sorry i havent updated in a year

my life has changed so much

I’ll tell the negatives first;

I gained 50 lbs.

Positives:

I have a job that pays well and has great health benefits.

I’m working towards getting gastric bypass surgery.

I got accepted into the Exercise and Wellness program at ASU, I’ll probably start there in a year or two.

I’m still in collge working on my associates in general studies. I have anatomy n physiology and chemistry this semester.

Most exciting of all is I bought my first home, a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom condo in Glendale, AZ

Haven’t Updated In Awhile

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

So for the past 2-3 months I have been gaining and losing the same 3-4 lbs. I’ve decided that I raelly need a fitness coach to help me nutritionally and physically. Someone to come to my apartment twice a week and kick my ass and hold me accountable. Someone to push me harder though my workouts.

Unfortunately with my current income and strict budget I can’t afford this on my own. So I’ve created a website www.vickinicole.com where I am asking people to click thru my AdsByGoogle. All the click thru’s help me make money.

So far I’ve raised $80 thru people clicking on my AdsByGoogle on my website. Google cuts me a check when it reaches $100.

I also put an ad up for a fitness coach. I need someone who can come to my apartment at 5:20 am and I could really only afford $25 a hour. I got a few responses but I chose this guy because of his credentials even though he charges a bit more:

My credentials, where do I begin ? Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Wellness from ASU , South Western USA Overall Body Building Champion, Western Regional Middle Weight Champion and Mr. Arizona 2nd Runner Up. I have been working out/exercising for almost 20 years. Along the way I have read many books and magazines, attended many seminars and I know what works and what does not. I was certified in Sports Nutrition from ISSA and consider nutrition and weight loss my specialty. I don’t really like to do diet’s for clients becuase when people think of diet, they think short term. I like to go grocery shopping with people and show them healthier alternatives to what to what they already eating. I am very flexible with schedules and apointments. But the minimum I would charge would be 40.00 per session and nutrition consulting/help would be free.

I love the fact that he goes grocery shopping with you and the fact that he has the same degree that I am actually studying for; Exercise and Wellness from A.S.U.

Anyway, please click on my google ads and also PLEASE tell me what you think of all the text on my website, I spent a lot of time writing all that. LOL tell me what can change and what you like.

Thanks

Vicki

Should I take steroids? If so what kind?

Friday, July 13th, 2007

Ok I know this is a controversial topic but if you can put aside any moral judgements that would be cool.

So as you may know I went to my first professional fitness/bodybuilding/figure competition a few weeks ago. I’m filming a documentary on my goal to become a Figure competitor.

Well atleast that’s what I thought my goal was before I went to the competition.

While there I felt that the figure women were all too lean and did not have the sort of muscular development that I love to see in competitive body sports.

Where I did see the body type I desire was in the bodybuilding and fitness comeptitors. Fitness is a goal for sure, but I have no dance/gymnastics experience and I have no rhythm. but even thoguh i am 34 years old I think I can get be taught a routine. THIS IS NOT MY POINT.
lol

My point is their body types, the muscle, is is closer to what I am seeking as a goal.

NOW

My friends, family, and cameraman all say that look is not achievable without steroids.

Hmmmm

ok
fine

so should that be a barrier to my goal?

I don’t know, but I do know I want to be informed and have a decent amount of information on it before I decide.

So let’s say I decided, that it’s worth it to do the steroids.

I have asthma and am clinically depressed. I am in remission on the depression but still not sure if there is a specific kind of steroid I should stay away from.

How long would I have to take the steroids to achieve the look I want? For instance do I take them 4 months out from competition? like say starting next March 2008?

Are they all injectibles or are their any pills instead. Me no like needles.

What are some of the immediate side effects?

I know some of the long term side effects, but is that only if you take the steroids long term?

What about the dreaded growing of the large penis looking clitoris that happens to women on steroids? is that with ALL steroids? or only certain kind? Is that only after long term usage or is it possible to occur after 3 months of use?

OBVIOUSLY i have ALOT of questions about this subject, so any help anyone can give me is great.

And if anyone, particularly female, has used steroids before I would really love if you give me some advice.

