Brain Hurt

Sunday we went to Water World and on one of the rides I ended up being thrown off the tube on a steep bank. End result was being flung in a way that made me hit my head first. Fortunately I didn’t get knocked out, but for a while after I was light headed and my hands were a bit numb. Felt a little better yesterday until the day started winding down. The workout was skipped in the morning and ended up not happening last night because it was throbbing and I couldn’t stay awake. We hit legs this morning and only got through half due to time, but in my case I was getting really nauseous. Top it off with forgetting my water (which has all my carbs, BCAAs, and glutaime) so I was low on fuel and it made for a crappy workout. Rest times were longer than goal, too. So… yeah, I probably got a mild concussion and am still recovering from it as I still have some swelling this morning. I hope it heals up soon ’cause this sucks and I wanna get good lifting in without feeling like I’m gonna lose breakfast, even if it is leg day.

It could be nothing, but man, you probably ought to get to a doctor. Sounds like you hit your head pretty hard, and you report symptoms of a concussion. Even a mild one can cause damage. You shouldn’t expect to be able to just get up and go as you normally have been with one of those.

Not trying to be harsh or anything, but concussions are not laughing matters. Please, see a doctor, soon, if for no other reason, to rest assured that nothing is wrong.

Thanks for the concern. I’ve had a few in the past worse than this one and fortunately know how to handle them since I’ve been through the process. I didn’t have any of the signs of higher grade ones like being knocked out, vision problems, seeing stars, etc. and the inflammation regressed promptly. Just looks like I need to take it easy for a little while longer. I think the other factor was that I forgot to bring my water with me to work yesterday, so I was probably a bit dehydrated to top it all off.

Oh, I have a concussion before. I got punched right between the eyes in karate class. If he had hit me just a tad lower he would have broken my nose, although it’s a little crooked now. Saw stars and was knocked out for a few. I remember that nauseous feeling. I also had 2 black eyes. No fun, hope you feel better soon.

Yeah, nothing at all like that for me. Worst one I had was back in middle school when I got tackled playing football by the light-heavy state wrestling champ and not only had the stars and what not, but I landed on the ball and got the wind knocked out of me. Fortunately I know the signs of them, so this is nothing compared to those. I would’ve gone and had a follow up exam is the initial symptoms had lasted longer, but they went within a few minutes. Nausea today I blame on lack of intense leg workouts for the last month. Plus, it was doing front squats, so I know it wasn’t putting excess pressure on the cervical vertebra.

Hooray for return trips with no injuries :)
