To compete or not to compete…

It’s been on my mind a lot lately, with a shift in goals coming up.  As I come upon my mass gaining period, I ask myself what I’m trying to accomplish and why?  I want to get bigger and add lean mass to my lagging areas. (quads, upper chest, back width) I want to further develop my good parts and areas. (Triceps, back thickness, shoulders)  But the question that remains is why? Or what is my ULTIMATE goal?

I have a handful of friends who’ve competed in the past/present, and they are pushing me towards competition next year.  My wife and family are asking if I’m considering it.  The thing is I don’t know if I want to do it.  Bulking pretty clean, working out, those aren’t problems for me.  It’s the cutting diet that is my nemesis.  I do go weeks at a time and have good intentions, but a cheat meal turns into a cheat day, which evolves in a cheat week!  I don’t want to commit to a contest only to succumb to Burger King in the last week prior.

I guess I wouldn’t mind competing, and the thought is in my head more and more…maybe after my bulk phase, I’ll throw on some speedo’s and run outside and see what kind of response I get!
