Pissed!

Have been lifting for about a year. Making decent progress, nothing to write home about. My chest progression sucks! The rest of my body is growing like a weed; my chest is lagging. Dnt know what to do. I have tried to up the reps; have changed the order of my routine around. About to give up on my chest b/c idk what else to do. Btw, my current routine is flat bench,  incl. and dips (when needed), machine bench press, cable flies and pec dec. My sets usually average around 12. My reps are mid-range. Beginning to think I need to up the rep rnage and lower the sets. Also,  have been at 45 lbs. DBs for a while. Want to try 55 lbs.; I might be a little out of my league. My next goal is 50. Was wondering should I skip the 50 lbs. and go sraight to 55; does anyone have any ideas, suggestions, comments, etc.?

My chest progress doesn’t move that fast either. Have you been measuring your chest or are you just eyeballing it? Decrease the reps, up the weight and move with 4 to 5 sets. Push, push, push. Follow my routine for a few weeks and see how it works out for you. Just keep in mind that you need to do as many reps as you can on each set. Keep increasing the weight with each set. You find that you get stronger faster and your chest will start to grow. Every month you should swap from dumbell to barbells and vice versa. Hope that helps.

when it comes to making those types of gains, you’ve got to push and incorporate new fibers, which means kicking the crap out of ones you’re already using which means training the muscles to exhaustion. This means your set count is about to get insane. You’ll also need to lift heavy. Don’t grab a weight you can toss around with no problem. A weight you can manage comfortably only about 8-10 times should be good enough. Be sure to use a spotter! Even if you don’t have a partner, lots of people in the gym won’t mind giving a spot while they’re resting up. Good luck!
