Sunday-November 30, 2008-The Tuck Planche! LOL!

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

Greetings everyone! Today was just a planche training day. I started working on the Tuck Planche (It is described in an earlier post in my blog-November 16th Post). I was honestly afraid of “failure.” The good news is that I can ACTUALLY HOLD MYSELF UP IN THE AIR! The bad news is that I can hold myself up for about 6 seconds at a time. Actually, the training that I’m following says that this is “normal.”  It was a strange sensation and required a lot of arm strength and after a few times my arms were shot. I also continue to include frog stands (this might account for some of the exhaustion). I decided to do the training on tomorrow as well. I need to build up more strength and endurance!

It is raining like crazy here so no progress pictures yet. I also have to do more to secure my pull-up bar in place so no pull-ups, etc. until Tuesday.

Now that the initial fear of not having enough strength to hold the tuck planche is over, I’m determined to do what I need to do to master the position. When I’m able to hold it for 30 seconds, I will post a picture. Wish me luck!

Have a great week everyone! Let’s get after it!

Here’s what I did today:

Planche Training

Frog Stand:

2 x 1.0 minute

Tuck Planche:

5 x 6 seconds each

Pseudo Push-ups:

1 x 45

Friday, November 28th, 2008

I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving! I worked out on yesterday and feasted yesterday afternoon! I got up this morning and completed my last workout of the week. I’ve completed two weeks of the new six-week cycle and think this new cycle has been very good as far as changes I see in my body. I will post my workout for the next two weeks in the workout section.

Today, I worked chest and back and, once again, integrated the planche workout into my regular workout. This seems to be a good indicator of the strength I’ve gained as well because I am doing the frog stand directly after I’ve completed the sets of my other exercises. I’ve gained strength and can see subtle changes in my upper body. The workout is worth the effort. This Sunday, I will probably be falling all over the place as I attempt the tuck planche! LOL!

I managed, in spite of yesterday’s feasting, to do the 3 mile run in 25:02! I’m happy with the progress I’m making with my running.

I will post progress pictures on either Sunday or Monday, depending on how tight my schedule is.

Today, I’m going to take advantage of the warm weather and put up the pull-up bar. I’ve been missing that part of my new workout cycle and will have to make it up next week.

Everyone have a great weekend!

Thursday-November 27, 2008-Happy Thanksgiving!

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

I had a great workout! Today I work abs, which is ironic, since many of us will be trying not to ruin ours with all of the wonderful food that will be served today.  I did my planche training and had a very good run. I did the two miles in 17:00 today in spite of being a little tired from all of my running around yesterday.

I am thankful that I have a roof over my head, good food to eat, loving family, loyal friends, fulfilling work,  and the ability to move around and challenge myself physically! I hope that you and yours are blessed as I have been and that you enjoy your Thanksgiving!

Wednesday-November 26, 2008

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Wednesday’s are always rough. With Thanksgiving on tomorrow, I guess I earned my title as family errand boy. I took Grandma to her doctor’s appointment and did some light shopping for her. Squeezed the leg workout in between 2 and 3:30 pm today. Went to provide therapy with a kid and did MORE shopping for my mother. LOL! Anyway, I’m exhausted, but glad I got the workout in.  I tried something new with my planche training. I held a 1 minute frog stand after each circuit of my leg exercises. It is getting easier to get into and hold the position. Definitely time to move to the next level.

The cardio went well, although I could have pushed harder. I’m thankful that I got through the day and look forward to some sleep tonight and my Thanksgiving workout on tomorrow!

Here is what I did today:

3 x 30 Squats

3 x 30 Seated Calf raisers

3 x 30 Lunges

3 x 30 1-Leg Squats

3 x 30 1-Leg Calf raisers

Frog Stand:

3 x 1.0 minute

Pseudo Push-ups:

1 x 40

Yet another blog is missing. I won’t spend a great deal of time trying to recreate it. Here’s just a brief recap. I had a very good workout. I worked abs. I always work push-ups into these workouts. Additionally, I did the first day of planche-training for the week. It is definitely time to move on to mastering the tuck planche. There is fear of failure and excitement. I’m not sure how long it will take to master, but I will post a picture as soon as I am able to hold the position. Cardio was good. I ended the workout with around a 17:12 two mile run.

