Does creatine work?

February 22, 2007

tbilisi25

I guess some guys are lucky; they buy the cheapest creatine, gulp it down for a week and see the results in strength and size. Well, nothing comes easy for me in life and creatine is not an exception. After trying different brands of creatine mono hydrate, I concluded that creatine has no effect on me (except minor psychological) but before giving up on it decided to give it one more try. This time it’s Ethyl Ester by BSN (Cell Mass). I made a commitment to drink a lot of water with it so let’s hope it will give me a little edge. Serving one; this stuff tastes really good. For you, creatine non-respondents out there (anyone???) I will rate this product in couple weeks.

High or low reps?

February 20, 2007

tbilisi25

You hear it all the time: low reps with heavy weights are for gaining, high reps for definition and fat burn. I know this amateur statement is wrong and that in order to grow, you need to alternate between low and high reps but every time I went to gym, I was tempted to lift heavy, being able to only complete 5-8 reps with it. Well no more I said to myself! I dropped the weight and went up to 15 reps. It’s week two of the 6 week high rep cycle before I lower my reps to 5. From the start, it was obvious that I needed the switch. For instance, up to 8 reps I lifted weights easy as if I needed to go heavier but from rep 9 I felt like the weight just doubled in my hands and it was a nightmare to go up to 15. My body was surely not trained for high reps and now it is shocked. From the second set, I felt a pump and who cares that I was curling only 85 lb. bar if I felt a better stimulation than curling 115 lb barbel for only few reps?

Calories!

February 15, 2007

I used to make fun of people who counted calories and there was a time when I used to say “I eat whatever I want, whenever I want and don’t count any calories”. Even until recently I did not take exact measure and just guessed my daily intake. I thought I was pretty accurate but then I decided to take exact account of daily intake and I was shocked to find out how much I was off when estimating. There are few great cites that will help you to monitor your caloric intake but I like You can start your free account in minutes and create custom foods and nutritional goals. Weeks later you can check back and ran a report to see what you ate. Besides vitamins and minerals, it gives the amount of macro nutrients in grams and %. So check it out and see if you can do it for a week or two. After that you will be hooked. Good luck!
