Squeezed one in

I had a dinner meeting until about 8:15 tonight. Snuck in to kiss the kids good night and then out to the 96degree garage to hit shoulders and forearms. I continued my dumbbell focus with DB shoulder press seated up to 5 by 8 for the last two sets.  Then rear delt raises pronated grip, lateral raises, and db upright rows with a wide spacing ( big difference with the wide spacing). Then behind the back wrist curls, cable wrist curl and reverse cable curls. Can hardly type.

We are heading to the Oregon coast this weekend so hope to be able to drive with the shoulder and forearm assault I just did. I feel like I stole one as I thought no way could I workout tonight. Last night I represented my group at the 93rd annual Snake River Stampede rodeo and didn’t get the kids to be until 11 :20 and us until 12 so missed last night and dragged today but got a second wind.
I plan on taking the 200 or so steps down from the house to the beach and back up with my kids on my back all week long. Hoping to find a Gnomus rock to toss around on the beach. Take care and good luck to all. Off to sleep 7 am meeting in the am.

31 hr day and still hit legs and calves!!!!

I am pretty psyched though unable to walk. Really missing the fold out couch we used to have down stairs. At some point I have to make it up stairs. I had a long night on call and a busy afternoon with family stuff. I started working out around 8:50 and did front squats this time backwards in my smith and did better until above 130 and it would roll so I went to the BB and liked it much better. It hits my tear drop better than back squats and I am purposfully avoiding them for a few weeks before hitting them hard after a short break to change up legs. I then did leg presses on the smith, essentially vertical leg press and went to 344 for 12 reps. It was awesome. Then SLDL with DBs and then calf raises on smith and DB seated calf raises. It was awesome. I can barely walk right now and the old PWO shake is in my throat. Yikes it was a great workout.

 Late night tomorrow with a rodeo/fund raiser to attend and will be bidding on a pink cowboy hat to support breast cancer. Doubt I will get to workout tomorrow and then dinner meeting late Thurs so may be my last workout before heading to the oregon coast for a week of relaxation with the family.

Incredible family time and workouts

I had a great weekend with tons of family time, getting to see my kids with truly great behavior and having tons of fun.  Grandma turned 60 and we hosted the party and she is not 60 inside, stating she didn’t feel 60, a great example of staying active.  I was able to squeeze in 56 minutes of chest and triceps today and had a great workout. Doing mostly dumbell work right now to change things up and seek balance. I did dumbell bp up to 72 1/2 lbs for 10 reps.  Time to get more dumbells. I have through 65 and then can add 7 1/2 lbs in platemates. I did Incline DB bench and Incline flyes and then  seated dips and overhead extensions for triceps. Felt great. Showered and the first guests arrived for the party as I came downstairs. Perfect timing. I was thrilled to get a workout in.

Do you ever plan on working out and then look at all the things going on that day and having a little voice whisper "no way will you have time". Well, I heard that voice yesterday and today, but got to hit it anyway. I am psyched. 6 out of the last 8 days I was able to  workout. On call tomorrow, so likely next workout post call tuesday.

Back and biceps

Big family day today with tennis in the am, swimming in the afternoon and a nine yr old bday party in the eve. I squeezed in back and bis and got to do some tennis drills and have my oldest hit the weights with me. I did pull ups, up to 6 per set now, getting better. Standing vbar rows with a low cable were new to me and I liked them. Felt like a variation of tbar rows. I then did db rows and lat pulldowns followed by db biceps curls and preacher curls with dbs and then cable curls to burn out. Felt good and to get a workout in post call and with such a busy day was  pretty cool. Tomorrow is a repeat of busy but want to do chest and tris as I am on call again monday. Day off with family and night with shoulders and calves.

I took the day off to be with my family after  a few busy weeks. WE had a great day and went to visit our soon to be puppy about an hour away at the breeder’s house she is so cute. WE cannot wait to get her she is 4 weeks old and an F2B labradoodle. It was hard to leave her though she will be with her mom for the next four weeks before joining us. Surprisingly the boys handled leaving her better than mom and dad.

 I hit shoulders and calves. Mixing it up with mostly dumbell work right now and really feeling it as I come back. I have a huge hematoma on the left upper biceps from doing smith front squats. I have an angled smith and at the bottom it would put the bar down on the proximal biceps. Ouch, will not go there on the smith again. Want to try front squats with the barbell next time though suspect it will be a while with the hematoma. Looks way worse than it feels.  Shoulders feel good. I am typing with the forearms lying on the desk. Calves are good. Bummer is my donkey calf machine, ie my wife with all due respect, is down to 125lbs and her back is out so I  did not ask her to hold weight on my back so went high rep instead of high weight.  I love being back 4 out 5 nights  now and hotter than hell out in the garage so feeling good about hitting it. I am on call tomorrow but am officially sore everywhere so the day of rest (oxymoron with a 24 hr day) will be welcome. I have the weekend off so hope to start the cycle again.

O holy legs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am back. I hit legs at 9:20 tonight after a late dinner and bed time with the family. It was the first leg workout besides bike rides in the last month. It felt great though I did front squats on the smith for the first time in 20 yrs and have a nice bruise across both biceps superiorly. I think I will go with the good old barbell front squats next time I get the but to do them.  I did box step ups with Dumbbells, then leg curls and then leg extensions. 40 minutes took me to 10 pm and had work to do so skipped calves. I can barely walk right now and absolutely love it. This makes three nights in a row and I am psyched. Take care to all and good luck. Prayers for any who are not able to work out right now for whatever reason.

Day 2 back at it.

I did back and bis tonight. Not as hot as last night. I did 12 sets of back and then 6 of bis. Trying to be moderate going back after three weeks off. I am pretty sore already from the chest/tris yesterday. I am quite determined to keep it up. I am already in a better mood. My staff even noted it today. They guessed that I had worked out last night based on mood. Yikes.  Prayers go out to all who are temporarily off track for what ever reason.. Take care and good luck .

Finally back at it.

I have had a bad stretch of work and then tried to make up for the work hours with my kids. The long and short of it is that after my week of vacation I have had two weeks without workouts. I have got a few bike rides in though nothing terribly taxing. Wii Top Spin 3 has been the best thing to working out for me.  I finally hit it today with chest and tris. Wow what a loss for me. I went pretty easy though it was 92 out today and the garage was hot as could be. 42 minutes for 8 sets of chest with mostly 12 - 20 reps dumbell work and then 6 sets of tris. I was dissapointed at the loss though know it will come back. I am excited to get going again. My mood has been pretty bummed for me. Work has been incredibly stressful when summer is normally a relatively quiet time. Hope to be back solid. I will look to my friends here to keep me motivated.
