I have made a slight change in my competition schedule for this year. Originally I had planned on competing in 2 NPC Figure competitions. However, I have decided that I want to concentrate solely on my goal for getting involved in the fitness industry, and that is becoming a fitness model. In all honesty, Figure is not where my heart is and not something that I want to pursue in the long run. Once you get to the national and pro level, you are required to have a very large amount of muscle, and I feel that it leans a little too close to bodybuilding. I have a huge amount of respect for the woman who do compete in Figure, and there are many beautiful woman who compete in this category. This is a personal decision based on what I want my body to look like, and I don’t feel like I want to take my body to the level that is needed for Figure. I might have done okay doing a few small shows in Arkansas, but in all honesty I don’t see the point in pushing my body towards something that I don’t intend to pursue in the future.
As for this year, I am still planning on competing in the Fitness America Competition held in Atlanta in September. I will probably compete in both the Fitness Model category and the Bikini Model category. I am also looking for another contest earlier in the summer that might be a possibility. There is one in August in Dallas that I might try to do as well.
My training and diet will not change. If anything it will actually need to become stricter because most competitors have an "off-season" where they tend to put on a little extra weight in order to bulk up. Fitness models are required to stay pretty close to top-notch shape year round because you never know when an opportunity might pop up. After my last competition this year, I am planning on taking some time off to try to put on a little muscle and really work on some areas of my body that I want to improve. I am very confident that early next spring I will come into the year exactly how I want to be physically and mentally. I plan on competing as much as I can next year in competitions all over the country. Hopefully this will lead to some great opportunities for me.
I have two goals for 2008: The first goal is to win the "World’s Fittest Model" contest held every year at the Olympia. This is a very elite contest and is very hard to get accepted to enter. My second goal is to featured in Oxygen Magazine, which is the best (and my favorite!) womens fitness magazine on the planet. Yup, I’m setting the stakes high for 2008!
So for now, I will continue my training and getting ready for my next contest, whenever that will be. I also have a couple of photo shoots lined up for the next couple of months that I am very excited about. I plan on introducing my website hopefully sometime in June, and that is the first step in getting myself out there in the fitness world.
Thanks to everyone for your continued support and words of encouragement!

I am four weeks away from my first NPC Figure Comp. So far I feel pretty good about it, even though I now I am coming in way too small (muscle-wise) to really roll with the big boys. I think I will do okay since it is a small local show. Mainly I am doing it to get a feel for the Figure event. I did a Fitness Model competition about a month ago and loved it. Right now I’m torn between which event I really want to pursue. In all reality, I want to make a career out of fitness modeling. Even though NPC Figure is the pinnacle for the industry, I really don’t want to get as big as the pro’s do. I am going to give it a shot though. In a few weeks I am doing some professional pictures that I am very excited about. Once I have those I hope to get my website published and start marketing myself to do some fitness modeling.
Bodywise, I feel like I am making decent progress. My legs have finally got more muscle tone and leaned out some. Still working on my hamstrings and still trying to get that 6-pack!! I’ll try to take some pictures soon of my progress.

As of this weekend I am 15 weeks out from my first Figure Competition on June 2nd. I have been doing legs 3x per week and I hate it! The good news is I have definitely seen some improvements in my quads. The bad news is my glutes still need a lot of work. I am really going to have to target that area. Since this is my first year to compete–I don’t know how everything is going to turn out. I’m guessing that I’m not going to need a really long “cutting” phase but I have stayed pretty lean. Plus I have not ran in 2 months and that really leans me out. I still need to add some more muscle to my upper body and get some more roundness to my shoulders. My abs have gotten better but still need work. And my glutes need a major overhaul. Time to get with it.
I have decided to do a competition on April 14th in Norman, OK. It is a FAS-NET (Fitness and Sports Network) show and I’m doing the Fitness Model category only. I hear it is a good show and it will be a great starter for me.
Next week is the Arnold and I’m so excited to go see all the competitors I look up to!! Most especially Nancy Georges–who will be competing. Nancy has made a great impact on a lot of girls on this forum including me–she is always putting her advice and ideas in and we appreciate it so much! Good luck Nancy!!!
I will keep working on building muscle and improving my abs and glutes. More updates in a few weeks!

I just found out that my first contest has been pushed back until July. So, I am going to compete in the Lone Star Classic in Plano, TX on June 2. I am 18 weeks out. I would like to start cutting right around 12 weeks so that I have some more time to build more muscle, but we’ll see what my coach says.
This weekend I am attending Katie Uter’s Fitness Explosion Camp in New Orleans, LA. I’m very excited about it, Katie has won several titles in Fitness and Bikini and I know she will have a lot of great information to share. I am not looking forward to the 10 hour car drive but it will be worth it!
My husband and I are also attending the Arnold Classic in March. We will watch the figure competitions as well as visit the Expo, which I hear is awesome. This will be my first show to attend, and what better one could I ask for?
For the past 1½ weeks I have been working out legs 3x a week. It has been tough, but I think I’m getting some results. I have also started incorporating abs in between sets. I hope that I will see some good results over the next few weeks in that area as well. My legs need work and so do my abs, my upper body I think is doing okay. I’m having issues with my lower abdomen–I have been following a clean diet but yet I still have a big pooch in my lower belly. It’s not fat–it’s hard and my skin is tight, but it almost seems like I have an enlarged abdomen or uterus or something! My husband thinks I’m crazy (and maybe I am) but it is very frustrating. I hope that gets better. That is all for now–I will post more pics and information in a couple of weeks.

First Figure Competition - May 2007
Last night I took my first progress pictures. Okay, I know they are pretty lame. I realized from this little “posing” session that I really need to practice my poses. It is harder than I thought to tighten up your muscles. I’m definitely going to look into attending a workshop or at least watching a DVD on Figure Posing. My personal thoughts on my body are that my arms are developing pretty nicely. I definitely need work on my legs and glutes. I also need to work on my abs. My stomach is pretty flat, but I want a visible six-pack. I have received some great feedback from other members regarding my body/diet/ and training. Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed. Because of the feedback I’ve received, next week I’m going to mix up my training routine. I’m going to concentrate on legs 3 days per week and stick with once a week for each upper body part instead of twice a week. I’m also going to start incorporating abs every day. I really haven’t done abs that much–and I need to make it a priority. My diet will remain the same, I’m consuming about 1800 calories, 180 g. protein, and 120-140 g. carbs. My protein souces include mostly tuna, chicken, and turkey. My carb sources include rice, broccoli, and oatmeal. See how this works out for a week and I will post more pictures next week. Maybe next week I will have some better poses. I also need to remember NOT to wear my hair curly for pictures. It looks good when I have regular clothes on, but in little clothing it looks huge on my small frame! Kind of 1980’s prom hair or something. Okay, that’s just a personal thing. Not really relevant to my body but oh well. More next week!
