Luke, Mary, Julie, Teri, Bonnie
They say when one door closes another one opens. On Monday I closed a sad door. Graduation was last weekend, and I decided not to do the walk (it’s THREE hours long!!), so the reality of being done wasn’t really felt. But when I watched Mary get into their truck headed toward Tennessee, for good. I felt it. Right here (pound, pound)…in the heart.
Which brings me to the question of the day.
Do you believe in fate or free will??
This conversation is hot in out house right now…and it actually started with Mary (yup, girl!). Going back to school was a transition for me. I had been out 10 years before I returned. First time at a University. In a field that is a smidz on the intimidating side. Feeling a bit scared and a little intimidated (yup, I said that already). Then, I meet a person. Second degree. Done the University theng before, organized, prioritized, knows the ropes, warm, thoughful, funny, athletic. My girl!!
Did I seek out her friendship because I subconsciously needed support in the form of a great friend to spend time with, brainstorm with, study with…you know how smokers are just drawn to smokers…they seek them out unconsciously/consciously to supply a need or desire they have. My mind is controlling my behavior.
OR….maybe this person was a planned part of my life. Presdestined. Our friendship was not a coincidence. She is part of the plan of life? Place miracuosly in my life at just the right time to better me as a person.
I’m sure you all can relate to this. Wether it is a person, or a test of character, or what ever…it happens every day in life. What is your name for it???

That darn risat!! She’s been telling me how great these box jumps are, and I’m like…’Huhhhh??? What’s a box jump??’ So, under her advice, I just youtubed them and got some good visual! This guy starts out with one riser ….Ris, told me to do eight. So…today I go to the gym, get my risers 8 stacks high. I stop. I look…and I think. Ummmm, No. This isn’t going to work. Take off two. Aaaaahhh, much better!
I loved it! I have been wanting to incorporate some plyometic exercises into my workout but really haven’t investigated them too much. I’m ready for some changes…feeling like I have reached a bit of a plateau in my routine, time to change it up! So then….
I went to bb.com vast article forum and searced for HIIT. Found some good artiles on training. I’m going to start the HIIT on the treadmill tomorrow and I am uber (yes Mary, I said it!!) suber excited to try it!
So, what I need from you???
Your feedback on some personal great plyometic or HIIT expereinces. I want to make these a primary part of my workout for the next 8 weeks. So, I am searching now and would love to hear what works for you!!!
In other news….yes my career at IA State is done!!! Yipee! It is official and this Saturday has been declared have lots of fun, celebrate with good friends, no holds back, no homework, no work, project free, (deep breath….) SUPER DUPER WEEKEND!!! 2 more days!!!
Ciao!!

It has been 72 hours, 24 eggs whites, 13 miles, 15 pull ups and 40 push ups since I have started my new get my a$$ back moving, sugar detoxing, eating clean be lean body building machine, transition.
So, how goes it, you ask?? Very well, thanks for asking! This is were I should be, this is what I am now…without this lifestyle and structure I am not balanced physically or emotionally….
During the course of my crazy projects, tests, internship anxiety…I convinced myself that by sacrificing exercise in the name of priorities and by taking a break from eating clean to ‘relax’, that I had really just self-sabotaged. In fact I had really lost priorities, because when I eat well and exercise my body these are the priorities that set my mind free to focus on work, school, family and personal growth.
So there you have it. My reflection of a a bad two-ish weeks and the hard lessons learned from abandoning my priorities.
And what else have I learned?
That I eat an aweful lot of egg whites.

… IS BECAUSE THEY DON’T DEFINE THEM!!!
You like that??? One of my BFFs (cough, mary, cough, cough) gave me this great little goal setter book for my bday…and I am starting it this week!
The last couple of weeks have been a roller coaster ( yup, Jul…like you my friend!), so crazy and it has impacted my nutrition and workout life significantly. Deciding not to compete actually played a mind game with my head. It took my goal away and I was without any new defined ones…so I just kind of stopped. It was weird…because in my new exercise life of the last three years, this is the lowest point of non-exercising, horrible eating, bad attitude I have ever been in…
So, now what??
Well, you know what they say….’you can take the girl out of the competition, buy you can’t take the competition out of the girl!’
What???? You didn’t know that that’s what ‘they’ say?? Well, its true! So…I’m back! (and you didn’t even know I was gone!)
Big lifts planned for this week. Back to the 6 day split w cardio 5 days. Legs and shoulders tomorrow. Run outside in the a.m. Eat clean. NO SUGAR. NO SUGAR. NO SUGAR. NO SUGAR. NO SUGAR. LOL!! (it’s true…i am a sugar junkie). Back off milk…makes me bloated and icky. 40/40/20 diet. Perfect ratio for me. Gives me the carbs I need w/o feeling deprived and I’m not storing any excess…and that my friend, is a good thing!
OK, here I go! Wish me luck! I plan to start posting more, think that will help me get back in check. Update on Wednesday to keep me accountable, how’s that??
Peace and hair grease!

