Some solid progress

May 7, 2008

So I’ve been doing the whole milk + peanuts to supplement my diet (finally got up to 3500Kcal a day thanks to this), and I’ve gained some solid 6-7 lb over the last 3 weeks.  I just bought a weight gainer, and will try it for 2 weeks, since the whole milk + peanuts was messing my macros up, upping my fat intake to 45%. Now with the weight gainer I’ve been able to maintain a 40-40-20, 500 Kcal a day above maintenance for a few days, and I feel pretty good about it. I’ll continue to bulk maybe some 3-4 lb more and then begin my cut, since I’m getting married in 8 weeks and I want my abs back for the ocasion.

No progress…

April 7, 2008

I was wrong. Apparently those 3lb were water or something cause they’re gone. I lost them in a day. I’ve been training to failure 3 times a week, 45min. I’ve been eating clean 2500Kcal a day. I haven’t seen any improvement in strength or bf %. I’m officially stuck. I don’t know if I should start lifting lighter, or eating more junk food, I have no idea what else to do. I need help.

Progress, finally!

April 4, 2008

My weight is finally going up. For some weeks I was not eating that well, and predictable resutls: no gain. I decided to cut the crap and began writing down my meals.  2500-2800 clean Kcal a day and finally; this week I gained about 3 lb. You always read and hear how important the diet is, whether for fatloss or muscle gain, but I didn’t pay much attention until now. Although is hard to keep track of everything you eat, at the end it’s well worth it. Training hard is definately not enough to grow, as I though it was. I was living out of whey powder, but nothing can replace real food. I’m still finding it hard to eat all the food, 500kcal every 3hr is a lot for me right now, since I’m mostly not hungry. Any tips?

RANT

March 26, 2008

There are so many things I like to say, and nobody is listening. Not ONE blog view. Why am I even posting this? anyway, I injured my hip while doing squats because some dumbasses were chatting in front of me blocking the mirror. I lost my concentration and felt a sharp pain in my left hip. Now I’m totally injured, thanks to them. I wasn’t even doing a lot of weight! F**K! I’m so angry right now!

anyway, I’m beginning a bulking phase now, gonna try and gain at least 10lb, and only 1 or 2lb of fat, in the next 6 weeks.

On other news, I’m officially a F**ing pencil neck. I hate myself for that. I’ll do more shrugs from now on. Any suggestions? why do I bother, no ones reading this shit…

New workout

March 25, 2008

I’m trying a new workout routine for the next 6 weeks. It’s a variation of the 5×5 program. The 5×5 requires you to do each body part 2 to 3 times a week. That’s too much for me since i’m sore at least 4 days after a workout, so I’m gonna do my own version of it, 5×5 once a week per body part. What do you think? Will it work?

Introduction

March 24, 2008

Hi, this is my first Blog, and I really don’t know how does it work or what is it for, but i’m gonna use it as a diary, to post my workouts, my goals, my problems and my triumphs. Hopefully some of you will read these and post something that will help me through my process.

I though I could start by telling you where I am right now, and what my goals are. I’m 155lb, 5′ 8′’, aprox 15% bf. I started working out about two years ago when I hit almost 200lb and +25% body fat.  I began by jogging and doing some dips and pull ups, but eventually joined a gym. Being totally clueless, I focused on cardio, and never touched a dumb bell or bar bell, only cable machines now and then, and did not change my diet. I somehow manage to lose some weight, but didn’t see much change in body composition or shape. I was smaller, but still chubby. I quit the gym in frustration, and gained most of the pounds back (sounds familiar?). After a few months of feeling sorry for myself, I decided it was time to try it again, but this time, the right way; I was going to do my homework. I researched every fad diet and gadget in the industry, every famous personal trainer’s webpage. After much reading, I came to the conclusion (the one and only) that there was no easy fix, no trick or shortcut. It was going to take time, lots of weight training, diet and cardio to transform my body.

And so I began. I started out (again) jogging 20 min 3 times a week, weight training 3 times a week with a lower/upper body split, and changing my diet progressively. At first I just eliminated junk food, sugar and fried food. Then lower my carb intake and my calorie intake. Later on I bought my first whey protein powder and multivitamin. I saw results immediately! I started to lose fat and my muscles started to show up under my skin (I lost a lot of muscle in the process, I should have been more careful).

Ok, so, for a few months now, I’ve been doing the same work out; 3 day split, chest day, back day and leg day, comprised almost only compound excersices (squat, deadlift, bench press, pull ups), and though it has yielded very good results, it seems I’m reaching a plateau. I haven’t seen any improvement for a while, haven’t lost or gained weight and haven’t been able to increase my lifting weights as much as I used to. It is very hard to stay motivated without a clear and defined GOAL, which is exactly what I DON’T have right now. I don’t now if I should keep my calorie intake at maintenance level, increse it or decrese it. But that depends on the goal! I don’t know if I should begin a bulking phase, ’cause I’m terrified of gaining back all the fat that I have lost over these 2 years, and have taken so much hard work. Being again at +20% bf is not an option for me. If anything I want to be in single digits, but I don’t want to look skinny either.

Anyway, that’s my situation. What do you guys think? help me out. Will keep you posted.

P.S: question: Is it posible to lose fat and gain muscle at the same time? (even if slowly)