Thanks

Vicki

NPC Arizona Open tonight

Sunday, July 1st, 2007
so today was the first day of filming on my documentary “plus size model to fitness competitor”
and also the first time I’ve ever been to a bodybuilding/fitness/figure competition
The NPC Arizona Open was held in Chandler, AZ.
I went to cheer on Shanna, a heavy weight bodybuilder I met on myspace.
me and the cute cameraman drove up to chandler in my lil car, lol
it was AMAZING!! so surreal to see this competition live, I’ve been reading about these competitions for over 15 years!! Really really surreal to actually see one .

I wore a wireless mic pinned to my shirt and we had a MEDIA pass so I was able to go backstage and chat with the competitors and judges
I had the only professional camera guy there, although there were several professional photographers and other media, and it was funny cause alot of relatives of the competitors kept asking my camera guy if he would sell them footage
haha i told him that he should start a side career of doing that at these competitions
he said it would be like torture for him, he thought it all looked so unhealthy and degrading, lol, so funny
it IS a really really long show, i mean the prejudging started in the MORNING and we got there at like 5:45 pm and when we left at like 11:30 pm, the competition wasn’t even over, there was more men to be judged, i was too tired, i was like “after the final women’s judging I am OUT OF HERE”

I know the competitors HAD to be tired, hehe , they couldn’t drink water and hadn’t eaten decently and all that, they must’ve been just weak, lol, some looked like they were going to pass out, there eyes were glossing over
not shanna though, she is awesome, amazing energy and personality on that chick!! you’ll see when the documentary is edited, she rocks and she won in the heavy weight division, yaaay, go SHANNA!!

so awesome that he got my reaction to EVERYTHING on video, i am really happy to have this documented and so excited to have this journey documented as well, it will be about a year in the making although in about 6 months we’re going to shop it around to reality TV production companies.

we will be uploading clips of it to youtube and I’ll have it on my bodybuilding.com and vickinicole.com website as well

OMG I am sooo wanting to go watch the USA nationals in Vegas in 4 weeks now, i am addicted.
OMG after the competition I was sooo pumped up, after doing my post interview and after he left, i tried doing some of the poses I saw at the competition, lol, it’s horrible, I have all fat and no muscle but here’s one of the pics of me “trying” to do a double bicep pose, check it out, it’s hilarious.  VickiNicole_June30_2007.jpg

my motivation that is

eh, it just went on a quick vacation when my "dear aunt sally came to visit’ (old saying for getting your period)

i had a nice weekend, went to see Oceans 13, it was a good movie

Yesterday started the week off great, got up 5:20 am and weight trained with intensity; biceps, chest, abs, a lil outer thigh work, for 40 minutes

felt great

I wanted more exercise so I left my math class a hour early so I could fit in 60 minutes of cardio at the fitness center, bad me, I just craved some cardio, burned 570 calories walking at a high incline slowly while watching AGE of LOVE on the tv at the fitness center, lol.

Meals yesterday:

pre workout: oatmeal

post workout: protein fruit smoothie

snack: cottage cheese

snack: apple with a tablespoon of peanut butter

lunch: tri tip salad

snack: orange, 1/4 cup of edamame

dinner: tuna & crackers

snack: cinnamon roll (clearly not on the diet, but it was in the house already from last week and I chowed down, it made me go about 150 calories over my goal daily caloric intake, I’m fine with it)

to bed a lil late was up reading my Oxygen magazine and going over in my head my speech for my COM 225 class tomorrow

woke up at 5:50 am, did 8-min-core workout dvd, just the THIGH and BUNS segments so 16 minutes total, I really only do weight training every other day, but this week I am going to try to do everyday because I feel great and I crave the burn. So I am just going to wake up, figure out what body part needs work and work that bodypart. Today I felt my lower body needed some work.

put on a cute red top, black short sleeve cardigan, black skirt, and red ballet flats and am here at work feeling all healthy and happy.

oh yea I put a new profile pic up since I’ve lost almost 50 pounds, i took the pic on Friday

finding my motivation

Monday, June 11th, 2007

the last week and a half have not been really high points for me
didnt exercise Friday, Saturday or Sunday
this morning I woke to exercise and could not find the intensity within myself, i was really frustrated and on the verge of tears
I got this new workout tape from The Firm that came with my new fanny lifter step from them and tis morning I went to start the tape and it was really fast aerobic cardio sculpt and I just could not pull together the intensity and motivation to complete it, i didnt even get through the warm up before I gave up
then i put in the 8 min core tape which I usually LOVE
I did ABS and ARMS but very half heartedly

