Setback #1

Well, not even a full week in and I get my first setback.  Had to move some furniture from my brother in law’s and managed to get a hernia.  Its my second in 3 yrs, and at least managed to get it on the side that I didn’t have it on before.  At this rate, I won’t be getting much of anywhere towards my goals.

I’m gonna have to revise the plan for now.  Two doctors visits, one a consult and the other a referal for the consult, in the next week or so.  That means, at least I can work off the weight, even if there won’t be much lifting for me.  For all of you that haven’t had a hernia and subsequent surgery before, thats approximately 5-6 weeks of no significant lifting, ie-5lbs or less.  If you haven’t had a hernia before, mine have both been slow progressing.  Get a good workout in, some tightness and discomfort prolong after your usual tightness from lifting subsides.  Almost feels like some cramping in your lower abs, like you pulled something.  If it doesn’t go away, try pressing on the tightness, and coughing a few times, one at a time, and if you feel something loose that pops in and out, you got yourself a hernia.

Current plan now is to cardio twice a day.  One being biking, the other running.  In about 3-4 weeks, that is going to have to move from 20min intervals to 30-40min and go from biking to running as they do in most triathalons.  I figure, if I can’t lift, at least I’ll lose some weight and stay in cardio shape. Damn hernia.
