Bench Press alert<!-- -->

Did 2 reps of 265 Lbs today on bench press!!  And 1 rep with help on the bench press!!  Feeling good.  Decide to not do bench press for a week or so and than see what happen.  Good things happen to those who wait!!

 Things are coming along great.  Execpt for I ripped or torn something in my left lat last week doing my back workout.  Not to bad.  But will have to take it easy on the back until it heals.

 Did back and just chest press today.  I prefer to do chest press as a stand along exercise.  Really works well for me that way!!

    Owwww….OUCH! TORN something?!?!! You are so non-chalant about it. Be careful, please. My stubborn self was trying to do "quarter-turns" insisting that the reconstruction of the torn ACL could wait. Beside I had a show that I was missing. {lol - but true}. Best wishes on your SAFE workouts! ~Dawn Melanie

    I’m with Melanie on this one…from my own youthful insistence that injuries were not that big of a deal and worth the risk to get big, well, that stuff comes back to haunt you forever…my understanding of it is that scar tissue and normal tissue form a juncture that is never as strong as the original tissue. So you are always compromised somewhat. And I can also say the older you get, the easier it is to hurt yourself, and the longer it takes to recover. I think the biggest help for me personally was taking warming up seriously, and carefully starting my workouts with light sets, and moving into heavy weights in a stepping stone manner; in other words, not going from 50 pounds to a hundred pounds, or whatever. There is also the consideration that muscles will grow faster than tendons and ligaments; I don’t know if that’s true, but it seems that I read that on this site somewhere in an article. The way you are going up in weight so fast, you might want to look in to that. It would really be a shame for you to have your excellent progress interrupted by an injury.

    Actually, that’s not true. Scar tissue tends to be stronger cohesively, but it doesn’t function like the tissue it’s replacing (so if it’s replacing muscle tissue then the contractile strength is lessened as there are fewer contractile fibers!).

    Muscles do get stronger faster than your ligaments adjust to the new load, though, so warm-up sets are good and periodic training where you’re letting them catch up is good.

    My big thing is form form form! Go SLOW (people always jerk the weight around and wonder why they get hurt). It’ll hurt your ego a little ’cause you can’t lift as much, but the muscular development is amazing.

    My rehab person. Who I spent 8 months with 3 times a weeks. Give me a good schedule to follow!! So I have been taken it easy on it and buliding up slowy. Much more slowly than before I broke it!! Slow and steady does win the race here!! That I will agree with you all on!!
