URGES!!
Okay I’m in training for my 2nd comp and the one thing I crave the most is sugar. I try to tell myself that its only goin to hurt me rather than help and then I make excuses like "but you did so well all wk, you deserve it, one bite wont hurt" Does anyone have any tips to combat these urges? are there safe choices to choose from? I started to much on strawberries with a bit of lite whip cream.

Hey amber, i have to agree with you on that one, DAMN THESE URGES!!! i’m no nutritionist but i’ve read that everything is fine, in moderation. I found out that portion size is most important, so i’m sure a handful of strawberries with lite cream once or twice a week is fine. Also timing should come into consideration, so sugar (or carbs) around your workout shouldnt pose too much of a problem. I’m usually down with low-fat options that contain sweetners, just to keep the cal’s down BUT there is also research that contradicts them. My mentality is everything has side-affects if over-endulged.

I agree on everything in moderation and the "right" times to eat certain foods. I’m just concerned w/ whats goin to hurt me in the long run or set me back in training. I know there is no "secret" to eating clean, I guess i just have to bite the bullet and put mind over matter. But at times the urges can be so great, I think toi myself that I cant be the only competitior that gets these urges and on occassion caves. There has to be an easier way lol

Fruit and well timed complex carbs can help. Other than that, you can always displace your frustrations by abusing your friends.

Maybe you’re not the only competitor that has those urges and caves like you said, but don’t you want to be better than them? Stay strong!

Indulge slightly up until just two weeks before comp: Then tighten up to red level 14….That should keep you looking fine and tight!!

hey how are you, id say allow yourself once a week a very small cheat. whenever i have the urge to cheat, i make a protein shake with a shot of espresso, scoop of cafe mocha whey protein, two packs of spenda, and ice and water……this maybe not be sugar but it gets rid of my craving for something sweet. btw im also training for my second show, im still over 11 weeks out. Its the NPC rocky mountain classic in denver! how many weeks out are you and where are you competing ?
