Still a beast

Friday, March 16th, 2007

Made some workout and nutrition changes that should tighten things up over the next few weeks.  No doubt the champ will be off the ropes by then.  My daddy used to tell me that you need to get hit in the mouth sometimes just to show everybody (including yourself) that you can get back up.  I’d rather be the one doing the knocking out…  I got some other things on the horizon so it time to make it happen.  To those with the words of encouragement… Thanks and God Bless.  To those with the other words.  God Bless you too.  You just gave the dog a bone…

Regroup, but don’t retreat

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

I just read a quote that made so much sense to me by Mark Twain.  "Honesty is the best policy… when there’s money in it."  I have taken a look at myself as well as sought out some input from other people.  I definitely got humbled at the Arnold a couple of weeks ago.  And I don’t ever want to do things half way.  As a result, I am going to forgo the NPC Natural Ohio and set sites on the NPC Pittsburgh Show on the weekend of May 5th.

Yeah, I’m hearing it.  Mostly from people who have never competed before  :)   But, like I said earlier.  I can’t do things half way if I want to hit the goals I have set.  So, get ready for more progress pics.  Stay tuned for more posts.  Watch the hardware begin to stack up as a result.  It’s on…

Arnold Classic Debrief

Arnold Classic Debrief

We won’t get the official score sheet for at least a couple of weeks, but I am guessing that I placed 13th out of 16.  I haven’t taken a beat down like that since I wrote my name on my mom’s bedroom wall with her lipstick.  I have to first give it up to my fellow competitors.  They were heavy duty.  Secondly, some tactical errors kept me from moving up a few spots.  If you look at the pictures on my bodyspace page, I looked great 24 hours before the show (Relatively speaking-I have definitely been leaner in the past).  I changed my water depletion cycle from previous shows and probably peaked a few hours too early.  Also, right after I started carb/sugar loading the morning of the show.  Any drop of water I had in me rose to the surface.  I spoke to Yohnnie Shambourger (IFBB pro) after the prejudging.  He suggested that maybe I should have just went with my gut and forgone the carb load.  Man- that was a slap in the mouth.

As a result, here are a few of the adjustments I plan to make:

  • I have to lean out another 2% - 3%, even if I lose some size.
  • In the off season, I will not go above 9% - 10% bodyfat.
  • I have rubbed the competition slate clean.  I will take 3 days off and then focus on the NPC Natural Ohio (four weeks away).  After that, we will see.
  • I have to get back to what got me where I was 5 years ago (in the archives)
