As of right now I have a personal training certification from AFAA and I would like to get ACE and ACSM but I also want to get a degree. Someday it is my dream to own my own fitness center but that is in the future. There are 3 degrees I have considered.

1. Nutrition-Nutrition is such an important part in losing weight and being healthy. If you have an awesome program but don’t know how to eat you aren’t going to get anywhere. Also it would save you the hassle of sending them to a nutritionist. I think you can be a personal trainer without a degree but you can’t be a nutritionist without one. Also with how fat America is getting I would imagion this will be a real indemand job.

2. Exercise Physiology-Everyone I talk to says this is the degree to get. I keep hearing all the best personal trainers have a degree in this. I think it would help a ton especially after listening to people talk. I feel like I don’t know as much as i should. Even a minor in this would help greatly I think.

3. Business-This would be great for it i want to own my own gym some day plus it is very marketable if personal training falls though. Also if I wanted to be the manager at a fitness center as well as a personal trainer. I could always get this degree second. I already will have an associates degree from the Community College of the Air Force in hotel, fitness and restaurant management. That may or may not hold any weight and it could possibly help towards a batchlors depending on the college.

I was thinking maybe I could major in nutrition and minor in exercise physiology or maybe even double major.

I have a lot of reasearch to do yet.

Any inputs would be great

I have been taking BSN Syntha-6 and TrueMass for just 3 days now and I have already got comments about losing weight. It looks like the problem was just not getting enough calories. My body seems to be healing better also and the fat i have on my stomach is soft now and not hard.

I’m still having problems with my back. Maybe I can get a second opinion on this but I think I need physical therapy. 2 years ago I pulled my hip out of place doing deadlifts. When i went to the clinic(military) they said I pulled a muscle. After 4 months my back was still hurting. I went off base to a chiropractor or whatever and he told me my hip was out of place. He did his thing and my back felt better in a week but ever since then on just my left side, my lower back gets real tight from something as simple as lifting a box or running. I have been doing everything I can to stretch it. I have improved my flexability a lot but I just have a hard time stretching that one side. I did deadlifts today but stayed real light. I only went up to 205 but even that had just that one side so pumped up and hardly nothing on the other side. It is hindering my progress so bad and I dont know what to do about it. Maybe I should just go off base to see someone because i dont trust military doctors. What does everyone else think?

Hey everyone. I posted in the forum and didn’t get much response so i figured i would try this out. I will post what i had in the forum.

Alright well ever since i have started lifting i have never been cut. It has never really bothered me because i have never had the desire to have a 6 pack. I have always had a good diet but never did a whole lot of cardio. I though I messed up my metabolism in high school between wrestling and depression. Now though, with my enlistment coming to its end i want to start my career as a personal trainer(and get a degree in nutrition in the process). I know that looking the part is one of the biggest things about being a personal trainer and since i have been getting comments about my "belly" for the past year i know it will be an issue. I’m wondering if its my thyroid because a few different people have mentioned it. I have tried a few different things and im getting no where with my fat. For a couple months before I deployed my I lifted heavy weight low reps 6 days a week and did either cross trainer, running or swimming 5 days a week. My diet went something like this.(Because of my job i didn’t have time to have a bunch of small meals)
Breakfest:
3 eggs whites
a scoop of oat meal
glass of orange juice

Lunch:
2 grilled turkey on wheat bread with 1 piece of cheese.
some rice on days they had it.

After work:
Salad with a chicken breast and light ranch
or 2 tuna sandwitches

After workout:
Salad with 2 chicken breats and light ranch.
Sometimes a tuna sandwitch

Now im doing heavy weights 6 or 7 days a week and my diet looks something like this.(I just started working nights so we have supper then midnight meal.

When i wake up i have chromium picolinate and vitamin c

Breakfest:
Baked fish(2-3 pieces) or grilled chicken breast(2).
Rice or pasta(once a week)
veggies

Snack:
fruit
same as above just a smaller amount like 1 piece of fish or chicken

Snack:
Protein shake(Optimum 100% Whey)

Midnight meal(After workout):
3 fried eggs on wheat bread
1 scoop of Cellmass
Protein shake(Optimum 100% Whey)

Snack:
Protein shake(Optimum 100% Whey)

Bed.

Recently I have started doing cardio twice a day. When i wake up i do 25 minutes on the cross trainer with my heart rated around 160 and after my shift i do intervels on the cross trainer(sprint for 10 seconds stride for 20) for about 12 minutes or sprints in the sand(2 volleyball courts with real soft sand).

I still have my damn belly…I mean I don’t really know what else to do. How long does it take to see results? There are people that don’t do any cardio and lift the same way I do and are totally ripped. I know my diet isn’t perfect but its decent at worst. I mean it should be good enough to have a flat stomach with no abs showing…
Any opinions or advice would be great because I might have to find a different career if I can get rid of this fat.
Thanks

Someone mentioned in the forum that maybe I’m starving myself by lifting heavy that much and not eating a whole lot. Anyone else agree with this?

Thanks again everyone.
