Gas Prices = Chance for fitness
Ok,
so gas is expensive as heck! I just filled my wife’s SUV. $65! Are you serious. At that point I decided that I was going to walk everywhere I went. I figured that this town is too small for me to do otherwise. When I lived in Anchorage, AK, (pop. 260,000) I biked everywhere, there are so many bike trails there that it would be dumb not to take advantage of some cardio. Here (12,000) , I might as well just walk.
At first it sucked. Who wants to put their car up and walk? But after a while, I realized that this was the reason why our grandparents and their parents were in such good shape. Most of the time, they walked. I thought about people in NYC. My family is from there. I thought about all of the people who walk, bus, or bike to work (and to workout). Other than the air, they are in pretty good shape also. Have some of us (including myself) become so lazy that we don’t want to go out and smell the fresh air? Some of us drive to workout, why not just walk. Especially now that gas prices are so sky high?
