Going by how I look

I’m frustrated with all the calculators and numbers out there.  Body fat.  BMI. Weight.  Waist size…  Ahhh!  If you use one your body fat is one thing.  If you use another it’s another (which is why if you look at my stats my body fat just went up.  It was probably wrong the second time I entered it, but I don’t know if it’s right now).  If you pinch one way you get one reading and if you’re dehydrated you get another reading.  What do all these numbers mean?  Weight is meaningless.  Most bodybuilders would be obese by BMI stadards because their weight to height ratios are so high.  Even if they have very low bodyfat.  Even under the most generous standards my weight is supposed to be in the 150s.  Maybe it’s true and I do have a big frame and am pretty musclular, but 150 pounds is 45 pounds from where I am now (and yes I am SO psyched to be under 200 pounds for the first time in 20 years) and I know I have more weight to lose, but 45 more pounds seems like a lot and I don’t think I would look very good that thin.  I’m all for lean and tight, but I don’t think those formulas mean much to me.  When I lose 20 to 25 more pounds I think I will look pretty awesome.  But bottom line I’m just going to have to go by what I look like and how I feel.  These numbers just make me confused and I don’t trust them anyway.  From the begining my trainer told me to ignore weight and banned me from the scale.  He’s right.

That is the key girl, the mirror and your clothes. I have maintained the same weight for the last three weeks ( mass gain), but what I do know is that I just picked up clothes from the tailor that had to be taken in 3 1/2 inches at the waist. What does that tell you! Ditch that scale girl. It can break your spirit; no need for it! And yes, by BMI standards, I am considered obese! Congrats on the weight loss. You go girl!

The human body isn’t supposed to be flat and streamlined. The muscles aren’t shaped that way. Most people look flat because of an extreme lack of protein and nutrients. Normal nutrition is malnutrition.

Fitness shouldn’t be about being lean and slender. It should be about external developement.

I rely on 3 things. Eyes, scale weight, and tape measurements. Nothing more, nothing less. I don’t care what my bf% is. There’s only 3 settings of Body Fat to me. Low, Medium, and High. I’m at medium now, I want low. That is all!

    Keep on keepin on!

I go by my clothes. If they’re snug I need to change something, if they’re hanging off of me then I’m doing something right irregardless of what the scale reads.

    damned right!

Yes, indeed. I pretty much use the scale to see what my ‘baseline’ is. The mirror, measurements, my performance in the gym, and how I feel tell me alot more.

too true… i have been cutting for weeks, doing well and seeing changes. weighed myself today… and i am 3lbs more than i was when i STARTED my cut. i don’t know why, i don’t NEED to know why, i just need to stay the **** off the scale and admire the newfound definition in my stomach :)
