Ok,
so gas is expensive as heck! I just filled my wife’s SUV. $65! Are you serious. At that point I decided that I was going to walk everywhere I went. I figured that this town is too small for me to do otherwise. When I lived in Anchorage, AK, (pop. 260,000) I biked everywhere, there are so many bike trails there that it would be dumb not to take advantage of some cardio. Here (12,000) , I might as well just walk.
At first it sucked. Who wants to put their car up and walk? But after a while, I realized that this was the reason why our grandparents and their parents were in such good shape. Most of the time, they walked. I thought about people in NYC. My family is from there. I thought about all of the people who walk, bus, or bike to work (and to workout). Other than the air, they are in pretty good shape also. Have some of us (including myself) become so lazy that we don’t want to go out and smell the fresh air? Some of us drive to workout, why not just walk. Especially now that gas prices are so sky high?

I was searching around on the website and saw that there was a forum. I thought to myself, "Man, I should really try this!" So i did answer one of the topic questions. Later, I look at the same forum, and I have certain people attacking me on my answers. The topic this week is haters. Why do people hate?
I figured out it was because either they feel intimidated or they have low self esteem. Case-in-point, all that was asked was how do you become a fitness trainer. I answered the question thinking I could provide some sort of insight. Other people did the same. We all were attacked with, "poor choice on certifications," or, "look up competence…" How stupid is that. I don’t expect sugar coating, but I would like some consideration for people who try new things. We all all in this together, bodybuilding is still a taboo sport that carries a lot of stereotypes. And we can all learn things from each other, even if you are a weight training instructor at a "big time university". There is no need to get down on other people. People say stupid things sometimes, it happens (not in this case). Keep things in perspective!!!
I am not going to be mad at these people, just feel bad for them and hope that they feel better about themselves today at my expense.

I admit, I am a little vain. I was checking myself out in the mirror at the gym. In the bathroom of course. I cannot stand it when people are talking to you, but their eyeballs are looking at their muscles. I noticed that I look way better today than I did during competition. Like I said before, I was .3 overweight, preventing me from being light-heavyweight. I had dieted down so much, that I took 3rd. I think the morning show mandatories took me down in the standings, oh well. That night, after eating 5 cookies, a gallon of water, and sushi, I noticed that I was considerably bigger (more full). Then, the more the hours passed, the better I looked. Darn. I have decided that from now on, I will be competing at heavyweight. Live and learn!!!!

So, after careful consideration, I decided to do a competition. Well, that competition was last Friday. Long story short, I ended up getting 3rd in the heavyweight class. Which was good considering I wanted to be in light heavy like last year. Would you believe that i was 3 tenths of a pound overweight? I was so dry in fact, that i couldn’t sweat even if i wanted to. Oh well, what can you do?
This show was very difficult for me. My little girl is about 10 months old. The diet wasn’t difficult, it was spending time away from my daughter while I was on a cardio machine thinking about spending quality time with her. I have to admit, sometimes I cut the cardio short. And, that may have been why I had to move up a division. But that time when I decided to call it quits early and spend time with her, I will never regret. I know that I can win this show and qualify for nationals. But at what cost am I willing to do that?
In short, much props to all of you out there who stay in shape with 2 or more kids. I have 1 and man, what handful. If you feel me, holla.
P.s. my wife is very supportive of me bodybuilding, but i just could not help feeling guilty working out while she is feeding, bathing, and changing.

When you have a kid i guess there is some give and take. I give and the kid takes. Everything I do now is in shifts, and this includes working out. Did not get to go to the gym today because a) i did not wake up in time for my cardio and b) My wife wanted to go for a walk and i had to watch my daughter. Fine, pushups will do for today.
Everything started up also, so i have been busy. Football, school, inservice, conferences and i am still doing the personal training thing. I guess this is a test to see how bad i want to do the show in November.

Ok,Ok, so i was a little late with the blog. A lot has happened. Football has officially started, North Dakota high school that is. What a camp we had, full of heat stroke. 3 full days of 90 degree heat. It was frustrating because the kids were not practicing at all during the summer so 11 of them had some sort of heat exhaustion.
Workouts are not bad, but it is waaay more difficult with a child. Much props to the single parents out there, i don’t know how you do it. I had to divide up my workouts, cardio in the morning, lifting at night. A lot of baby work in the middle. It is all worth it though because she started smiling. I never thought i would turn into a little sap but it happened. I started incorporating chins into my workout. About every other day till my lats (weakpoints) respond. I think I will be way different in this competition. (fuller). 15 weeks to go till compitition, i cannot wait.

Now i have a competition in November T-16 weeks (116) days. I have to get serious now. I weighed myself and now i am at 205. My goal is to be at around 185 but if i get to 190, i will not cry. I am excited for this one, hopefully i will come home with some hardware. And this time, my wife will be there and my new daughter, not that she will care being that she is 5 months old when the competition starts.
I have been keeping busy with becoming a personal trainer. Not that it is hard, just time consuming. I will be working out of Kelle Lease’s gym (heavy metal). she just competed in nat’ls in pittsburg. She will be coming home with more trophies.
Dieting is not bad for me. I don’t eat much junk food anyway. I want to be 185 but have a heavier look to me so I am pounding the weights. I am also doing about an hour of cardio a day. I might have to cut back though, it is about 90 to 100 degrees and i will be standing outside for 4 hours coaching football.
This blog is just a rant but i will be doing this every sunday until competition to keep whoever is interested (0) posted on my progress.

Have not been here for a while. Well, i did have a distraction, if you could call it that. My wife gave birth to a little girl so i took some time off and had some cake. But now, i have a contest in November and possibly in October. So i have 16 or 12 weeks to get back into it, which shouldn’t be too hard. Besides, the break should do me good. I am doing about an hour of cardio and then weights later on in the day. If you are a single mom or dad out there then props to you because this is not easy at all. I try to get my quality sleep in, but that is not an easy task while trying to stay dedicated to diet and training. Well, baby is crying so gotta go!! I’ll write more, I promise. Maybe this will be a famous blog. Ill need a snazzy name, any suggestions??

It seems like everyone, well a good portion of people, want something for nothing. There are a lot of people that invest in supplements that they have no reason investing in. And, there are a lot of people who think that there is a "magic pill." A lot of people look at me and say, "How can I get that big?" or "how can I get that ripped?" Nobody has any problem asking that question. But when it is answer time and I give them the "hard work" answer, they think that I am full of it.
Look, I did work dang hard. There was a lot of advice. There was a lot of trial and error. There was a lot sports in my background. I did not get up one day and decide that I want to take a bunch of supplements and all of a sudden get like I am. It is crazy. I take protein, meal replacements, and sometimes a fat burner for contest, that is as far as I go. I know I might not get a pro card that way, but that is my choice. Even if you are on supplements (no matter what those are) you will have to work your butt off to achieve gains, size, stregnth, etc.
Something for nothing… getting out of hand.
