Rest Week

Friday, December 12th, 2008

Choosing to take this week off was one of the best decisions I’ve made recently. This week had a lot of personal stress come about that took its toll on me physically. The last thing I would’ve needed was the stress of workouts adding to it.

I’m very excited to start the new routine next week. I don’t like always going heavy, but I think it’ll be good to have at least one heavy exercise per body part each week. Going up to 3 rest days weekly will also be a welcome change so I should have no excuse to not go all out on lifting days.

I don’t need the rest of the weekend off physically at this point, but mentally its looking to be a healthy thing to reset and start fresh. No expectations, just the ultimatum: go all out or go home.

New Workout

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

This workout is designed to overload the muscles and hit each type of muscle fiber. For each body part it will first get hit with heavy sets, the second exercise more for moderate weight with slower tempo and tighter peak squeezing, then the last set to burn out the muscle while pumping it out. This should help to initially build strength then as the muscles get tired move more toward restricting blood and O2 to get more local IGF release. Some clarification; "power" exercises mean that the weight will be at complete rest for a brief pause before each rep, which is explosive, so there is no bouncing or momentum at all. "Century" sets are 100 reps without taking any rest, except to reduce the weight as needed. Weight moved is less of a concern as long as it is challenging, achieving the pump, and getting a good burn. The eccentric motions are all going to be uni-lateral as well so the counterpart can be used to assist in getting the weight to the peak contraction point before the muscle is overloaded and forced to extend. (This causes a massive pump as well, making the following century set all the more difficult)

Ideal Female Body

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

I just read BiologyBabe’s blog and thought an image she posted was interesting regarding the female body and what was deemed ideal by men and women as well as the national average.

Something didn’t seem quite right about the ideals (though America’s national average for women’s size’s right now is a 14 I believe, if I recall correctly from statistics on Biggest Loser a few weeks ago). MMA3/Bold Review

Friday, December 5th, 2008

Today is the last day finishing up American Cellular Labs’ MMA3 (Bold precursor) and I’m quite pleased with the results, even from only one bottle. I ran a relatively lower dose at 400mg/day for only a month. While I didn’t directly gain a whole lot of mass from it (partially due to diet inconsistencies) I did gain noticeable density and hardness of the muscles. Pumps were fuller and strength gains made steady increases. Most noteably was going up 4 plates on leg press (for 8 reps) in 2 weeks once it really started kicking in. I’ve set a number of personal bests this past month. I feel like running it alone would be good, but potentially expensive to get a sufficient dose. It would, however, stack great with a number of other products out there. I’ll certainly be running it again in the future, provided the ban passed this year remains unsigned into law like it has been so far…

Now I’m bridged over and running ACL’s Tren Xtreme to finish up my stash of it. It worked beautifully back in Jan-Mar, so I’m hoping it’ll help me hit the 1000lb leg press goal by the end of the month.

Diet for Dec

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

I’ve got 1 more month to get things right for this year, and dang it, I’m gonna make it happen! The goal is set to press 19 plates by the end of the month/year. It’ll help that I’ll still be running a cycle at that time (finishing up MMA3 this week and bridging to Tren for a month). My biggest inconsistency has been diet, so I went to the grocery today and stocked back up so I have no excuse to not have what I need on hand. I’m not going for 5000 cals/day like I did back in C2, but I’ll be dialing in at just under 4000. The more I read up on good bulking diets the more I’m reading that for a male 18-20 calories per 1lb of bodyweight is sufficient for bulking. So here’s the split:

Breakfast (~7:00am)
1.5oz Xango
1c Grape Nuts
8oz 1% Milk
1-2 tbsp Honey
1 Scoop MaxPRO w/water
Coffee w/splenda

Workout (~8:00am)
1 scoop Full Blown Extreme
1 scoop Max ACM (carb blend)

Post-Workout
Big Max 50 Gainer w/water (500ml)

Lunch (~11:00am)
1c Pasta
1c Red sauce
4oz ground beef (91/9)
2tsp parmesan & romano

Shake 2 (~4:00pm)
Big Max 50 Gainer w/water

Dinner (~7:00pm)
2 beef patties (91/9, 1/4lb each)
2 tbsp ketchup
1 Boil-In-Bag of brown rice
2/3c Mixed Veggies
1 tbsp Lite soy sauce

Bedtime (~10-11:00pm)
1 Scoop MaxPRO
8oz 1% Milk

Old school leg press sled weight!

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

A lot of the equipment at my gym is older, so its much more heavy duty than some of the stuff in newer gyms. Well, did some math (which proved harder as I’ve been out of physics for almost 7 years…) and given that the leg press sled alone with a scale under the feet read 115lbs, that means the sled itself is actually just over 162lbs itself.

Sooooo… that means I’ve been leg pressing 862lbs for reps! ^_^

2 New PRs for Leg Day

Monday, December 1st, 2008

Legs have finally been getting back on track this last month. Its helped that I’ve given up on some exercises in favor of others. As much as I love a good set of squats and deadlifts, quite frankly I more often found myself getting hurt or strained on them than not, which of course affects how well I can make gains. I’m still keeping them around for maintenance and lighter sets, but for the heavy work they’re sitting on the back burner for a good while. So today I hit my heavy work early on in the workout as usual and was pleasantly surprised that my rate of progress is still increasing. Romanian Deadlifts and Leg Press are becoming my main exercises for heavy work on legs (front squats, straight stiff leg deads, etc. are used to finish them off after) The increases I’ve made in my back/posterior chain this last month are also showing their benefits. For final sets today on the Romanian Deads I got 8 good reps at 315 and for leg press 8 full range reps at 700+sled (Really wish I knew what that thing weighed, but I do know its over 150lbs). So I’m quite happy with that! The deadlifts in particular felt much better and zero strain at all. I’m sure I’ll be good and sore later today and tomorrow…
