Press On Calvin
Prior to moving to Texas, Barb and I lived in Western Massachusetts. Barb is native to that region but I am from the Kansas wheatfields, spent a number of years in sunny Florida and can never say I became accustomed to the New England winters. Being a conservative midwesterner, a move back to where my slow drawl, and slower moving approach to life was more appreciated was a familiar welcome. One thing I did become a fan of was the wit and wisdom of political figureheads from that part of the country. One of my favorites was Calvin Coolidge. In reality I knew very little about him until living in Mass., but I soon learned about his incredible way with words when he chose to use them. He was known as a man of little words but when he spoke he motivated all around him. This is a "Calvinism" that has caught a lot of positive comments from our clients. We keep a poster with these words on the wall:Â
"Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan “Press On has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race."
