A little more core…

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

Or a lot more core. I’ve started doing some new core exercises and I have to say, it’s awesome to feel that burn! You know, that burn. That burn that makes you feel like you’re somewhere between the point of being on fire and about to throw up.

I was thinking about it, and I really do thoroughly beat every other area of my body up. I’m going six days a week, and going strong. But the one area that seems to get looked past (not fully, but just in comparison of everything else) is my core.

So after this work out tonight, I’ve decided to keep putting major beatings on my core, just like I do everything else. If I don’t, I’m only cheating myself.

Work hard, and take care.

It put a smile on my face…

When my little cousin called me last night to talk to me about getting strong, it made my week! Brian is turning 16 soon and it had been so long since I talked to him that I didn’t even recognize his voice! He said he has been working out at his school gym.

I gave him what little bit of advice I could over the phone, which was more like a very brief crash course on diet and what it takes to get stronger and lift heavier, with emphasis on things like good calories and good form. I offered to pick him up on Sunday and bring him to the gym with me. I told him that I would have to do my workout and he could try and do what he could from my workout, and then we could hit on a few various exercises so I could give him some pointers.

It really gave me a good feeling that my cousin shows interest in this. He’s got a good head on his shoulders and he’s a really smart kid. I know that if he decides to stick with it, the sky is the limit for him. The age he is coming to is the perfect time to start conditioning himself.

I’m really looking forward to teaching him anything that I can.

Work hard, and take care.

A little further…

For three months now, my body fat has stayed at 5.7% (using a seven site test). This is not by any means a complaint (I do think this is good) and I have actually gained some weight during this time, which was the goal. I set a goal for myself to bring it down to 4.2%. The date I have set for completion is February 1, 2010, and this seems to me to be more than enough time.

I’ll be doing short but intense sessions of morning cardio four days a week (something new for me). Diet-wise, I don’t plan to eat less than I am now, as I do not want to lose any of the muscle that I have worked so hard for. I do plan to carb-load in the morning and eat very little carbs in the afternoon. Hopefully this will not affect my evening resistance training.

Today was the first morning I woke up and ran sprints. I feel good, and I am looking forward to seeing further development of the results I seek.

Work hard, live well, and take care.
