HUMP Day

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

It most certainly feels like it!  I bailed on my workout yesterday and celebrated the holiday.  My husband, a couple of friends and I partied like rockstars!  That’s the thing about getting in shape and partying, something has got to give.  I’ve been hydrating all day and I made it to the gym during gym rush hour.  I put in a fast and furious workout, 45 minutes, back and legs with 30 second rest periods.  I was pressed for time.  I didn’t break out a sweat (yes, I know why), but I could not lift one more of anything once I was done.   I don’t know if there are any benefits to working out a muscle group back to back.  It was something I had to do during gym rush hour, circuit training is impossible.  I stayed away from working my quad, it’s still tender.  I worked around the quad and hit everything else doing different exercises.   I have an hour of cardio coming up in my garage.

Showing Up–Half the Challenge (second day of week 2)

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

I started out my day at 5:45 am this morning and headed to the gym.  I must say, I hate my upper body workout.  It’s daunting, boring, anything but invigorating and it does not make me SWEAT!  I firmly believe, IF YOU AREN’T SWEATING, YOU’RE NOT WORKING!  I tried this great upper body workout in an M&F magazine before my 9 week hiatus and I’ll be going back to it.  My cardio was fantastic.  I broke out a good sweat and completed 5 miles in 60 minutes on the stair master.  Yes, it’s slow, it will only get better from this point on.  My quad is a little sensitive today, I’m not sure about my leg workout on Thursday.

Survived the workout

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

After my first set at the gym, I was pumped!  Coming into my second set, my right quad was so tight I could not finish off my lunges with the weights.  It was bothering me earlier during the week doing everyday stuff around the house, except I didn’t think much of it.  There was no ignoring the discomfort at the gym.  I did without the weights and used my own body weight for the rest of the exercises.  The walking barbell lunges were a no go though.  My 8 year old accompanied me to the gym so I skipped the cardio since he hates to be in the kids area.  I’ll be making it up on Sunday.  Hopefully my leg will be okay by then.  Hey, I still broke out a good sweat even though the workout wasn’t as invigorating as I’d hope it would be.

Gym struggle

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

This is my second week back to working out since a nine to ten week hiatus.  In my time off I managed to go from 97 to pounds to 105 and even up a little to 108 (every now and then).  That is big time for me since I’m 5 ‘1′ and petite.  A three pound increase puts me into the next dress size!  Anyway, I haven’t been to the gym today and I’m not looking foward to it.  The first week was rough.  I’m going though, I’ll take whatever my body has to offer and hopefully some miraculous drive will kick in!
