Bittersweet Day…

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

Got mixed feelings going on today.  The department had the dedication ceremony for the new fleet of fire engines today and my old house got one of new rigs.  Just over 6 months ago, the old one was wrecked in a fatal accident that killed our driver and a civilian.  I was riding that rig at the time.  The new rig was dedicated to Joe and has his picture etched on both sides.  The ceremony brought a few things from that day to my rememberance, hence the mixed emotions.  I’m happy and grateful to God to be alive with no physical harm existing from that day.  Sometime today, hug your loved ones, call an old friend, write your Mom…tomorrow isn’t promised.

To compete or not to compete…

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

It’s been on my mind a lot lately, with a shift in goals coming up.  As I come upon my mass gaining period, I ask myself what I’m trying to accomplish and why?  I want to get bigger and add lean mass to my lagging areas. (quads, upper chest, back width) I want to further develop my good parts and areas. (Triceps, back thickness, shoulders)  But the question that remains is why? Or what is my ULTIMATE goal?

I have a handful of friends who’ve competed in the past/present, and they are pushing me towards competition next year.  My wife and family are asking if I’m considering it.  The thing is I don’t know if I want to do it.  Bulking pretty clean, working out, those aren’t problems for me.  It’s the cutting diet that is my nemesis.  I do go weeks at a time and have good intentions, but a cheat meal turns into a cheat day, which evolves in a cheat week!  I don’t want to commit to a contest only to succumb to Burger King in the last week prior.

I guess I wouldn’t mind competing, and the thought is in my head more and more…maybe after my bulk phase, I’ll throw on some speedo’s and run outside and see what kind of response I get!

Man, do I miss this…

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

After being a lazy sloth for about 2 WEEKS, I finally made it back to the gym today.  Yeah, after my birthday, I fell into a lazy period, but i’m proud to say I’m back !I did chest, shoulders, and triceps and had a pretty good workout.  I’m currently not on any supps outside of aminos and a multi, so it was all me.  The workout was pretty good and I got a decent pump, but I can tell my strength levels are down.  I’m still coasting until September when things will get HARDCORE!  I almost can’t wait.  The majority of my engine house will be on a 12-16 week bulk period, so I won’t have to worry about going too far off diet while at work.  No pics or stat updates until 9-1-07.

Calm before the storm

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

This month I’ll be working out a little ‘lighter’, almost an ‘off’ month.  Still working out 3-4 times a week, but not heavy sets.  I’ll be sticking with moderate to light weight, good enough to maintain while sorta taking a break.  This is because September will be the start of my bulking season.  I mean CLEAN bulking, not many meaningless pounds.  I’m going to focus early on my legs, back width, and overall chest development.  Cardio will be in the AM on an empty stomach non-workout days. Diet will be roughly the same, but with more quality carbs and a slight increase in protein.  I’m geared up and ready.  Progress to follow…
