No Jumping The Curbs

So I decided to try a new path on my bike ride on Wednesday and it was awesome! I rode past a crew of cyclists who were headed out on a group ride, and then just stayed on this path that ran between a golf course and the rode. Gradually it moved further away from the road, and I say this rocky creek with a picnic area next to it. I was definitely stopping here to take a look.
Briing brrrriiiiing brrriiinnnnggg>> FLASHBACK TO A MONTH AGO - I tried to cross a street, jump a curb, and ride up a hill before getting run over by a Ford Mustang. I hit the curb with my back tire and when I got to the top of the hill, PSHHH. No more back tire. I called my wife who came to pick me up.. humiliating.. BACK TO WEDNESDAY>> Brrriiinnnnggg brrrriiiiing briing..
It was just a 5 inch step! So I popped up my front tire and it came down right in front of the step, which made my bike act like a huge rocking horse that was throwing me off. I landed on my knee in some rocks.
Thanks to my ticking heart, I tend to bleed a little longer than the average person, so I lied down on the bench with my foot up on the table, drank some water, and called my wife to make sure she was aware of what happened and that I was nowhere near where I could be picked up. I also took a picture of my knee and sent it to her, with which my 16 year old son and his best friend were very impressed, because apparently “wiping” on a bike or skateboard and bleeding are really cool, and texting a picture of it is “sick,” in a good way.

Anyway, I got back up and rode and it didn’t really hurt for another 5 or 6 miles, and then I called in for the minivan again. From now on, no jumping curbs and I am getting a first aid kit. (Duh.)
I have a ride planned in the morning, so I’ll see if it’s back to 100%, and I am starting a fitness diet and workout program tomorrow as well. I have NEVER really dieted before, so this will be new for me.
Have a great weekend!!

OUCHIES, but I agree with your son… coool!! Nice battle scar, my friend! I hope it heals up soon, though, and that you were able to ride! Best of luck with the new program - can’t wait to hear about it!!
