The photos on this forum
Sunday, July 8th, 2007I remember well the first time I dared to post a photo on the forum and admit it was a monumental wrestle with my own insecurities. I tried the camera facing into the mirror method and found that the image was either too blurred to be recognizable at all (maybe not such a bad thing) or he flash went off and it looked like I was spontaneously combusting.
I then pursued a more hazardous approach - leaving the digital camera on self-timer, while balanced on a bunch of precariously balanced boxes, trying to strike a pose that didn’t look absurd by the time the camera went off. After dozens of shots of the inside of my palm, my back and my chest as I was on the way away from the camera (when it went off to quickly) and on my way back to find out why the camera had not gone off at all.
Am I the only one that goes through this rather humiliating ritual?
I finally got the camera to take number of (hopefully) reasonable photos. It was only when I downloaded them onto the computer that I realized how ruddy awful they all looked. Obviously the image one sees in the mirror is significantly different from the one a rebellious self-timing camera captures. It is now clear to me that the only way to get a half-decent photo recording my progress will be to summon up the courage to ask someone else to take the photo.
