Step by step ;)

April 7, 2008

It’s been awhile since I’ve updated this. I got thrown off track by life- lots that was going on… But I realize- it’s never going to be easy, life is going to always get in the way- and I can be here a year from now or I can be very close to where I want to be at the end of that same year. SO- with that in mind- no more excuses. I’m just doing what is necessary to get me where I want to be. And it’s going very well so far ;) I’m already down 3lbs and counting.

I have my workout schedule set up-

M- Weight training, walking, abs and bellydance

T- Tai Chi and walking

W- Weight training, walking and abs

Th- Deep water aerobics (it’s amazing how this will kick your ass and you don’t even realize it at the time cuz you’re having too much fun ;) )

F- Weight training, walking, abs and ballroom dancing class with the hubby (starting this week!)

S- Rest day- (recreational activity- play in the park- etc.)

S- Gym (walking)

I also have my diet under a tight rein- 1800 squeaky clean calories with a 40/40/20 split. I have a M/W/F meal plan and a T/Th meal plan and then on the weekend I mix and match from the weeks meals with one cheat meal (reasonable portions/macros etc. not a binge meal ;) )

I’m also experimenting with recipes from Tosca’s Eat Clean Cookbook. I tried making a whole wheat bread recipe, but I think my breadbaking technique needs some work… (But it turned out ‘ok’ and the kids had a BLAST "helping" so… ;) )

Speaking of the kids- I had some corn bread muffin mix laying around and decided to make a gym snack for them… I added some pumpkin puree that was mixed with some protein powder to the muffin mix, crushed up a small dark chocolate bar and baked- the end result was a hit and I’ve got snacks for the gym for the rest of the week ;) I’m thrilled because I snuck in a healthy veggie (pumpkin) and they’re thrilled because they’re yummy and tiny kid-sized muffins ;) Now if only I could sneak spinach into mini kid-muffins… LOL! ;)

That’s all for now- see ya in the forums ;)

Updates and changes

May 18, 2007

It’s been awhile since I’ve written so I thought I’d pop in and update. I’ve changed my diet- the 2200-2400 calories for weight loss wasn’t working, so I lowered it- now I’m working with 2000 calories on workout days and around 1700 on non-workout days. I’m experimenting with carb cycling as well, we’ll see how that goes. I’m also going back to the Weight Watchers meetings and combining this information with the WW plan. (Basically I’m starting a sort of ‘Flex-a-Core’ thing where I’m combining both programs LOL And with the 35 point a week ‘allowance’, I’m breaking it up and adding those to my workout days and one ‘cheat meal’ each week (but I’m using my cheat meal as more of a ‘refeed’- or just for a few extra carbs, because I’m avoiding sugars, sweets, and "junk" of all kinds).

I’m still working out with Karen, the trainer. She’s awesome. I’m debating another 10 sessions just for the motivation- she really pushes me and I want to meet her expectations, so it’s a good deal. We’ll see if the bank account can handle it LOL

I met a gal at the gym the other day- I’d seen her around every time I go in to meet with Karen- she’ll smile at my kids and wave, since she recognizes me when I come in now. So we happened to be in the ladies room together- and got to talking- she told me that she lost about 100 pounds! AND that she’d been in an accident and had to overcome *those* physical issues. I was SOOO impressed and motivated! She’s not just a cardio bunny either- she lifts hard. I hope we get to talk again sometime- she’s really motivating!

Not bad but room for improvement ;)

May 6, 2007

I went out of town for a dentist visit (great dentist, but far away- but I’m a dentist-phobe so it’s worth it) Anyway- I figured I’d be feeling like crap so I brought my own bland soft food that I didn’t have to chew that would work with my diet plan. But they didn’t need to do as much as anticipated and I felt fine- no numbness or soreness, so I ate regular food. I had things planned out but didn’t stick to them, BUT- I did make good, healthy choices overall. Next time though, I want to stick to my plan. I feel more comfortable when I can just check off what I’ve written down and know that it’s on track. Still- for not going with the plan, I think I did very well. I had a bit too much dried mango and papaya from the cool Italian grocery, and I splurged on a skim sugar free hazlenut iced latte and had a tiny tirimisu truffle about the size of a marble, but compared to what *could* have been? I did great LOL! ;)

So far so good!

May 1, 2007

Well, week 1 has come and gone- no pounds lost, but I did lose some inches…. Well, parts of inches anyway. And I increased my weight from last week. AND I’m not as sore after lifting. (BIG plus!) Started taking Glutamine after my workouts as well as 2c. coffee *before* (read some study that says it decreases pain up to 50%. Whether it does or it doesn’t- I drink the stuff anyway and it can’t *hurt*, so… )

Tomorrow will be my 5th session with Karen. I love her. ;) She plays with my kids! After my workout we go into the sports room, she plays ball with the kids while they all cheer me on with my abdominal work ;) It’s great! The kids love the gym- they get so excited when I tell them we’re going. Yeah!

Diet is going good. I decreased calories from 21-2200 to 2000. Gotta see some downward movement on that scale. I know, I know- don’t obsess. I’m not- I just wanna see some real results ;)

Planning so far…

April 22, 2007

My goodness this meal planning thing is complicated LOL! I’m sure it’ll get to be old-hat soon enough, but for now- it’s taken me all damn day to do the math just for MONDAY’s meals LOL! This is sad. ;)

But- on the bright side- I AM doing it. This will get me to my goal. Nothing worth doing is easy- so this must be worth doing LOL ;) Now on to Tuesday’s planning ;)

The Journey to success begins with a single step…

April 21, 2007

Yesterday I called my gym and set up a meeting with a personal trainer. Mostly, since I am just starting out, I want to get familiar with the different machines (I’m familiar with some- the ones I’ve used before, but I want to broaden my familiarity) I also want to get some pointers on using the free weights. If I like her (her name is Karen) then I’ll stay with her for awhile until my routine and my form are comfortable enough to me that I can fly solo.

This weekend I am planning my meals for the upcoming week- sticking to my macros with a refeed day- just to keep my body guessing. (I’ll shave off those calories from two different days to add to my refeed day so that I’m overall still in my macros.
