BODY FAT %

When i put my body fat % in to the system 4 weeks ago i put in 17.6%, however i have just bought some calipers and measured the %, it measured at 25%, i thought i must be doin this wrong, however i have just went out and bought electric ones, always a bit dubious about electric stuff but i tried it anyway cos it was only £5 from a cash converter, and when i done the % on there it also came up at 25%, therefore i have come to the conclusion that my Body Fat % is much higher than i thought, anyway if you read this Blog can you do me a favour pleae, look at my photos and tell me if 25% looks about right.

Thanks

I’m sceptical about body fat percentage measurement devices. There is always always always a degree of error in any reading you take from your body, and as everybody is put together differently, there is always going to be a slight margin of error.

I use a calculator at http://www.bmi-calculator.net/body-fat-calculator/ not to work out my body fat % but to show me an overall loose view of how my body composition is improving. A few months ago I tried it and it said I had 35% body fat, then I built a lot of muscle and burnt off some fat, so it has decreased to my current level of around 21%.

I have used other methods of measuring my body fat percentage, but they all give different readings. The most important thing - in my opinion - is to use one method to measure your body fat, and then stick to it.

On a side note, one of my friends has been losing fat, and in stead of calculating his body fat% he’s been recording his caliper measurements and watching them go down.

The bottom line is if you’re feeling better about yourself and you are physically improving (tape measure) then that’s all that matters.

[If you want my opinion, I’d put your body fat % closer to 15% than 30%.)