9 weeks ago I applied to internship, my three picks, in order of preference was Iowa State, University of Wisconsin/Green Bay and Mount Mary/Milwaukee. The nationwide match for internship was done this morning at 12:01. This is what it was all about. In dietetics the internship is more important than graduation….everyone graduates, not everyone gets an internship (and you have to have that to become registered). My nerves this weekend have been unsettling and the intensity of having my computer sitting on my lap watching for my fate at midnight was excruciating.
Then at 12:06 there it was. Iowa State. I’m staying home!! So happy. So releaved. Feeling really proud, I’m not gonna lie. It feels good and I wanted to share that with you!!

The bad news??
Competition is out for now. Temporarily!! A minor delay!! A mere bump in the road of life! It is just to much on my plate right now….out of pocket school expenses, finding a new place to live, moving….the list is endless!
And sense we are being honest…the stress of all this has left my diet a little less than desirable!! You know what I mean…you’ve been there! LOL!
So, with this new day of opportunity and rejuvinated faith…I am back! I am ready to be clean, lift strong and run hard. I will train and eat like the competitor that I will be someday. I wanted to post some progress pics this weekend, but celebrated BEFORE and AFTER the match, so….need I say more?? What I will post for you is my Earth Day Race!
5K. Time 23:35. Second female, first in age group (yeah, a small race!! ) Good friend Mary, 4th female, second in age group. Was lots of fun. Love the game.

Geeeshh, I sure am bad about posting new posts!!
I’m pretty sick of celebrating my birthday (LOL), so have to post something pretty quick to move on!!!
So, what is new?? Actually lots of stuff I want to tell you about but waiting for this weekend to just post it all, you know me…the less blog posts the better I am!
Full weekend and am actually going to do some fun stuff! Earth Day race on Saturday morning and having a little Earth Day dinner at my pad on Sunday night. Do have to do some work and homework, but at least I will be around actual people!!!
Workouts have been super! Have been trying to up my running and cardio in-general. It’s really starting to get nice in the Midwest (well, if you don’t count today), so I am looking forward to more runs outside…that’s really what it’s all about! LUV it!!
Tried some POWDERED PEANUT BUTTER the other day! Heard of it??? Well, it’s not actually as bad as it sounds if you think of if as a DIET pb and not the full fat version (YUM). It is sold in the health mart section of our grocery and is all natural ingredients. Peanuts with a bit of sugar (3 g/serving). Any way…only 54 calories/serving (2 Tbs). Crazy! It’s perfect to mix in yogurt and protein shakes. Not a bad product, will buy again…but only if I am dieting!!

Well, that is it for now! Hope to have a new blog with new news this weekend/ Monday at the latest! LOL
Lator gators!!

Left to right: Luke (Mary’s husband), ME (the bday girl), my angle face son (handsome for short), Tennesse (Mary), Bon-Bon and Hilary.
Well, as you can tell…the decathlon didn’t happen! Bummer, such a great idea….but have to chalk the lack of participation to my lack of planning!!! TOO BUSSYY!! Are you sick of hearing that YET??? Wa Wa, call the WA-mbulance!!! LOL!!!
But instead, did manage to do a couple of fun things with my crew!!! Had dinner at M’s last night. She accomidated my diet by preparing some nice balsamic chicken and roasted veggies, chickpea cutlet with FFree ricotta and great beet and parsnip salad!!
If you click on that tomorrow (Tuesday), you will see my bday dessert. A yummy, creamy, fresh Lemon tart!!! But, guess what??? I didn’t eat it!! Not one creamy, lucious, tart bite! What a drag! Being good is just not so fun sometimes!!
Well, I did do that race I had mentioned. My little racing buddy, Kelly, and I did an 8k on Saturday morning.

Nice and sunny day. Beautiful blue sky, but….I WAS LATE!!! Had to drive to Des Moines from Ames (35 miles-ish), Drop my son off at a friends and make it to the start at 8 am. Well the gun went off and I was still walking from the parking lot! DAMN!! So, my thoughtful, considerate friend WAITED FOR ME!! Can’t believe it! So, run in to start the race, pin my number on while we are sprinting to catch up to the walkers, bump and dodge the pack and finaly find our pace (exhausted by this time!!). Finished the 5 mile at a 8:17 pace. Not too bad I guess, considering I was being timed without even being on the course!! So, long story short…I need to do a new race!!
I had a great bday, really did. I am thankful for my friends and my good kiddo!! I love being able to share it with all my BB friends and hope you all had a super groovy weekend too!!

