I’m baaack! So, anyone miss me? I doubt it but that’s ok. I’m sooo glad I took last month off but I’m all recuperated now so it’s time to get back to it. I’m looking forward to lifting again, and lifting heavy, I’m planning to work all summer to achieve those those strength gains that have been eluding me. I will break the 100lb barrier on bench and the 200lb barrier on the squat. I might even start sprinting again, it’s kind of sad that I missed doing all those sprint drills but I was amazed by how well it worked, especially my legs and glutes. And I will be buckling back down on my diet, I kind of let it slide for a few weeks. Anyhoo, time to get cracking!

So I competed in the intramural track meet this glorious morning. I’m happy, I ran the best 100m time I’ve ever run in my life, 14.8 seconds. I’m impressed with myself, I never thought I could ever run that fast, and the funny thing is, I think I can still do even better. I’m seriously thinking about doing it again next year, but for now, I need a break. I’ve been working out hard this semester because I had the time and I’m really happy with how my body has responded- in the last 4 months I’ve conquered the pullup and I’ve added 5-10 pounds to all of my lifts. But I’m feeling really rundown lately and I think I’m getting a little burned out so I’m going to tone my workouts down for a while and maybe consider what I want to do next, I don’t really have a goal for the summer but I want one. I was thinking of maybe benching my bodyweight, I think I’m almost there, maybe someone can suggest something for me to chase. But for now, time to relax and enjoy the rest of the semester (finals) and look forward to the upcoming trip to Cancun (yay!). Ooo, sandy beaches sound soooo good right now. Toodles!

My workout this morning, I was back on the normal track for this:
10 minutes warmup
10 minutes for start drills
30 minutes for speed drills, 6 x 8 x 50m, 4 x 4 x 100m, 2 x 2 x 200m
15 cooldown jogging and stretching
Just a few days left to be all nervous and antsy, ahhh, what a feeling!

Greek Week ended with a big huzzah today, it’s too bad because it was a blast and we raised a fair amount of money for charity. My sorority (AXD) took 2nd overall, our victory in the flag football tournament helped loads. I didn’t make as much difference as I thought it would. I kind of had visions of me catching the ball and then blazing past the entire team leaving a fire trail behind me. Kind of silly, right? Almost as silly as my visions of me dragging the entire other team into the endzone on my back. Don’t I have the wildest imagination? Until later, cya!

The last few days have been crazy, it’s been one of those weeks. School has been absolutely insane, homeworks and papers everywhere, and have I mentioned how I hate pop quizzes. Whoever invented them should be shot. And it’s Greek Week, sorry I haven’t had the time to write any updates, I’ve been busy as heck, I even skipped my sprint workout this week to participate. I’m not sure how much of it is of any interest to anyone anyways, I’ll just summarize the highlights.
I suck at ping pong. Like really bad. I hit the ball, no problem, but no one mentioned it had to stay on the table. Oops. And for all the eggs I eat, I sure can’t seem to catch one. So much for the egg toss. Splat. It’s funny, for as sportlike as I am, my hand-eye coordination still isn’t very good and it shows.
But what I lack in coordination, I apparently make up for in buffness. I think I mentioned earlier that I was supposed to rep our sorority in the Greek Week Armwrestling contest. Well, I won 4 straight matches to claim the lightweight armwrestling title! I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. I know I’m not the only sorority girl that works out. Apparently though I’m just the only one who works out for strength and it showed, I grudge matched the middleweight champion and handily beat her too! So I’m happy to say I at least did my part for my sorority, those 1st place points made up for my pathetic efforts in all those other events. But we shall not speak of those again.
All I have left to participate in now is the coed flag football games tomorrow. We’ll see if those 8 weeks of sprint training will pay off, I’m looking forward to putting on a speed show. Now I just gotta hope I can catch the ball… hmmm…

Greek week started yesterday with "Campus Beautification Day" and registrations/weigh-ins for the upcoming week’s events. Today was the tug-of-war competition. It’s your average every-day tug of war, where the losers get dumped into the mud pit, it’s a sight to behold. I admit, I was worried that I would still be sore from yesterday but thankfully my legs actually recovered quite well, I must be getting used to it. We managed to win our first two rounds, but we got clobbered in the semi’s and we lost in the consolation round. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed my free mud facials though, ever tasted mud? It doesn’t taste like chicken, but it’s all in good fun and we ended up with 7 points for the event. I’m participating in the ping-pong tournament tomorrow, but I’m cheering section only for the super splash and greek god/goddess contest. It’s fantastic!!!

It’s funny, this morning for some reason, while I doing my uphill sprints, I kinda felt like the Bionic Woman (not the new one, the old one) when she’s running really fast. Not because I was running fast, no, because I was running so slow. You know, in the Bionic Woman, they’d slow everything down, play that funny ying-ying-ying sound and that was supposed to mean she was running really fast? Know what I mean? Well, I had that funny sound running through my head this morning, while I was sprinting up the hill for the 5th or 6th time. Strangely enough, it kinda helped me to keep a more uniform pace up the hill but still is that weird or what? Maybe it’s just me.
I decided to skip the plyo today and concentrate solely on doing uphill sprints, 30 sec per 2 sets of 30m and 2 min rest between sets.
15 minutes warmup and stretching
30 minutes for uphill sprint drills, 12 sets x 30m, 8 sets x 60m (last 2 60m were a killer)
15 minutes cooldown and stretching

I almost forgot, Greek Week 2008 is coming, I’ve been looking forward to it all semester. Greek Week is a springtime event when members of the Greek community come together to raise money for charity (it’s the American Cancer Society this year). Each sorority is paired with a fraternity and together they compete in a variety of events to win points. Typical events are like the tug of war, group sing, egg toss, that sort of thing. Apparently this year there is an armwrestling contest and I’m being tapped because I "workout". I guess it’s not a big deal, it is a same sex competition. Between you and me though if I have to do this I’d almost prefer to take on a guy instead. One, if I lose no big deal it was expected, or two, I somehow win, then I’m some sort of superchick, it’s a win-win situation for me. I really hate to lose, but I guess it will be fun, it’s all for charity right? I’d rather think about playing co-ed flag football instead, I think we have a good chance to do well in that.

One of the guys here suggested I try doing my sprint drills on a hill if I wanted to improve my time faster. So this morning I made some time this morning to hit a local park where there’s a hill, it’s got about a 45 degree grade. After doing 8 weeks of sprint drills at the track, I didn’t think it would be so hard.. I was WRONG!!! The first time I went up, I kinda misjudged and I didn’t get all the way up. I Let me just say that sprinting uphill is alot more demanding on your muscles, heart, and lungs. I haven’t felt a burn like this since I first started training. And I loved every minute of it, especially as I more accustomed to it. I’m hurting like a !@#%!@ right now, but it’ll all be worth it when I cross the finish line in two weeks.
In a nutshell, my workout today:
10 minutes warmup
10 minutes for plyo and start drills
25 minutes for uphill sprintings, 12 sets x 30m, 6 sets x 60m
15 cooldown jogging and stretching

I was running on the indoor track, while I was doing my cool down, I was approached by this older gentleman who says "Hi, you look like you’re in good shape. I’m the coach of the women’s lacrosse team, would you be interested in playing for our team?" It kinda caught me off guard and I think it kinda showed. We talked for a bit, and then I kindly thanked him, but I had to say no. I don’t know the first thing about lacrosse and while I was flattered he thinks I’m in good enough shape to play, I just have too much on my plate right now. But I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it.
So can anyone explain to me what lacrosse is?
