Last Minute Trainer Cert Change…

Well, I was all set to go on the NASM route, but for some reason I held off. I thought about it… "Why am I wanting this cert? Because 24 Hour trains based on it? I don’t really like how 24 Hour’s Solutions plan is based… Hmmm…" So I thought about things a bit more and I’ve changed my mind. A good friend has been affiliated with NSCF for some time and I’m opting for that to be the first route to go for my first cert. Looking through some practice exams, the feel of the mindset on the training, etc. I think it will be a better initial fit. So, on that note, off to order the training materials!

Cool! It looks like a great program. I’ve heard (read) good things about it over in the forums.

Hey Trixter! Congrats on your cert selection. I used the study flashcards and the practice exam package that were available for the NCSF test and did pretty well on the exam. You’ll do fine.
I suggest trying the NSCA one as well. They publish a performance journal that is entirely research based and packed with tons of good stuff; they test protocols on athletes, firemen, and navy seals. The NSCA is the only not-for-profit cert and one of the most sought-after certs for strength and conditioning.
If you ask me, NASM is too concerned with telling people about their muscular imbalances. They put too much emphasis on the overhead squat protocol as if it were the be-all end-all workout design tool. A guy goes up to you and tells you he wants to get huge and you’re going to have him do a step up to single arm shoulder press??!! Nonsense!! (NASM Protocol) AND it’s an expensive cert!!
    Your better off w/NCSF.

    Good luck on your exam,
    DAVE

agreed with Pixi. Some certs are more respected than others’ but it all comes down to how you sell yourself….that is what you are selling…in a non prostitute sort of way! LOL