HELP!!
OK!! I have narrowed my suit selection to these three fabrics. Please allow me to introduce them!
Fabric one (spoken in slightly lispy high tone) issss a crushed black velor, accented with sssswooops and sssswirlsss of glisssstening golds and ssssparkeling copperssss. magnificccant.
Fabric two is background color of ssssubtle coral color highlighted with gold sssspecks that reflectsss light in mirroring magnitude. lovely.
Fabric number three is a natural beige tone twinkled with clear crystalssss. The naturalness of this fabric leaves a beautiful palette for numerousss embelishing ideassss. classic.
So there you have it. I am leaning toward one of these, but am torn really between two…but I’m not going to tell you yet!!! You have to say first! Can’t wait to hear your input!!!! I’m excited for the different opinions!
In other news….9 weeks. WOW. The single digits! It is Monday, so I did a weigh in…forgot to do that last week! Anywho, no change!! 114lb. So, I scoped out a trainer and decided to do a bodyfat check. 16%. Not bad. Did three readings for an average of 16.6%. 9 weeks to drop ~4%??? Yaaaa, that’s doable! Don’tcha think??? So commited to having my check done every Monday by the same person, mostly for an accountability check since diet is getting a little trying.
Training is good, but school is sooooo busy!! Which explains the lag in blogs and slow responses (sorry!). My plan is to post new progress pictures next weekend!!
Thanks for the input, all!!! Have a super groovy week!!

D
Beware! Don’t be fooled by the ‘innocent’ face! She is possessed and evil! Alias names: Oatmeal cream pie, swiss cake, nutter butter, among may others!
Jul recently told me we are two people walking the same line, miles apart. I agreed. We are insync. The same goals, same time frame, same stage of life, same love of peanut butter and now…same blog funk. It has been one week since I have lost blogged and I’ve got nothin’! I’m having a blog fart, a blah blog, a blog blank. Blog schmog!!
Hhhmmmm….a week in review. Sprink break has came and went. The kiddo is back from Spring Break and returned with a ridiculous sunburn…throw in the marks from the spray sunblock and he looks like a lepor!! And ya…I did tell him that! LOL!
Sooo …me and my gal pal, Mary went shopping for fabric colors (for the suit). I didn’t find the ‘That’s the ONE!’ But…have gotten some good colors to choose from. Black with copper?? Red?? Burgandy and gold?? Natural or bright??? Aaarrggh! I think this mindset may be related to my lack blog uummph too. Can’t think, can’t commit, can’t decide. Are the wall closing in???
Diet has been OK. It has actually been pretty good…but was a lot easier when the kiddo was gone and the cabinets were bare of creamy dairy products and processed sugary snacks. Now, Little Debbie, Blue Bunny and Captain Crunch are back to haunt me. I think they talk to me. They know my name.
Workouts, good. Playing the game. Doing what I should be doing and giving it my all. When I work out I really stay focused. Think about what I’m working and where I want it to go. I am one with the gym. hehe
Ok all. Short and sweet!
Tootles!!

Did a Monday weigh in today. I like the weigh in just to keep in me in check to see if I need to speed things up, or slow things down. No calipers this time, going by what I see only. Yes, I listened to you all!! Seems like things are progressing as planned! I am gradually loosing my ‘bulk’ at a nice slow pace and by next week I plan to meet my Break Even point, which is perfect b/c that will be the 10 week mark and you know what that means!
Ok, it doesn’t mean anything…but it sounded dramatic, right???
So, what changes have I seen??
On this journey I would have to say that my legs have been my biggest breakthrough. They really came out quite a bit. But I am speaking from the quad side. The glute side?? Not so much! Every time I do a lunge or hamstring curl I think..’Raise butt, RAISE!!’ Defying gravity is a hard thing to do!! damn physics.
Now I am waiting for those abs just to pop out! This is were my diet comes in. They say six packs are made in the kitchen…right?? Have you heard that before? I’m sure that I have washboard abs (LOL) hidden under there somewhere!
Did someone say nutrition?? Well lets talk. This week has been good. I have been very clean and disciplined. I have been tracking a food diary to present to my trainer this week…I have been writing everything down. EVERYTHING. B/C…lying is only lying to myself! Right? RIGHT! Lower carb diet, good fats, lean proteins. Some late night cravings but not too bad…nothin I can’t handle! Cause I’m tough like that!! (yaaaa…keep telling myself that!!)
Knock Knock!
Who’s there? Irish. Irish who??
IRISH you a HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY!!! (cuz i’m just nice like that )