I don’t know what my problem is, it’s worrying me, I think for today anyway the problem is partially not getting adequate sleep. I went to sleep around 10:45 but did not sleep the whole night through, i kept waking up , i think cause I took naps all day Sunday so i was not really tired but forced myself to sleep, then this mornign I did not take the ECA stack before working out, I dunno why, just forgot maybe, anyway so i had no energy and no motivation and I was really upset with myself

Plus my right knee hurts, so i stopped the Couch to 5K program till I lose a little more weight I think I might be too big at 236. lbs to be running (??) I don’t know if that is true or not but I do know I keep getting shin splits in my right leg and my right knee hurts alot when I do squats or anything requiring me to bend it

argh!!

then Sunday I didnt make my weight loss goal, I was supposed to be at 236 but I was at 236.6

and I know why too, it’s cause Friday I took myself on a date and went to see "Knocked Up" it was funny, and afterwards I went to Dairy Queen for a banna split
Saturday i weighed 236lbs but saturday is not my weigh in day, Sunday is
anyway Saturday I went to find anther move to see but nothing was good in the theatre so instead I went to get some gourmet ice cream across the streeet from the theatre at a place I had never heard of called Maggie Moos ( http://www.maggiemoos.com/home/index.cfm ).  I had the Cherry Vanilla Vacation (1 scoop vanilla icecream with fresh cherries, brownies and caramel)  in a waffle cup. cherry vanilla vacationOMIGOD!! sooooo good!!

But yea I had ice cream 2 days in a row and who knows how many calories that was, I just know that ice-cream goes straight to my hips and belly. It’s pure fat, it’s the same as eating a chunk of butter.

Also saturday went and spent the day with my grandma, she made dinner, friend chicken wings, squash and broccoli. yummy!!

Sunday got up for weigh in, weighed 236.6, not happy with that, I always make my goal, but thanks to I’m assuming ICE CREAM I didnt make it this week.

Sunday I laid around, I got up for a sec to go to Sprouts for some fruit for the week, and Wal Mart for some water for the week. Went to the computer lab at school for a sec to check on the Paris Hilton, lol, and my email.

today I must say I did weigh in at my goal of 236. lb.

Anyway so I dunno, I hope I find my motivation, I am going to just force myself to workout even if it is half heartedly, it’s better than nothing I guess.

argh!!

My life is sooo great, I dunno why i always get unmotivated and bored when my life is perfect, it’s like I need a challenge or I disintegrate.

Math class tonight.
Need to find my motivation.

Eating Nutritiously while bodybuilding

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

For dietary supplementation I now take:
·         ECA stack (ephedrine, caffeine, aspirin), ( click for more info: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?p=46583811 )
·         calcium,
·         iron (at night, it’s not good to take iron and calcium at the same time)
·         women’s multivitamin,
·         NOW chromium picolinate
·         Digestive Enzymes Plus
·         Fiber supplement

Ever since taking my Healthful Living class this past semester I’ve been trying to follow the USDA guidelines (http://www.mypyramid.gov/guidelines/index.html) for a nutritious healthy diet, that’s why I was curious how a ED programs nutrition plan would differ and if they would consider mine to be lacking in nourishment. Since I started trying to follow the mypyramid guidelines I have consciously added 2 fruits and 2 vegetable servings to my daily diet. That’s not the recommended amount, but it’s better than before when I only ate them sporadically throughout the week.

The thing I like about mypyramid is you can input what you have eaten and it will tell you what your nutrients were and then it will tell you whether you are eating more of less nutrients than recommended.

Today I did a comparison on MyPyramid on what I ate May 24.

I eat far less milk/dairy than is recommended. Most dairy gives me really bad gas and hurts my stomach, even the smallest amount of cheese bothers my stomach but I force myself to eat it on my salad.

