After 4 months…

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

After 4 months I finally flat benched last night. If you have read my previous blogs you know I have been plaugued with a bad shoulder issue for almost a year now. Had 2 cortisone shots and a MRI that my doctor said "showed inflammation" but have never been able to get past the pain. Though the issues are still there is has been feeling stronger. My last workout doing a flat bench (before the pain became so overwhelming I had to quit) I was benching 255 for 5 reps. Last night I benched 195 8 reps. Though it’s not a world record it felt good to lay on the bench again. I plan on taking it slow and easy and only added about 5-10lbs ever couple weeks.

BTW.. clorestorol was down 20 points last time :)

If you read this.. thanks.

Shoulder update and Thyroid??

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Went to the doc over my shoulder and got a coritisone shot.. to be honest it started feeling better immediately. We talked about my previous blood work that showed my cloresterol to be high and my thyroid to by hyproid. He said that there are cases where the thryroid could cause the cloresterol to rise so now i’m on synthroid. For years I’ve had symptoms of thyroid problem.. always tired.. coudn’t cut weight like i once did..but it never showed up on the bloodwork. I took my first pill this morning. i hope within a week or so i’ll tell a difference.

Also, worked out last night. It was soooo hard to skip bench and overhead press, but i thought i better give my shoulder some rest… then come back even better.

Shoulder yet AGAIN!!

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

I really, really hate to come across as a complainer..but my shoulder it down again.

i was doing flat bench working toward some heavy sets. I noticed that I just didnt feel very strong… 225lbs felt heavy for 5 reps, and i had been doing it 10.

235lbs hurt even more. I guess i should have stopped there, but i went on to 245. On the very firt rep i felt my shoulder pop and now i can’t hardly raise my arm. I’ve been through this before.. too many time actually. I have a DR appointment on monday and I’m going to suggest a cotrisone shot in my rotator cuff.

I honestly just feel like giving up.. maybe just become one of those "treadmill only" people… really down this time…:(

Poll- Split Route or Total Body

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

There seems to be a ongoing debate between which program is best. Some lean toward a split route, usually Back and Biceps.. Chest and Triceps, Shoulder and Legs. Some lean toward a Total Body Workout like Waterbury. Which program do you use (one of the ones i’ve mentioned, or another) and why? C’mon.. if you on here and reading this you DO have a route.. post it.. :)

Injured…. AGAIN!!

Monday, April 7th, 2008

I know it was dumb but.. well, let me recap. About a month ago I was leg pressing and had my feet just a little out of posistion which caused me to use too much calf muscle and i pulled it. Well.. yesterday there were some kids in front of my gym running up and down the sidewalk so i went out there and asked them if they wanted to race me for a dollar… Thinking my calf was completely healed. Weeeelllll….after the second step i felt my calf give up and pain shot through my leg. I did finish the race and won (still gave the kid the dollar) but now i’m limping around and quite grouchy.. so.. you can post and tell what a goof I am (yea.. it’s ok.. go ahead) and/or you can cheer me up. The choice is yours :)

Give me YOUR recipe!

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

I’m so tired of eating chicken and tuna (haha…never thought i’d say that) and am looking for something new. Give me your recipe and include the cal, carb, and protien count if you can… looking forward to it!

Is this place just a fashion show or what?

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

I was just on the main page reading comments that people send each other. You would not believe how many people write the same comment and then paste it and send it to people over and over again. This one guy sent the exact same comment to at least 6 different females. When you tell someone they are doing a great job MEAN IT! Don’t just do so to increase hits to your space or build up a heirum. Does anyone really use this site to help build accoutabilty and get inspiration and even SEND inspiration? Or is it just a online fashon show? You be the judge.

Inspired.

As some of you might remember I purchased a gym in Decemeber. A comerical gym.. not a bowflex..hehe

Anyway, business went from 18 members to 132 members ( which is great for our small rural town). I try very hard to be a “people person” when clients come in and right now I’m working out with a variety of people. Two of my ladies are a little overweight (in the mid to low 300lb range), some are high school and college kids wanting to tone-up, and my oldest is 74. Anyway, one of the ladies younger brother joined to help motivate his sister. He’s worked out with my workout/business partner three times so far.

Yesterday he walked into the gym while I’m there making equipment repairs and stocking items. He looks really serious and says “Mike.. can talk to you about something?” I stop what I’m doing and say “Sure… shoot”. I must admit I was a little worried because he had a very serious look on his face.

He said, “Man. I know I’ve only been lifting weights for a couple weeks, but I want to get serious about it. I want to know more about the right things to eat. I don’t want to lift and get really really huge, but I want to get bigger and in shape and look above average… I wanna look like you.”

I about passed out. NO ONE has ever said they want a body like mine. I laughed and said, “Dude… you don’t wanna look like me. I’m nothing. You want to build YOUR body and look the best you can look.” He went on to talk about how the gym has a family feel to it and feels really comfortable being there.

Anyway, I’ve been sorta emotionally down lately. I work out EXTREMELY hard and have been eating clean. I just thought I wasn’t making any progress.

Sometimes inspiration just walks through the door and changes your prospective. It did for me… bet it can for you.

Under Par

Friday, March 7th, 2008

Spent some time looking at the other bodyspace sites..

For the guys: Why do I feel so under Par when compairing myself to you guys? It seems everyone has a 6 pack and ripped. I mean.. I work out hard, eat clean, dedicated, but i’m nothing compaired to everyone else. How in the world do certain bodyblogs get 1,000 hits per day and i can only manage maybe 5 or 10? Am I in that bad of shape?

For the females: It’s a little easier. Show a little boob and the hits go crazy. I mean, I like a lil boob shot, but for the ladies that really are training, not just putting on a T&A show I feel like they are being short changed. I think a body space should show accomplishments in training, not a bikini contest. Proof is when you want "progress pictures".. they really aren’t progress. Just trying to get on the main page.

I’m not trying to trash anyone. Like I said, I enjoy this site. I guess I’m doing all these comparitives and feeling "lesser than…". BUT.. to the gym I shall go.
