I’m a little obsessive

Friday, December 5th, 2008

So I came home from work yesterday running a fever of 101, sat down on the sofa and went right to sleep.  I felt really bad because normally I cook and dinner was already in the oven when I got home, but I damn sure wasn’t eating.  My wife is also pregnant so chasing our 18 month old around normally is my duty too when I get home.  Yet another thing to feel bad about.  Well I woke up around 9.  Just in time to have to watch Grey’s Anatomy on the DVR with Cindy, I don’t know which is worse being sick or having to watch that show.  Well I went to get my cell so I could turn the alarms on to wake me up to go to the gym.  Cindy asked "What are you doing?"  So I told her.  She looked at me and said "Are you f@#king crazy?  You’re running a fever and all you’re worried about is getting to the gym in the morning?"  I guess I’m a little obsessed.  Well I didn’t go this morning, but if I’m feeling good this afternoon it’s off to the gym.

If I had my own gym…..

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

…. a freaking gym etiquette class would be a requirement to join.  WTH is wrong with people???  So, I’ve never talk to anyone when I’m working out, but today I snapped on a guy at the gym.  There are 3 squat racks at my gym, spaced side by side with enough room for someone on each to get between and load plates.  So I’m the only one on them this morning and this guy grabs an ez curl bar and stands right next to the rack I’m using to do upright rows.  Really?!?!  There is NO ONE ELSE in the free weight area and you have to come stand in an area close enough that I’m worried about hitting you w/ the bar.

Other lessons include:  How to re-rack your weights, How to wipe down your bench after you use it, and appropriate attire for the gym.

Ugh

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

I hit the gym this morning w/ a splitting headache.  Made me want to puke, but I pushed through anyway.  Today was Abs and Cardio.

Abs Giant Set (no rest between movements, 1-2 minutes rest between sets):

Side Bends w/ Weight over head to the right (much like half moon in yoga): 45 lbs x 12

Oblique Crunches: 12 each side

Side Bends w/ Weight over head to the left (much like half moon in yoga): 45 lbs x 12

Side bends using lower back ext. machine:  12 each side

Cardio:  HIIT on the Eliptical for 30 minutes

Sauna: 30 minutes

Feel good now.  The headache left about 10 minutes in to cardio.

My Parents frustrate the S@#t out of me

Monday, December 1st, 2008

So this may be a bit of a rant, but if anyone has had problems like this I’d appreciate the input.  Let me first say that up until 10 years ago there was no real history of cancer in my family.  Then both my grandparents on my father’s side died from cancer.  My Dad’s aunt is now going through cancer treatment, and my dad had a non cancerous growth in his lungs that made them remove 1/2 of his left lung.  So about a year ago my parents joined a gym.  Yay for them right??  Well yay for my Mom.  My Dad, the one w/ 3/4 of his lung capacity, sits there and lies to the trainer about his fitness level and doesn’t ever use any of the years worth of personal training sessions they bought because he knows what he needs to do.  Which is use 3 machines and not push himself on cardio.  And what’s worse is that he still smokes like a chimney and neither him or my mom see anything wrong with this.  I am really at my wits end about these 2.  Thanks for letting me vent.

Random Thoughts and Today’s Workout

Monday, December 1st, 2008

Such a long weekend yet such a short one.

Work starts in about an hour and I really just don’t want to.  Oh well.  At least I’m working from home today.  My boss wants me to run a billing cycle LSS project, but doesn’t want to include the payment part from AP.  Ummmm.  Excuse me that is where the bottle neck is.  The invoices get to AP just fine, but they don’t go out because there aren’t enough funds allocated to paying them.  I’m supposed to pull a cross functional team and I don’t think she wants the whole company to know how jacked up our accounting is.

I saw myself as a kid today when we were out shopping.  A really chubby little boy who was stuffed into a little league uniform.  I just wanted to go over and shake his parents.  Growing up as a fat kid is not easy.  In fact it’s the only thing I really hold against my parents.  Put some healthy food into that kid.  Take the time to cook dinners.  Make him exercise.  He may resent it now, but he’ll thank you later.  I remember at age 14 telling my Dad I didn’t want a gym membership.  How I wish now that he would have said "Tough S@#t".  The only thing worse is the chubby kids walking around the mall with Super Mario T-shirts on.  Look I understand that parents are out of time these days and have to cut corners, but damn it you’re putting your child at such a disadvantage in life.

Today’s Workout

Squats:  228 x 5 (5 sets)

Bench:  139, 161, 182, 205, 225 x 5

DB Shrugs:  90 x 8 (3 sets)

Ab Giant Set:
