Rotating shifts Suck!
Thought I’d do a light leg workout yesterday with my sister and darn if I didn’t start feeling some knee pain on the hacksquats. TGIF, that’s all I can say. ALthough it really has no meaning for me. That acronym only has meaning for people who work a 9-5 m-f job, which I have never worked. My fridays are really saturday nights. At least for this month.
I’ve been trying desparately to get permanent shifts at work with permanent off days. Don’t care what hours I work, what days i’m off - I just want a routine that lasts longer than 4 weeks. Sooo, there’s a scheduled meeting wednesday to discuss this possibility. My question is - what the hell is there to discuss? Anyone can do a search on rotating schedules as it relates to health and be reading for days on. I’d really like to kick the ass of the idiot whoever came up with a rotating work schedule. My guess is that that person never had to work that shift for any length of time.
I try to tell the new guys at work that everything is cumulative. That the stress of the job, crazy hours, stress from above, it all adds up after awhile. It just builds and builds then all of the sudden your health has gone to shit, you have high blood pressure and worst of all, its affecting your workouts! You can’t go to the store and buy a colon cleanse for that kinda crap!
Unfortunately I will not be able to attend with the rest of my co-workers but I have forwarded what I would have presented in my support of a permanent shift. All I can do is sit back and await the outcome . Although some of my co-workers are young and don’t yet realize the importance of consistency in sleep and work.

Been there - done that - didn’t like it. Before I left the force we were working perminent shifts (7 days on then rotating 2,3 or 4 days off). Now, the dept. is so short staffed they are working 12 hour shift. They rotate every 6 months. Glad I got out when I did.
Take care of the knee.