I read a study once that said 80% of African Americans stomachs are lactose intolerant, though some studies disagree with that, physical symptoms don’t lie, my entire family can’t eat/drink it, I could do the Lactaid/soymilk thing, but that stuff tastes sooo gross to me. My mom and sister swear you get used to the taste, but I never have.

In an effort to increase my dairy I bought some yogurt the other day, thinking of adding that to my breakfast, and there is a serving of cheese on most of my salads. That’s why I take extra calcium though so that I am not deficient in that nutrient for lack of dairy, the recommended dosage for calcium is 1200 mg, I think, I take that every morning.

My salad dressings have fat in them; I don’t know if they are full of fat, they come with the salads I buy from Trader Joes, lol. I just use it. How much fat is necessary in a diet? I don’t really believe that ADDED fat is necessary UNLESS you are eating FAT FREE, LOW FAT or LIGHT, which I don’t do. I don’t usually count fat grams and know that a lot of crap I eat has fat in it.

I am morbidly obese and MyPyramid gives me this message every time I sign in, lol

The weight and height you entered in your Personal Profile page indicates that you need to consult a healthcare provider about weight loss strategies prior to starting a weight-reduction program. Overweight adults, who need to lose weight, should aim for a slow, steady weight loss by decreasing calorie intake while maintaining an adequate nutrient intake and increasing physical activity, thus improving their Body Mass Index (BMI). People at a healthy weight should strive to maintain their weight, and underweight individuals may need to increase their weight.
My goal is to lose 2lbs. a week without starving myself or over exercising which can be difficult because I am also training to become an athlete (triathlete, and figure/fitness competitor) so I read a lot about nutrition and exercising as it pertains to the sports I am training for and try to implement them into my program as well. It’s difficult to combine those two goals because athletes are notorious for having eating disorders and fitness sports ironically encourage extremely low fat diets particularly 6-10 weeks out from competition time.

An example of my effort to combine these goals is how you may notice I eat a lot of protein in the morning, which is not a random time.  Bodybuilders (and fitness competitors) try to build big quality muscles, so the information I’ve read says to eat a lot of quality protein immediately after weight training. Some eat peanut butter, some eat 6-12 eggs, and some have protein shakes. I weight train in the mornings and want to add more servings of fruit to my diet for the nutrition goal, so for efficiency I combined my fruit goal with my muscle building protein goal and that’s how I get the protein shake after weight training. Last week I added Edamame to my snacks for extra protein, but I might add peanut butter or almonds to my snacks during the day, so that would count as added fat AND protein. Hmm something to consider ……

Ok so as for the grains sometimes my salads from Trader Joes has croutons or crisp bread thingy’s , like the oriental salads have that. I have a different kind of TJ salad every day though, with varying things on/in it, like the meat, cheese and dressing. I usually eat my fruit at snack time; I try to eat 5-6 meals a day. 3 of those are 300 -400 calories, and 3 of those are 200- 300 calories, hopefully not to exceed 1800 calories but some days it’s more and some less.

The past  2 days my calories have been only 1500, I haven’t had time to eat cause I just started school this week. I keep piles of these little tuna luncheable things in my car that have tuna and crackers in them and I eat that before going to class. They are 250 calories. I was eating the chicken and turkey luncheables too but they don’t hold well in a hot car all day like tuna does and they have sooo much sodium in them too.

So my friend took a look at my above menu and suggested I eat more grains, fat, and dairy. I am going to figure out how to add cottage cheese or yogurt to my diet, not sure what I am going to do about the grains, and I am going to add peanut butter to my apple snack for added fat but I am leery of adding fat unless it’s olive oil or something healthy, because cholesterol and saturated fat is not good at all. I think there is quite adequate fat in my meal preparations. Thinking maybe I will bring the yogurt or cottage cheese to work and have it as a 3rd morning meal cause I do get hungry sometimes mid morning before my 10am snack break time. Just gotta find something that doesn’t have too much sugar, as again diabetes is a concern for me since I have a family history of it on both sides of my family.

