Visualization: Form, Style and Power!

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Today as I was pushing through my 1km swim I suddenly hit that speed bump where you start to lose power, quickly.  I reached inside my mind and began visualizing my form – what my body looked like as I swam, the strong wide back of an Olympic swimmer, the narrow torso, body lean and strong.  Next I visualized my style – making sure I was paying close attention to my technique and elegance as I pulled through the water, I imagined someone watching me. Lastly I visualized my power – myself as incredibly strong, feeling no resistance, reaching and pulling through the water with great physical resources at my disposal.  And sure enough, I was back on track, creating a wake behind me (or so I imagined)!  OK, I know I am a little crazy but afterwards on the elliptical machine I realized this visualization technique can help me with weights and body building too.  I plan to work on that.  Today was a rest day, tomorrow is weights so I will test my theory! My thought for today was, my mind controls the body, not the other way around!

My first time ever with the “weight lifting belt”….

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

because I decided I should enter my lifting stats.  It was my first time ever to try out the belt and do the barbell bench press, barbell squat, barbell deadlift, barbell curl, barbell bent over row, seated barbell military press!  I don’t really know any benchmarks for the results, but it was a lot of fun!  And I am proud of the fact that I can almost barbell squat my own body weight for 8 reps!  I still feel pumped!

Some days you have to dig deep…..

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

And today was one of those!  Unexpected yucky shit that just tries to pull you down, by the time I got to the gym I felt like going home.  But I dug really deep and refused to let that stuff invade the wonderful positive life that I have! So I proceeded to do a one of the hardest upper body work outs ever, using the simple but effective technique my new trainer taught me, increasing the weight each set and reducing the reps.  OK, even I was impressed at my buldging muscles by the end of it!  Other personal trainers even gave me a few free tips on techniques which is really appreciated.  Tomorrow is another day…….and today I say, Gracias a Dios!  (thanks be to God)!

Every Beginning has a First Step!

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

Howdy!  This is my first Blog Post!  Today I felt like crap after a bad nights sleep but after a few rays of sunshine at the pool I managed to swim 1km & practice my tumble turns.  Then up to the gym for a short warm up with my ipod.  Today I had a personal training session for my lower body.  We worked on heavy weights with low reps to build up my legs and butt.  I am not used to working with heavier weights, in the past I have been a big rep person.  So I am trying to teach myself new mental skills - like using my breathing as a physiological trigger. Breath 1: relax Breath 2: focus and set Breath 3: release adrenaline and PUSH!  I did notice some increase in POWER!!! Yipeeeeeeeeeee!!!!  ps. the mental stuff is of my own making up but hey it works!

Welcome!
