Unconventional cardio

The Oct M and F had an article, Iron Clad Cardio.  It was written for me. I do not do a ton of cardio as I lose weight pretty quick if i do- very fast metabolism.  It caught my eye when it spoke of "As far as you’re concerned any time not spent waging war against some kind of resistance is futile."  I did the starter workout consisting of 1 min at each of four exercises for two cycles continuous cycles. Seems easy enough-a toddler way to start. Yikes. I did pushups, then walking lunges, plate woodchop and then clean and jerk. Wow, what a workout. I was still a little sore from my Saturday full body compound workout. I hope to throw this in when I am stressed for time. Tons of call and work and a trip out of town. I do not want to miss a chance at working out. It gave me some ideas for a workout on the road as many of the exercises require little or no equipment which is most hotel gyms.  Take care to all.

I did a full body workout from the ectomorph for mass article on the front of BB.com and wow it was awesome. I changed it up a little. It is 4 sets of each exercise 10, 8, 6, and 15 reps each exercise. I did 2 mninute rests. Squats. Bench Press, V bar pulldowns. I substituted clean and press for side laterals, then BB curls for DB curls and then narrow grip bench. I then did two sets on just my right arm of decline overhead extensions to try and catch my right lateral head of the triceps up with the left. It was awesome. Almost needed the bucket at times. First time for clean and press in 20 plus years and loved it. I am going to try and to this 3 times a week though it took 90 minutes so may have to split it to accomodate late starts during the week. The only thing I don’t like is deads were not part of it. I may try to do them every other workout. It is definitely a departure for me though i have a ton of call in the next two weeks and then out of town trip and then intown guests so working whole body with fewer total workouts per week was intriguing. Any comments appreciated. Take care.

Chest and bis

Half day post call and I got to sleep well last night. I broke a black cloud streak of being called in every call night for disasters. I had a great workout with 5 sets of BP at 190 by 5, heading back to where I was at 205 5 by 5.  Patience. I then did Incline DB press and flyes and then bb curls and cable curls. Felt great. Bummer is, on call again in the am and only 1/3 of the docs are in tomorrow that means me and one other poor soul covering 6 practices. Yikes.  I at least have a half day thurs and the three day weekend off. Should be able to hit the weights on those days. Take care  to all and good luck with your own workouts.

Shoulders and forearms.

Had a great day time workout again today. Shoulders and forearms. Felt great. I am now two full weeks back and loving it. Bad news is, on call mon and wed this week so will be hard to stay consistent. I am going to give it my best however.

BH made me do it!!

Thanks again BH. I was drop dead tired but hit it anyway. I had a long day, the kids had their first day back to school so busy nighttime. Great first day for the two oldest and the youngest starts tomorrow. I was dragging but hit the garage for back and tris. Pullups 6, 5, 4 and then deads, rows, and seated rows for a total of 13 sets and then 6 sets of triceps. The weights are coming back up slowly after the month off and I am enjoying it. Endurance is going up a little. The bummer is I am about to get slammed with call. Starting friday I have 3 of 6 nights on call, then a week of regular days and then 4 of 6 nights on call the first week of sept. If only BH could help me there. I am trying to get through another cycle of the whole body before that hits. May have to settle for Wii fit for some of those call days.

Chest and bis

HAd a great workout tonight. Did chest and bis. 17 total sets in 51 minutes. I loved the power hooks for incline DB bench. I had previously only been able to get 60 by 7 for three sets and did 65 by 8 tonight with the power hooks. A little wierd to start with but definitely a nice inexpensive addition.  I used the BH inspiration from a thread in the O35 and got a few extra plates on and a few extra reps. Off to bed, first day of school for the little guys so earlier morning than normal. I cannot believe another school year begins.  take care to all.

legs

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

I did legs today despite a 100 degree day. The garage was hot as could be. I did 5 sets of squats and then 2 sets of leg press. Had to break as the heat was too much and I was about to puke. Went back to hit the hammies and calves. Overall 51 minutes. Felt great. First leg workout formally in a long while. Hope to be able to walk tomorrow. I have now completed a full body cylce this week, my first week back after a break. I am not on call until Friday so should be able to hit it with some consistency this week.

 Took the boys to see Clone Wars today. Yikes the violence was more than I anticipated though with war in the title I should not have been surprised. The kids loved it and I had fun just being with them.

Daytime workout yeah. New workout partner

I had a great workout with my new puppy. She hung with me in the garage and the only time she got in the way was doing seated rear delt raises where she thought i was playing with her. I loved the new power hooks it was so much nicer to do DB shoulder press without having to heave the weight up. It will be fun to see if I can push further now. I did 13 sets of shoulders and 5 of forearms and 3 sets of abs staggerred with forearms. Had a great workout though too hot. In the 90’s today. Glad to have time to workout. The kids are at Gmas and we are about to go on a much needed date.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. Cannot type further, forearms shaky.

Back and triceps

I hit back and tris tonight. Another late start. bedtime for the boys in summer stretches almost to 9 pm. Started at 9:10 pm. Did pullups 4 sets, deads 4 sets, bb rows 3 sets and lat pulldowns 2 sets. Almost tossed cookies after deads. garage is very hot in the summer.  I then did Narrow Bench and DB overhead ext for 6 sets of Triceps. I am normally most wiped out the second day post call so that was tonight and I hit it anyway. I can say that I am back. Totally pumped up and feeling good again. Cold is treating me better though this am was worse. Hopefully the steel will  scare it out of me. I cannot go any longer without hitting it. Will try for tomorrow and then call again on Thurs. Weekend is free though, I cannot wait.
