Great to be back after knee injury

I have been taking it easy this last 10 days or so. I have had a quick recovery though still feel a little weak in the left knee. I did arms tonight and loading and unloading put the knee through a lot of rotation which was the only time it said hello watch out.  Overall great workout.  I hope to be able to get back in. Anxious about  the first leg workout coming this weekend. Take care to all and have a safe Labor Day.

on call, no chance of workout

Monday, August 27th, 2007

Getting slammed today and tonight. Only possible workout is on the feet now for 14 hrs and still going.  Some tachycardia likely sustained for periods of 20 - 30 minutes today with some critical issues.  Hope to get some rest tonight so I can hit it again on my half day tomorrow. Somebody please lift weights for me tonight. Take care to all.

Tested Knee out today

I had a hell week with work and then the weekend dedicated to family time to make up for the bad week.  My knee is much better making me think sprain and not tear of meniscus which was the only remaining question as the knee is stable. The kids wanted to play tennis today so we all went and had a great time with an hour and a half of tennis. If you have ever played with a good tennis player (my wife), and 3,5,and 7 yr old boys, you would know that the knees get tested. Did just fine.  I am so relieved. I have call tomorrow and then will resume workouts with weights on my half day Tuesday. Cannot wait. Take care to all. New respect for my knees earned with this scare.

Follow up injury to knee

I was on call the day after I injured my knee though had a pretty easy call day.  Half day today and saw our Sport Medicine Dr. Pain is less. No significant bruising or swelling.  Range of motion is getting better. The knee remains stable. The Doc thought likely a sprain though with the loud pop was worried about a medial meniscus tear. If not better in two weeks, MRI.

Tonight my pain is minimal and last Ibuprofen was this am.  Only minimal pain on full flexion.  Still  hurts if I twist just right.  I am thrilled with the quick resolution. I was instructed to go very light and no deep squats for two weeks and if better resume normal activities. 

 The amazing thing of the quick resolution is how bad it was at first and how good it is now. This am my seven year old asked me how my knee was and when I said that I was much better. He said, "Good, I prayed last night that you would get to stay home on your call night and that your knee would heal quickly".  I didn’t get a single call overnight. It was one of those precious times when my wife and I shared a glance at the thought of what one of our amazing blessings has become.

Injured my left knee

Monday, August 20th, 2007

I was having a great workout tonight for back and bis and added a new exercise. Inverted rows from my smith machine.  I did one set and liked it. A little awkward at dismount. The second set a little harder. When coming out from under the bar my left knee bent medially with a loud pop. I did not immediatelly have pain and was kind of surprised given the loud pop. Waited less than 90 sec to my next set and it started to hurt incredibly. Finished bis though knee is killing.  Ok to hold straight, hurts like hell to bend it.  I am so bummed.  I am on call tomorrow so a thirty or so hour day is not likely to aid in healing.  I hope that it heals quick as I cannot sustain a set back right now. Having too much fun and too much success. Thanks for reading my rambling. Take care to all.

Rough end of the week though great workout today.

I had a great workout today. The joy came in that Dana my wife has been out of commission and played her first tennis yesterday and then asked me to train her today. I had developed a whole body workout for her in the spring though she has had two surgeries and slow recoveries. She is back at it now and despite not working out except for the natural work of three boys has stayed in great shape. It was a blast to not be in the garage alone at 9 pm. Took a little bit longer rests. Normally 90 sec, today likely closer to 2 minutes. Took advantage and went up on reps and weights. Take care to all and have a great week!!!

10-10-2-20 legs

Just finished and cannot walk and food does not want to stay down. It was 96Degrees out when I started and the workout leaves you of the disabled. Burning good right now. Hope to walk once DOMS sets in.  Take care to all. Thanks to those who inspire me to go out in the garage at 96 degrees after a 12 hour day and do legs.

Missed yesterday on call but got a workout in today

48 hrs on call this weekend only got me one workout on Saturday.  Sunday was very busy.  I got done today around 1 pm and had a great time with the family and then once everyone was safe in bed got started at 9:10 pm. Did not have the energy but took the inspiration of others who workout dead dog tired and did it anyway. Dedicated arms day. I cannot hardly type now so take care to all.

Post vacation

Friday, August 10th, 2007

Rough week after vacation. Came back to find 4 of my 6 colleagues out leaving me covering 4 out of 5 nights of call the end of this week. 2 down and 2 to go starting at 0800 tomorrow.  I was dead tired tonight though my wife pushed me to work out as she knows it elevates my mood.  It worked. Back and bis. Did deads to the almost vomiting stage. Great workout. Good to be back. I am leary of working out on call after my last fiasco getting called in after chest and a 6 set superset of triceps, to back up a colleague.  We’ll see how the weekend shapes up. Next week things settle down some. Take care to all and thanks to those who inspire.
