2 Weeks off…

July 20, 2009

I’m not sure if this is the wisest thing to do, but I’m taking this week and next week off from weight lifting.  Not by choice, Im going to the beach for a vacation with a few buds and gals from College which we planned during our spring break 09.  Not only that, Im helping my school with a fun in the sun program for incoming freshmen the following week.  Another thing I’m looking foward to when I get back is to start taking Muscle Milk.  I’ve been a skeptic for so long about it, but get this, my trainer actually recommended it to me.  And he is just about as big of a skeptic as I am when it comes to supplements since we both like doing things the natural way. So I bought like a months worth of the pre-made shakes in the carton so, I’ll see how well it works out in August to see if I keep taking them in September.  Currently, Im taking whey just to keep my weight up since I have been running a lot for this half marathon coming up in October.  Im liking the results of it thus far, I can really tell that Im not losing the muscle it took me so long to put on before I started running, and right now Im holding at about 162.  And I was projected to be at 159 by now, on my way down to 158 by the time the race starts.

Be back in 2 weeks…

Memphis 5k, Hope 5k 7/11/09?, food poisoning, awkward situations…

July 5, 2009

So June was a really busy month with training, being a camp counselor, and preparing for a few 5ks but its better to give an update late than never.  So before the Memphis 5k I was hoping to get my 5k time under 20 minutes.  Mission accomplished, and right on time too.  I ran the Memphis 5k in 00:19:34, (which i think i met some people from off of the site there at the race) so in time when my leg is back to 100% my time will hopefully be just over 19 minutes.  I ran an 8k about a week ago, late June, but lucky for me I started my watch while I was warming up so my time came back at like 00:55:41.  I estimated it was around  30-33 minutes since my pace was a 7 minute mile.

I still have not upped my training/running yet, im trying to wait until the peak of august to do so, to try to maintain my weight.  Right now I am holding at 162.5, and I do not want to go below 158 because it would be so hard for me to build back up to that size.  I find that the whey protein is really helping out with that.  2 scoops in the morning with, bananas, strawberries, a little low fat low sugar (im diabetic) ice cream, pears, peaches, and any other fruit I can get my hands on and throw in my blender, and I’ve got my own homemade V8.

The hope 5k in Cordova is coming up and I hope to be there, I just got food poisoning from wester sizzler so, doing any kind of running or lifting this past week has been miserable on me physically but I did it anyway.  I still feel pretty bad and have not been able to consume much of anything solid, even after getting my stomach pumped so we will just see how it all plays out this week.  If i feel well enough by Wednesday, then i’ll run but if not then i’ll just watch.

As far as plan "get ripped" goes, funny thing happened.  I hadn’t been to Church in like 9 months because of being out of town for school and camp and all.  So I am wearing this shirt thats kind of tight on me, im a pretty skinny guy but this shirt was a medium American Eagle short sleeve collard shirt.  So after Church, the compliments start rolling in on how big i’ve gotten.  I understand that many of them hadn’t seen me in about the full 9 months that I had been gone, but my ex-girlfriends dad (who i see pretty often, he’s the family mechanic, sort of) even came up to me and asked me had i been working out.  Now if thats not awkward, then you guys need to read that line again.  Im used to getting compliments since i sing, act, do theatre, and model.  I know the routine, smile, nod, and say thanks.  For those that don’t know what plan "get ripped" is basically by the time I graduate from college, I plan to have the same or more muscle definition as Justin Gaston.  That leaves me with 3 years, and I think its a pretty logical goal if I could ever gain the size I want in my shoulders, forearms, biceps, triceps, basically my whole arm.
Thats about all for now.

Cleared a 5k…

May 27, 2009

This is my first 5k done since October when i ran my first College 5k.  Took it pretty easy today, finished in 20:38, and I am hoping to bring that down to just around 19 before I increase my mileage.  I’ve gotten off to a pretty late start in training but, I can only progress from here.  My half marathon is in September or October, so I still have plenty of time to build up the miles.

Maybe i should start blogging more…

May 20, 2009

I guess the first step to that would be getting back to the gym so I can having something about fitness to blog about.  Thus i guess i’ll update this thing on whats been going on with my fitness.  I popped my knee out of place, rendering me away from the gym for a few weeks.  Im looking forward to physical therapy to get my leg back into shape for the 9 mile half marathon in Costa Rica coming up this summer.  Of course im still bitc.. i mean complaining about how I lack size in my arms, so if anyone has any suggestion on gaining size in the wrists, forearms, biceps, triceps, and especially the shoulders (which is the weakest point on my arms), please give me the 411 that i have been missing out on for the last 5 years i have been weightlifting.

Its been fun, but i gotta go to work.

Skipping a workout day.

December 16, 2008

I’m sure everyone has had those days where they want to go to the gym but they cannot because something has come up like extra work, shorter than normal lunch break, family emergency.  Mine is picking a relative up from the airport and i really don’t get to work my legs as much since cross country has ended and i am not running 6-10 miles a day, and guess what it’s a leg day.
