, 225 x 5, 315 x 5, 405 x 5, 455 x 3, 475 x 2  BB Rows - 185 x 10, 225 x 10, 315 x 10, 365 x 6 Wide Lat pulls ss Close Lat Pulls 150 x 15, 170 x 12, 190 x 10, 210 x 8  One Arm DB Rows 100 x 10 x 3…. I didn’t train lower back due to working hamstrings 2 days ago and doing a bruttle stiff leg deadlift set. By the time I ate and showered I was ready to go back to bed but instead Im at work and its gonna be a long ass night.

Arms

Friday, September 21st, 2007

Im having a difficult time sustaining a quality pump in my bi’s and tri’s currently. I’ll feel it really good while training them but as soon as I move to the opposite part I loose the pump in the part just trained. Its getting really frustrating. Im training to put size on now so Im working in the low rep range 8 -2 reps. I recently read a article from Tony "X man" Freeman and he said that while bulking he actually started doing more reps in the range of 20 - 25 reps. If anyone who reads this has tried something like this let me know how it effected you. I desperately need to put about an inch and half on my arms for comps next year.

Deadlifting…

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Its been over 6 months since ive last deadlifted. Going into summer and leaning season, I stopped this incredible mass building excercise for the first time since I began deadlifting regularly. My best ever with out wraps is 565 and I have successfully done 605 with wraps. So you can imagine when I stepped back onto the platform this week I expected to work up to 495 or better for 2 reps. WRONG…. 455 kicked my ass for 2 reps, and my back and traps are still throbbing in that incredible sensation. I love it fore I know within the month I will be pulling around 550 again and by the end of December I wanna pull 605 wrapless. I plan to do one power show before dieting for showtime. My goal is to push 425 raw and pull 605. If I do a three way show I plan to squat 655.

Challenges…

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

Back in early July I lost my job, at the time I wasn’t down about it at all… I hated the place and this allowed me a little time off and I was able to really focus on my family and my training. I initially thought I would find new employment right away, which was kinda true. I found a new job right away but it didn’t start for 6 weeks. Now here I am broke as hell, my diet consists of PB sandwhiches and Protein shakes, its all I can afford and im scrownging quarters to buy that. Im miserable all the time, at home, at work, my jeep was once a place I could sit and be happy but no more. In the wake of my fall from grace one thing has been brought into light for me… the gym! When I enter Iam immediately focused on the task at hand, I don’t think about my other life, my life away from my true home. I am at home in the gym, only im not at peace there, im ready to go to ****ing war and destroy whatever weight is thrown my way. For those few hours everyday I love my life… And that is what bodybuilding is all about, LOVE… This is not my hobby, this is not my interest, this is not my sport… ITS MY LOVE and if its not yours, well son, pack up and find something else to do because the guys like me who LOVE our time with the gym don’t want you in our house bringing the mood down…
