Outside the zone

Monday, January 28th, 2008

‘We only grow as humans when we are outside our comfort zone.’

zen.jpg

True.

I spent 10 years at a job I hated for so many reasons, only because I was afraid to change…to explore other opportunities and challenge myself.  Afraid of failing, falling, disappointing.  I was afraid to step out of my comfort zone.

Then what?

Well….I did it.  I took that first step out of my box.  Leary at first, looking both ways before crossing the street.  One step, two steps, a little sprint…and I was across the street. I haven’t looked back and have since ran across avenues, skipped over alleys, and am still in pursuit of crossing bridges.

It is difficult pushing yourself, and for whatever reason the comforts we’ve grown accustomed to are justified to stay out of the boundaries of familiarization. Breaking out of familiarity is one of the hardest things I have done and one of the hardest that I continue to do.  Now, instead of fear keeping me in my comfort zone, it is the pursuit of accomplishment that  pushes me out.

Now, here we all are together outside of our comfort zones as one. Working, pursing, determined to grow.

What is pushing you out of your zone or what is keeping you in?

fantasy land.jpg

In a world of peanut butter pillows and marshmellow clouds is a place I like to call TeriLand, and this is what is new here….

1.  I hired a trainer!  I started working with her last week and will be working with her once a week until competition.  Which I really don’t know if its going to happen….  April 22nd I find out if I stay (Iowa) or go…so a move could interfere.  We’ll see…but right now, training for a March 31st. competition in Omaha.  She is intense and professional.  I really like her.  Legs last Wednesday. Seriously, it was an effort walking to my car!  Chest and triceps this Wednesday.

2. I have gained six pounds!!!  The two friends that I have told, can’t tell.  Is that good or bad???  But, I can see it in my legs and a bit in my shoulders…definitely  in the core!! sniff.  4 more pounds to go!

3. February 14th is my goal date for weight gain.  This will leave 14 weeks to cut.  Slow and steady to not loose muscle.  I am changing my diet a bit to get ready to conform to structure.  Elimination of night time sugary snacks.  Not a nightly thing by any means…but I do enjoy a little ice cream for dessert once in a while! Elimination of night CHO with dinner.  Extra scoop of weight gainer in day to make up for calories.

4. Incorporation of cardio.  Just cause I miss it.  It has been close to two weeks since I have ran. I really don’t want to lose this, because I really do enjoy.  Hopefully the extra scoop of weight gainer will cover this too.  Low intensity…fat burner mode.
That is it the magical world of TLand!!!  Lator gators!

just another day in paradise…

MEAL 4

Cliff bar. 1 oz nuts. banana

MEAL 5

1 cup oatmeal. 1/4 cup bran. 1 scoop protein

MEAL 6

4 oz chicken breast. 3 oz. shrimp. 2 cups veggies. 2 cups 2% milk

Nitrix 3/day on empty stomach

GOAL:    2200Kcal   40% CHO/40% PRO/ 20% FAT+25g FIBER  breakdown:  220g CHO/200g PRO/49g FAT

ACTUAL: 2519Kcal.  a 40/40/20 breakdown based on 2500kcal:                    250g CHO/250g PRO/55g FAT

not bad, not bad. 3 lb. weight gain as of last Thursday, feels like it could really be a little more. The last two pairs of pants I have had on have felt a little snug in the waist, thigh and ass region…a good thing.  I am lovin the idea of a little more junk in the trunk…even if it is only temporary!

workouts good. following a six-day split from the NANBF website. Coming to the end of 4 weeks, so will be changing soon.

Hired a trainer and will start meeting with her once a week. very exciting.

Looking for a new competition with a sub-masters category.  Have my eye on the heartland classic in Omaha, May 31st.

Thats it, just another day in paradise!  Later alligators!

18 inches

self.gif

…the distance from the brain to the heart is 18 inches. (That’s what you thought this was about….right??)

It only takes 18 inches to turn a negative thought into reality.  I listened to this topic on my way to work the other morning and have been thinking of it ever since.  The power of words, the self-fulfilling prophecy, pygmalion effect, 18 inches….the belief that what we say truly dictates what we become, how we live, the goals we attain, or not  and the attitude we express on a daily basis..how our actions of these beliefs effect others and then how they perceive us…all effected by our words and actions.  A vicious cycle or a rewarding ring.
Do you ever catching yourself saying, ‘No…i can’t’ or ‘It’s too hard’. or ‘I’m too old’…or have such road rage that you carry it through out your day, or have a fight that you won’t budge on because you know your right.  It’s all around us.  Negative energy and thoughts just waiting to be turned in to reality to affect our possibilities and hamper our goals.

It happens to all of us, but in that split moment that it does happen…it is so important to acknowledge that is happening and immediate replace it with  ‘Yes, I can do this…if it was easy…everyone would be doing it.’  ‘Old?  Old, smold…it’s never to late to be who you thought you might of been’.  yes, yes, yes you can!!! repeat and rinse.
I’ve been warding off my 18 inches for the last couple of days…thinking of internships and competitions  (of course this has to be about me…it’s my blog!).  I’m not down or blue..don’t get me wrong, just thinking of all the possibilities that lie ahead and thinking, and expressing,  great thoughts to make them happen!

These are a few of my favorite things….
