Ok so the search is on going, in the meantime I’m on the road to recovery from the ‘illness’ that’s beset me over the past few weeks.
Hoping to get a full week of training in this week switched to a 3 day week interspaced with cardio. Keeping the session relatively short and eating a good though not too strict diet.
Day one chest shoulders and tris
Day two legs
Day three back and bis
Added bonus I get to train with chipmonk a lot which rocks, I can see where she needs a little adjustment here and there and it helps us both to have someone to push us a little harder…
We think we have a new gym sorted, they really have messed our old one up totally, 500+ member left since they changed it, madness. The new place will ahs the added bonus of parking, two pools and fitness classes especially for kids, it’s also opposite the boy’s new school, not cheap but it may be worth it.
Just need to get back on the horse, but felling pretty good so far
Stay healthy

I’m sure this is old news to most of you guys in the US, but the story of Mike Flynt acts not only as a case study for the benefits for strength and conditioning but also make me wanna suit up again

personal issues made it nesc. for me to change my program this week, (my mum and dad are flying out from france so im taking time out to spend with them)
so yesterday i did day one of an upper lower split…im in prety good shape how hard can it be…
damn
it hurts,
everything hurts
deadlifts, cleans bench press, barbell press, pull ups and some ab work…. (not in that order) and I’m struggling this morning.
thats insane, less work more ache..
i guess I must have done something right….
add this to the fact i got my first outdoor workout of the year done last weekend and its not been a bad week for training so far….
now i just hope this sore throat is a result from last nights effort and not me catching hte boys lurgy…
stay healthy

for the first time ever, i trained with my girlfriend, she was on a chest and bi’s day and i changed my schedule to fit.
it was interesting and nice to work with someone, something i don’t usually get to do, we did her program, as she is contest preparation, i just up-ed the weight and dropped the sets.
hot going to say it was challenging, it was different and so,in that respect good, but i have bee feeling i need to take my trainging up to the next stpe for a while, so this morning a 05.15 i was up, in the study, rowing on the concept2.
nice
now i just need to keep it up, lawd its early

I was working a four split routine, which was cool, but time consuming and difficult f I needed to take time away for work or too look after the boy. So I redesigned my workouts to go to t three day rotations and allow a day between each grouping. So for instance
Day 1 chest shoulders tri
Day 2 legs
Day 3 back bi
Day 4 rest
Looks tough, especially when you consider that back will have dead lifts, (thanks to Hayley for the coaching advice so I can actually do them properly now), legs will have squats and chest…well we’ll come onto that in a min.
but remember life is a bitch, so I usually get days off at irregular intervals and rarely go three days straight, this split also means that, if I miss a day it doesn’t push my week about too much.
BUT I’ve plateau. Day 1 last nigh was a nightmare, I have real issues with chest day, I can’t bench without a spotter and then its feeble, always has been. Last night I was using dumbbells and, well, it sucked, I was weak and listless.
And then there’s my body weight, I’m told I’m looking bigger, but I don’t see it, worse my weight it static. I WAS improving on my lifts, but that has stopped also, I think I need a break for a few days to re-charge.
And yes I know, eat, and I do, obviously not enough but a guy can only force so much food down his gullet, you know
Rest and relaxation for a couple of days, next week I’m intending to have another go at that damned bench press

OK so the term is ‘bulking’ right? im new to this, previously i’ve just been ‘in shape’.
so eat, alot, lift as heavy as i can without causing myself an injury (and keeping form..etc) and try to ignore the fact that, all my life, excess body fat has been BAD.
but i dont get it, when do you know that you should stop bulking and cut? you can’t expect to reach your target weight in one sitting, right?
Janurary is hard, my gym is packed with people misusing the kit pulling wide lat poses in their shell suits and just not getting it…..
all hail my IPOD, and the fact that im having so much fun in my workouts that i can work around them.
ive been asked to act as conditioning coach for my old american football team (www.aztecs.co.uk) this is news, and challenging, football over here is very much voluntary, players pay to play (mostly), gonna be interesting
keep on learning

its been a while but I’ve been busy, I ‘fell’ into a 5 day split which was fine but tiring, I can’t train in teaching days anymore because of time issues, so I was effectively in the gym 6 days a week, all I needed was one meeting in London or Glasgow and my week was wrecked!
so I changed things around an move to a four day rotation, this is better and harder, doubling up body parts and working to 8 - 10 rep ranges for maximum weight ( notes I need a training partner )
- chest triceps
- back traps calves
- shoulders hamstrings
- quads biceps
funny thing, I was reading an article in tnation which mentioned changing your program totally and maybe (shock) dropping the stock exercises from your program and trying something new, as it happened I couldn’t get to the squat rack on Saturday, (stop doing bicep curls in the rack, dammit) so instead I went heavy on the incline press, for maybe 12 -14 sets going up to my max weight and more, keeping my form and making 8 good reps each time.
I couldn’t stand afterwards.
Seriously
I followed up with 3 sets front squats and 3 sets of hi rep extns,
Then I sat down
Lots of great stuff planned for the next 2 months, more later…still can’t bench press to save my life though….such a wuss
