I took the plunge and traded in for an Iphone a few months back. It has applications for everything, so I searched for one that would work as a workout log.

I found Gymbuddy. I think it cost me $2.99. You can put your workouts and exercises in the way you want to. It has a timer, if you want that, which times between sets. It also has a 1 rep max estimation based on the amount of weight and reps you were doing. I really think this works as well or better than a notebook. It gives summaries of how often you work out, the amount of weight, rep and sets you do and more. You can still listen to your tunes while working out.

If you are an Iphone user and like to log your workouts, this might be something you are interested in.

So I am in my EARLY 40s. I feel okay, but I do fall asleep in the chair at the end of the day. There are a few other small symptoms that might hint at old age too.

I was listening to a co-worker tell me about his recent trip to the Doc. He said he was feeling kind of tired all of the time and lethargic. He went to the Doc and was prescribed some sort of tetosterone replacement therapy gel. My friend said he feels like playing sports all of the time now!

So of course……I did some research. I had some of the same symptoms. I did a search and found a urologist in the area. I called them and explained (in greater detail than above) the story I just explained here. They said they accepted my insurance and an appoinment was made.

On arrival they charged me $50.00 co-pay right away. I thought this was odd as they could do extra stuff…like bloodwork.

I knew they were going to draw blood, so I didn’t eat breakfast and only drank water. I answered a couple of hundred questions and then the male nurse came in. A very large bald man. He asked me personal questions about my equipment, which I answered. He then asked me to pee in a cup. I did quite well and did not spill a drop. I am glas I was so careful as the nurse did not wear gloves as he took the plastic cup away. I wish I would not have shaken his hand though.

The Doc came in and I explained everything a third time. He said okay….drop your pants it is time to check out your equipment. I was a bit surprised as I was really hoping they would draw blood from my arm. He told me to bend over and lean on the table. You know what happened next…..cold lube and awwwwww!

He then told me there was napkins, soap and water right there. He pointed to the counter and walked out. No foreplay? No cuddling? I payed $50.00 for this! I felt cheap and used, and yet I was the one out of $50.00.

I waited in the room for a bit and heard a schrill scream from next door. Then the masochist returned to my room. He told me my blood pressure was great. My pulse was quite low and my equipment was great ( i knew I liked it). He mentioned there was no puss or blood in my urine. I was quite relieved.

He did say that because my libido is fairly high ( not sure what that means) that he did not think I had a tetosterone level issue. He told me I was just getting old. They did draw blood though. So we will see in about a week.

My kids would have told me I am getting old for free and I would have saved $50.00 and not been violated!

Hindsight is 20/20

It is funny the same cycle I follow every year. I work out very hard from January to the end of April. I workout five to six days a week, have every meal listed as planned according to what to eat and when to eat it. Then May comes and it is fishing, camping, hiking, work, and summer fun. Workouts turn out to be sporadic and only able to get one or two a week sometimes. I always rededicate myself and pick up a little at a time.

I used to skip a great deal of fun stuff, because I couldn’t miss a workout. I learned that life has to be enjoyed too and try to be a bit more balanced. Sometimes life gets to be a bit possessive and I have to remeber that the gym needs attention too! So I always look to magazines, bb.com forums and other places for information and a bit of inspiration.

I joined a new gym that is part of the hospital in the area. It has a pool, hot tub, steam room, sauna, free weights, plenty of machines, plenty of cardio and a running track. As I started back into weights again…this gym seemed okay. I was a little put off by the large number of naked men sitting bare assed on the benches and sitting in the hot tub in their underwear, but maybe I was the weird one. Even if I am…. I wish they would stop groping themselves all of the time. I could swear the one guys shoulders were moving in a jerking fashion as we sat in the hot tub.

Then I start noticing how crowded it is in the free weight section. Not just crowded with people, but crowded as the machines are too close together. You can’t step behind the bench to spot a guy, because the other bench is butted up to head to head. You can’t get a 45 pound plate off, because the other 45 pound plate on the other bench overlaps it. I could go on and on, but this is getting depressing.

So…with all of the naked old dudes groping themselves and the crowdediness (is that a word) of the gym, I ended up back at the old gym. I saw the same old crowd. Nice to be home.

I still went to the gym and did the weight I needed to do, but intensity seemed down a bit. Have to focus harder to make it an individual goal, rather than a team thing. Sounds selfish, but I am not sure how else to do it.

My partner and I are both down to 12%. He is actually 11.8. I have been living in the gym and I think chickens must be extinct after all I have consumed.

The nagging knee and shoulder injuries are still there but I have been ignoring their screams. The biggest challenge is the weather. We have had unseasonal warm weather that makes my heart wander toward the lake and bass fishing. I managed to fight it off, but I will never win that battle. Cold weather is for lifting and working out, but warm weather is for enjoying the pursuit of the wily bass. If it is nice on days I am not required to work….to the lake I go! The rest of the week I will be punishing myself in the gym!

Our gym finally purchased a t-bar row. My back is still crying and it has been about three days. What a great addition to the equipment.

Speaking of equipment…. I know working out greatly increases your drive, but it is out of the stratosphere this year. The wife is scared to be alone with me anymore.

Diet is going well without any cheat days so far. I read an article about cheat days and how it affects leptin, but I think I will stick with what has worked in the past. So invest in chicken and eggs folks! The demand is quite high around here right now.

It is odd how it takes a great amount of time and effort to mess your body up, but then you expect it to be fixed after a week in the gym. I have been in the gym and strict diet longer than a week. The results are starting to show. I dropped 3.8% body fat. I gained 4 pounds and did not expect that. I have been doing more cardio than usual and thought the weight would drop too. I have been keeping the pulse rate around 125 while peddling, running and so on though. That might be the trick!

The Scivation Xtend seems to keep me strong and recovering faster. I am also enjoying the Scivation protein powder.

Off to the gym aain today!

I watched the biggest loser last night. I m not usually a fan of reality television unless it is the NFL, but this show always seems to grab me. They stand if front of millions and let it all hang out there in an attempt to change their life. Pretty admirable in my humble opinion. I don’t need much motivation these days, but it does motivate.

We rocked shoulders yesterday. I could hardly sleep. Every move makes them groan. It is funny when you work out a body part and it feels huge. I wasn’t sure I would fit through the door with my new huge shoulders. Then you look in the mirror and they are the same size you woke up with!
