Goal #1

May 26, 2009

Finally got a chance to check my bodyfat percentage, and I have dropped to 25% bodyfat :)   Still a long way to go, but at least I made it to goal number 1.  I really do have to credit the low GI diet, as well as the ridiculous amount of cardio I have been doing with rugby and cardio.  I wont be gaining much muscle this summer, I am so busy with football and rugby, I dont have much weight room time.  Kind of hoping that will change in the next couple of weeks, I have some loose skin right now and I need to fill it out with some muscle.

I havent posted progress pics just because I havent really seen the difference physically…likely because of the loose skin, and that I still have fat on my abs and legs that I am still really unhappy with.
New goal:  21% body fat by September 30th…hopefully I can make this goal before September.

Going to postpone lifting goals until I can get to the weight room regularily again.  Not sure how my shoulder is feeling either, its sore from the last rugby game…I need shoulder pads.  Hopefully I get some money for my birthday this week so I can buy some pads..and new rugby shorts.  Plyometrics this winter bulked up my legs like crazy…my rugby shorts are fitting like spandex…just without the mobility of spandex.  Lol, biking is going to make my legs bulk even more.

Only a week and a half until I have the money for my new bike!!!  Brodie Romulus, amazing bike!  So excited…looking at 10-20km a day depending on whether I have rugby or football, or just work.

PCOS

April 24, 2009

I was diagnosed with PCOS on Monday, which although a shock, it is good to know.  PCOS is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, which has a ridiculous amount of side effects added onto it…one of which is obesity and diabetes :( .  Women with PCOS are often insulin resistant, and I also have a bit of a hypothyroid problem (another PCOS related issue).  It makes sense though, as to why no matter what I eat, or how much I work out I can never really shake a layer of fat off of my stomach and thighs.  Thankfully though, I have been very active all my life and it definitely prevented me from being obese, which generally happens to most PCOS women.  Its going to be a long road, and I will eventually get rid of the weight it will just take longer than I originally anticipated. Going to try and get into a dietician that has knowledge of PCOS, hopefully that will help.

Definitely going to have to re-evaluate my goals, particularily my body fat percentage and my weight loss goals.  :(

I went to Kung Fu last night at a new place.  Its been 3 years since I last went (move to a new city plus school meant minimal extra-curricular).  I actually really enjoyed it.  The first bit was just warm-up and dynamic stretching.  We then moved into strengthening with stones (literally, chunks of stone that you lift).  We went through the stances with stones in either hand and then we did the punches with the stones, it was really 30min of lifting the stones.   Basically you were holding the stones above your head, straight out in front of you, or straight out to the side.  It was pretty phenomenal, and an incredible workout both for the body and mind.  We then went into the meditation portion of kung fu, and meditating on the breath.  The last part was Chi nuh, which is more the real life application of Kung fu, learned some great techniques but its going to take some serious practice to get them down to a reaction.

I actually felt great afterwards, I miss combining meditation with activity.  As much as I try to do it with the weight room or running, its not quite the same.  I want to go again, but its $140 for the month, and right now I don’t have the cash.  Its either Kung fu or my utility bill, and right now the utility bill is winning.

Since I am going back home over the summer to save money for my last year of school I will likely go back to train with my old Sifu.  I enjoy kung fu there, and I still have a lot of friends.  I just need to see how the schedule is going to work with rugby and football.

March 10, 2009

I’ve been working at maintaining a healthy body and with that a healthy mind.  Lately, because of the demands of school, I’ve been neglecting myself and I am not going to do that anymore.  Although I am more in shape than the average person, my fitness now leaves much to be desired from what it used to be.  I have also decided that on July 25th of this year I am going to do my first adventure race.  I am opting for the shorter 4 hour one, but I will hopefully move my way up to the 8 hour ones quickly.
So far I started my day out right, up early, good breakfast, awesome lunch.

Breakfast: Bowl of Optimum Slim, Soy Milk, and raspberries

Lunch: Argula Salad, with raspberries, slivered almonds, goat cheese and homemade dressing.  Pork Loin with Rosemary. 1/4 Tomato and 1/2 Avacado.

Supper?? - Not sure yet…maybe a guilty indulgence like Weisswurst, but likely balanced with more argula salad (The day I bought the argula was the day it technically expired…I need to eat it quickly) and a protein shake.
