I’ve lost a bit of my focus and have been re-evaluating my goals. I’ve decided that for now competing is not a priority for me, but getting and staying in good physical condition IS. I’m looking for ideas on how to add more fun to my workouts !

I came back from my week-long vacation ready to get back to my workout, and wound up with bursitis in my left shoulder…yes, the same one I’ve had trouble with, but didn’t know the cause of the pain. My chiro is once again saving the day, and has helped relieve much of my discomfort using ultrasound. He believes I can get back to working shoulders by next week. That said, I’ve lost valueable contest-prep time, and have been advised to give myself more time and do a contest next year instead of October’s SF Show. I think that may be best. I’ll still train hard, though!

My hubby just competed in NPC’s Central Valley Classic held in Livermore, CA this past Saturday. Mike gave a great bio on him, as he battled cancer in 2005 and was down to 135 lbs at his worse. He did his night routine to Tim McGraw’s “Live Like You Were Dying”…I was so proud!

Wow!
I’m so impressed and happy with the results I’m feeling after 3 chiro treatments….I never would have believed it, but the pain is nearly non-existant today! I’m hoping to really bang out a killer session on back day this week. I’ll be out of town this week visiting my sons, but will be at the gym every day. The biggest challenge for me will be to limit drinking wine with my sis-in-law in the evenings while I’m there! No, I’m not a wino—it’s just kind of our little bonding time;). Hopefully she’ll understand.

I finally gave in and went to a chiropractor after many bits of advice from my friends and hubby to check out my spine and shoulder issues. After carefully reviewing my x-rays, he found that I have some disc degeneration in my neck…enough to make me feel older than I really am! Well, that explains it . Anyway, I won’t be adding barbell squats to my routine, and have now removed hack squats as well. I’ll replace the hack squats with an additional 4-rep set on the incline leg press with my feet in the lower position to focus more on the quads. We’ll see how this works out. I’m optimistic!
I’ve had just one treatment from the chiropractor, and already feel about 20% better. My belief is renewed in chiropractic. I have high hopes for recovery!

I’ve been back working out now for 2 weeks and loving it. I feel some residual pains from my injuries, but hopefully they will become less of a factor as I get stronger. I’m already noticing that I have more definition on my right side of the back than the left (injured shoulder), so I’ll have to focus on that side and try to not favor it. I include rows in every back workout, both Hammer Strength and dumbell, so that should work my left side up to the strength of the right. Any other suggestions would be appreciated! The pain slows me down on that side, but believe I can work it out:).