3 x 100 Reverse Crunch

Monday-November 24, 2008

Monday, November 24th, 2008

I worked my arms today. I had planned to be doing chin-ups as part of the workout. Still haven’t got the pull-up bar in place. Believe it or not, it has been too cold to pour the cement to secure the posts. Once in place, I will make up that part of my workout.

No planche training today. That resumes on tomorrow. I had a great run today. I did three miles in 24:36 which is getting close to a personal best for me! Overall it has been a good start to the week. I certainly hope everyone else is having a good start to their week.

I took some more progress pictures and will be posting them. I can never seem, however, to take a picture that accurately captures my progress from the front. LOL! I know that I will have to purchase a better camera. But, I’ve made a great deal of progress in the past two weeks. The diet remains good and I’ve been rather focused.

Here is what I did today:

3 x 15 Hammer Curls

3 x 15 Overhead Triceps Extensions

3 x 15 Military Press

3 x 15 Upright Rows

3 x 15 Front Dumbbell Raises

Sunday-November 23, 2008

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

Today was simply planche training. It was astonishing how my shoulder and upper body strength has increased. I was really able to tell the difference with the rest. Although a little scared of failure, I’m looking forward to trying to master the next position starting after I complete this week’s training.

I also took some progress pictures. I apologize in advance for the quality. I was completing paperwork for my job (this has to come first) and missed the best light of the day. I may snap a few more pictures on Monday. I’m not displeased with how I look. I do want to work more on my chest and back. Both seem to be getting better.

I also am ready to put up the pull-up bar and will be working on it tomorrow! I’m excited about that.

Here’s what I did today:

Planche Training

Frog Stand:

3 x 1.0 minute with 2 minutes rest between each.

Pseudo Push-ups:

1 x 40

(I did 5 extra!)

My run was 27:00 minutes (3 miles) in spite of the fact that it was very windy on Friday. Planche training continues to go well. I can now feel a detectable difference in my upper body strength. The new ab workout kicks butt! Nothing like a few new exercises to get a new challenge. I performed the exercises as a circuit. These exercises will strengthen my core and, hopefully, sharpen my abs. I would, however, recommend 10-15 seconds rest between each exercise. If anyone reading this tries the ab workout. Give me some feedback (directions for the exercises are in one of my previous blogs). Planche training continues and I’m feeling better about my strength gains in the upper body.

I also had a very good run. The two mile run is getting better. This is the second time I’ve run it in 18:00 minutes. So, I think I can begin working on bringing the time down. If it is not too cold tomorrow, I will put up progress pictures. I’ve got to pick up the old car and head out to do some therapy with one a kid later this after noon, so I take my leave until tomorrow!

Here’s what I did today:

(Circuit w/2 minutes rest)

3 x 50 Push-ups

3 x (2 x 10)

Cross-Body Mountain Climbers

3 x 1.0 min-Side Plank

3 x (2 x 10) Spider Man Push-up

3 x 1.0 min Front Plank

3 x 1.0 min. Evacuations

3 x 50 Push-ups

<u />

3 x 1.0 minute

with 2 minutes rest between each set.

Pseudo Push-ups:

Wednesday-November 19, 2008

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Today was a disaster in some ways! The car died and will set me back over $300.00! I paid all of my bills for the month and thought I had some disposable income. LOL! Anyway, it kills the mood to work out, but I pushed and finally finished the workout. I worked legs, did planche training, and my 3 miles with the backpack. I will have to rethink the backpack thing and will probably look for a weighted vest at some point. The high point was definitely my planche training. It seems my strength increased. I was able to do the three holds and not feel as if I were about to fall out of the position. So, I may integrate working toward the tuck planche in with the usual workout.

Not much more to say today except I hope everyone had a great day and an even better workout.

Heres what I did today:

3 x 15 Squat Thrusts

3 x 15 Calf raisers- On Bricks

3 x 15 Overhead Squats

3 x 3.0 min. Walking Calf raisers

Planche Training:

Frog Stand:

3 x 1.0 minute

with 2 minutes rest between each hold

Pseudo Push-ups:

1 x 35

Cardio

3 Mile Interval/with weighted backpack
