Tae Kwon Do
So my son started Tae Kwon Do this past Monday and they allowed him into the tournament today. He did real well and placed 3RD. I am real proud of him and I tell you he inspired me. So I will start this Monday in his class which is all age groups until they get other old farts<joking> like me. I figure since I run my butt off this will be another bit of cardio for me for 1.5 hours 3 times a week. I just can’t wait until I get in a tournament and fight. It looks awesome.

Thats SO awesome!! When I took tae kwon do there was every age group you can think of between white belt and black belt!! You’ll love it!! But it is tough as hell!! lol

I love tough things and fighting as well. However, now that I am older I think I would enjoy the controlled environment.

Tomorrow will be my first day. Wish me luck and a speedy recovery LOL

That sounds terrific! An interest that you and your son can share! How was your first class?

I start this evening. I got my uniform<gi> Maybe mispelled LOL. They barely had my size. It will be awkward at first because I will be the oldest there at 41. But I am still gonna have fun.

Well I made it through day 1 without passing out. However, I thought I was going to die out there. It was pretty darn rough but I had a ball. Needless to say, he had me do the reverse push-up with his help of course. Overall I am very happy with the 1st day.

I’m not as sore today as I thought I would be. My right elbow is hurting as my tendonitis flared up. Other than that I feel great and am ready for Day 2 tomorrow.

I used to practice martial arts for a few years, it’s great cardio and also a confidence builder. And also you will start sizing people up everywhere you go.

I really enjoy the part of it being a great cardio workout. The treadmill and track get boring.

I admire your initiative in trying something new! That’s cool! It’s funny how inspiration is contagious. Best of luck with your goals!

Thank you. My body hurts but it is well worth it

All I can say is WOW about Day 2. It was a great 1 hour workout of pure cardio with kicks and punches. I am glad I did this and feel great.

YEah that sounds like a plan to me. I would love to do a MArtial art like Brazillian ju jitsu but its so expensive to get started. Id have to make a whole lot of sacrifices. But im sure the overall product would be worth it.

It is costly but is worth every cent in the long run.

I signed my son up years ago and found myself sitting on the bench with the other parents, just "sitting", so I went up to the coach and asked:do those suits come in my size? Can an oldie like me join? the next week, I was in!! Had fun too! We’ve earned a few belts together and the best part about it, ..you guessed it…spending time together!!
enjoy

Wow, congrats to your son!! And Tae Kwon Do sounds awesome - what great bonding time for you two, as well!!

We are enjoying this together. Today was a new day and I was rather sore but made it through. I am hoping to shed some weight to make it easier on my old knees.

Started to learn Forms yesterday and had a good worout. Once I get past the initial soreness I will go back to the weights. Probably tomorrow.

I finally made it back into the gym to lift weights today. My entire body especially my knees were sore for days but are back to normal today. Feeling great!!!

cool deal on the MA….my wife was an instructor for about 11 years with the Inosanto Academy. She loved the arts…multi-disciplined stuff, jeet kun do, jui jitsu, muay thai, philipino kali eskrima, indonesian silat and others….great training and will teach your son respect, humility and let you spend time together…nice

The time together is definately fun. However, the last 4 days my knees have been killing me. I need to definately loose at least 40 pounds if I am to continue this.
March 30, 2008 at 10:27 am
keep at it man….the knee pain will subside as you get used to the training…its just kike anything else…new movements create new sorenesses

I sure hope your right. I already had knee surgery so I am watching them closely. However, it won’t take away from what I put into it.
March 31, 2008 at 6:40 pm
It is amazing how I am sore until I stretch and then I feel no pain at all during the grueling session. Then about 1 hour later my knees kill me.

Hopefully after a while the pain will subside. I always went to my chiropractor for a session after our muay thai class as my feet were messed up. The instructor made us jump rope while barefoot and it screwed up my feet. Perhaps a good chiro may help your knees. Anyway, i hope you do well in competitions and that your son enjoys it too! cheers!