I find it so difficult to balance healthy meals with my desire to lose weight and get my BMI in a healthy range. I know that if I restrict foods, my body will crave the nutrients they provide and I will crave it and that’s why I get bad sugar cravings because I am not controlling my insulin spikes properly even though I am trying hard to do so.

scared

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

So I just rearranged my ENTIRE fall class schedule around this 1 swimming class even though it’s only .5 credits (1/2 a credit)

why?
because next May I want to do this Sprint Triathlon called The Tempe International Triathlon, registration should open this summer
http://www.tucsonracing.com/TATinf.htm

the only thing is I do not know how to swim
lol
at all, in fact I am SCARED to even put my head under water, i once signed up for a swim class at the YMCA in Boston but the POOL was sooo gross I dropped out
I still have my swim suit and goggles from waaay back then

Oh God I am sooo scared but I HAVE to do this, I have to do that Sprint Triathlon
so Swimming this fall it is
Then in the Spring my school has a class called Triathlon Training, which I am going to take to improve my time in run/swim/bike  etc……
by the end of the spring semester I should be ready for that Triathlon

I should also be 100 lbs. lighter by then so this is all being planned really strategically by me

But i am still scared

Diet and more blog

Friday, May 25th, 2007

Argh I am still gassy. I started taking the Digestive Enzymes today, i really hope it alleviates this disgusting problem. I am too embarassed to go anywhere, its bad enough I am farting up a storm in the gym on the treadmill. At work I just keep spraying the Arm& Hammer air freshener

I document everything I eat daily in a DietMinder food journal, it really helps me keep track of how many calories I am consuming and when I overeat, etc..

Here’s what I ate yesterday:

pre-workout:
honey nut oatmeal
3/4 box of raisins
I take the ECA stack before my workout because it helps wake me up

post-workout: protein strawberry smoothie made with:
1 cup OJ with Fiber ,1 serving of Protein powder, 1 cup frozen strawberries
I take all my vitamins with the smoothie, a multivitamin, calcium supplement and a Fiber supplement (I take my iron supplement at night)

Snack:
edamame
orange

Lunch:
Trader Joe’s BBQ Chicken salad
1 cup of raw baby spinach Snack:
1/2 slice of cheesecake
1/2 slice of strawberry/blueberry tart
they had a party for all of us MAY birthday people, so yea I indulged, I made her cut me just a half slice of each, total calories came to approximately 372

Dinner:
Trader Joes spinach lasagna

Late night Snack:
Sugar Free Jello
carrot sticks
celery
hummus
TOTAL CALORIES YESTERDAY: 1′987  my caloric goal daily is 1800, so I went over because of the cheesecake/tart thingy but also cause I had that late night hummus/celery/carrot snack

BLAH!

yesterday I was sooo tired after work I just went home and to bed at 7pm, woke at 1am STARVING, ate that late night snack, read a bit of my Oxygen magazine, then went BACK to sleep somewhere in between 2am - 3am. Woke at 5:20 this morning to work out.

Did the 2nd Day Workout of this video called Joyce Vedral Weight Training Made Easy, she is 58 years old. Lol, great body for a old lady and she totally can beat me lifting weights any day. So sad. Today I trained Back and Thighs as well as extra Butt and Abs work.

So anyway today I logged onto my OMP profile cause I am trying to find photographers to do some TFP shoots with so I can have some great glamour BEFORE shots. Today I bought 2 bikinis online for these shoots. A red one and a white one. Of course I couldnt find any bikinis in size 20-22, but newport-news.com had some in size 18 on sale!!!  So I ordered them. They will be super tight, but that’s ok I think they will work great to display the transformation in my body over the next year. When the suits get too big I will order them again in a smaller size. I chatted with 1 photographer today at lunch, he is willing to do a shoot we just gotta find a time that works for both of us and I am a leery about the fact he wants to shoot at his house, I’ve shot at photographers houses before but I dunno, i will check out his work

anyway I want several photographers to get different styles so I sent a bunch of emails to OMP photographers to see if any are willing to do some TFP, etc..

I am also looking on craigslist for a videographer/filmmaker to do a reality documentary on me over the next 12 months, so we will see if anyone turns up. A student would be great for this project. I just think it would be really cool to document each goal as it’s achieved and show how I looked and my thoguht processes and how my diet changes and my mindset. I am training right now to do this 5K in October. I think I am going to enroll in a swim class at school this fall because I want to do a triathlon early next year.

Well gotta get back to work, i am going to the gym tonight to finish week 1 of this couch to 5k program
