132 hr work week

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Ok after a week of vacation I had hell week. I logged 132 hrs this last week from monday am to mon am.  I feel like a Mack truck hit me. I am wiped out. I have had a 2 1/2 week break with fairly good spirits until now. I am missing the workouts so much. I went from 180 to 174 on vacation with tons of hiking and fewer calories. I am back to 177 though a little leaner I feel over all. I had tons of meetings this week and three nights of call. The last 2 1/2 days I worked 54 hrs straight with only about 7 hrs of sleep. I am dragging. Had a good family day today trying to make up for not being home but for a few waking hrs this week. WE all went to Wall E and had a good time and then a little Wii tourney before bed.  I have had some tragic cases the last few days making me count my blessings with three healthy kids and an amazing wife.

Sorry to rant and  not even post a workout. I hope to hit it tomorrow for sure. I have to get back. The good news is not on call until Thurs and then I have a three day weekend and no call until fri the next week. I should be able to make the comeback. I have looked at the time off as a good rest (perhaps misnomer with the hrs this week). I have kept a good mental attitude and tons of visualization of what the workouts to come will be. I appreciate the inspiration here. Take care. Good night.

Chest and bis and prayers for my mom

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

Long day today but hit it tonight. I did chest and bis. Was dead dog tired though out of town this weekend in Seattle and my experience there is poor hotel gyms.  I have meetings almost the whole time I am there so wanting to finish a cycle before then.  I was kind of bummed–tried 200 on bench again and got 3 sets of 5 but then dropped the last two sets to 4.  I get stuck at the midway point.  I will keep here until I get all five at five. I at least kept the weight at 200 the whole time, last week I dropped to 197.5 for the last set. Looking for some progress. Followed with incline press and incline flyes.  Feeling good. Finished with 6set of bis–barbell curls and incline db curls with the last set being a drop set of 15 reps total. I am not typing so easy at this time.

Update on my mom is that the original problem of brain aneurysm has not been sufficiently ruled out as first thought earlier this week. Trying to get her into a neurologist. Funny thing is she is in Scottsdale Az and gettting sh tty care and I am in a town of 75,000 and have better resources at my finger tips here. I offerrred today to fly her up though her husband just had eye surgery and needs  her there and cannot fly right now. I appreciate all of the prayers. It is overwhelming to know how many are praying for my mom. Thank you, take care and God Bless.

Feeling very lucky!!

I have had a whirlwind week so far.  My mom had a CT scan of the head last week for headaches and was told by answering machine that she had an aneurysm and needed to schedule an MRA. Wow great style by the doc. She had the MRA on Monday and so on call monday, sweating away waiting for results, I did some research finding that aneurysms are rare in the general population though if a first degree relative, ie mom, had one, you have a 1 /10 chance of having one yourself.  I have headaches all the time thought to be migraine rarely, and sleep exhaustion the rest of the time.  I began to wonder if I have an aneurysm- perfect for a med student though that was 13 yrs ago for me, yikes. The wheels were turning. The treatment is observation if they are small as the outcome from intervention is poor. The treatment also includes no smoking (no loss for me), no drinking ( no major loss for me) and no heavy lifting (life altering for me). I was crushed to think I  might have to stop lifting. If one ruptures, you are basically done for. Well the good news is that the MRA showed normal vascularity and no aneurysm. Call it prayer or call it CT is shades of gray and MRA is more precise, I don’t care. I will have a better idea once i can see the studies myself though people from coast to coast were praying for her and the funny thing is she did not know how many prayer lists she had made. The news appears to mean that she will be fine and that I am still a lifter.  I have a doc in AZ to flame for piss poor behavior. She still has not had any contact except two phone messages. Sounds selfish to worry of myself not being able to lift, though lifting next to my wife and kids is the fuel for my fire.

I am sore still from the weekend being beaten up by yard work so was undecided as to what to workout. I decidec on legs since they were least sore and will be hiking the end of next week and out of town this weekend so maybe only  1 1/2 cycles before Yellowstone.  I did a few sets of warm up squats and then 200 for 5 sets of 5 with relative ease. Up again 5 lbs. Going ATG and feeling great. Midback tight from the yardwork so skipped leg press and did leg curls and then leg extensions to burn out. Then 6 sets of calves. I had a great time. Had been yawning at 8 :45 and 21 sets later sipping on the pwo shake. One hour total. Felt great. Feel absolutely blessed to be able to lift tonight. Thanks  to all the kind thoughts and prayers for my mom. Take care and God Bless.
