Scars in figure competitions

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

I have a question - I have a scar from a childhood injury.  I have actually been considering entering a figure competition next year, but I need to know if that scar would hurt my scores.  I have a couple of pictures in my photo gallery.  I’d love to hear from anyone who would know.

I haven’t been thin for a long time, but I seem to recall that the thinner I am, the worse it stands out.  It’s not a scar on the skin, but the muscle under the skin was damaged.

Having a goal of entering a competition would really help me reach my goals.  I put on muscle pretty easily, it seems to me.  The diet is the hard part.

I’ve uploaded new pictures.  I may look thinner, but I think it’s just that we’re getting better at taking pictures!

I have to tell my friend how much I weigh on the 4th of July - so it’s strict diet until then!!!  I will post my weight on that day, too!  Scary!

Have a great week everyone!

Getting Better

Monday, June 16th, 2008

Well, sending my diet to a friend every evening is working.  I am doing better.  Being busy also helps me most of the time and I am very busy this week.  I just got home from band practice, work tomorrow, gigs Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week, then try to recover and get ready for camping.  My goal is to eat 90% right and not miss a workout.  Tomorrow will be the hard one, but if I can’t get there early, at least I can go after work.  I usually work until 8 on Tuesday, but this week I’m done at 6.

I really notice that I eat when I’m stressed.  I need to find a better way of dealing with it.  We had a tiff at band practice that adds to the stress.  Our new drummer isn’t working out, so we need to start looking again.  But that’s not a reason for me to eat!!!  Everyone has stress in their life, we just need to learn to deal with it in a healthy way.  Prayer helps!  It really does.  I need to remember that.

Have a wonderful week everyone.

Change is good!

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

Okay, so posting my diet isn’t working.  It’s too easy not to do it if I’ve had an embarassing day!  So, I’m changing back to what was working pretty well before.  I’m going to send my diet to a friend every night.  I know he’ll read it and I’ll be embarrassed if it’s bad.  He’s kind, but will be disappointed if I don’t stay on track.

I think I have another issue going on as well.  I’ve had a couple of male friends mention that the better I look, the more men will flirt and hit on me.  Because of some previous bad experiences with guys, that’s pretty scary for me.  Does anyone else deal with that?  I think I often sabotage myself so I can continue to be invisible.

It’s hard to believe that I do that, but I do.  I was an opera singer.  I always thought that I loved being the center of attention.  I still sing and am very comfortable in front of crowds.  But I guess I like them to love my voice, not necessarily love how I look.  People who like my voice like to sit back and listen to me sing.  But I don’t know what to expect from a man who really likes the way I look.  Hm… I think I’ll need to deal with this before I’ll be able to reach my goal weight.  I know I’m attractive the way I am, but pretty safe.  Looking better is scary.

I’d love to hear from any other ladies who have dealt with this.

Have a great week.

Monday diet

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

As promised, here’s my diet for Monday.  Feel free to comment, I need the accountability.

7:30 water with MSM

Lower body workout (a side note:  My husband and I used a squat machine and he only does 20 pounds more than me, but when we went to a free weight leg press machine he put on 100 pounds more than me.  I can’t figure out why it’s so different.)

9:00 2 eggs, 1 cup frozen Asian veggies, salsa, 1/4 cup plain low-fat yogurt, 2 pieces Ezekial bread toast with butter

11:00 Whey shake in water with 1 cup strawberries, 1/4 cup yogurt, 1 TB flax oil, 1TB ground flax seed

12:00 1/2 serving beef roast, 1 TB peanut butter, 1 TB fruit spread (I had the munchies so bad!!!)

2:00 2 baked chicken thighs, salad with sprouts, walnuts, raw sunflower seeds, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and clover sprouts and homemade dressing (flax oil, lemon juice and apple cider vinegar)

5:00 Myoplex drink

7:30 1/2 cup raw veggies, 1/4 cup shrimp with onions & mushrooms and 1/4 cup beef roast (Yeah!  I skipped the white rice and cake!)

9:30 3 whole grain Saltines

10:00 creatine shake with MSM

Well, there it is.  Almost on the straight and narrow.  Tomorrow should be even better.  I do well when I’m away from home IF I make my meals to take with me.  I better do that before I go to bed!

Have a great day!

I’m half done

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

I’m half-way through the Body for Life Challenge.  I’m real pleased with my progress on muscle building, but the diet…..well, let’s say, the system works, I just need to stick with it.  My goal is to lose 10 pounds or more by the end of the challenge.

I am almost 100% over the shingles.  I only missed two workouts.  I’m pleased about that.  It messed up my diet, too.  But it’s Monday morning, a great time to get back on track.  Yesterday was supposed to be the day to get on track, but too many temptations at church and the movies!

So, I’ll start blogging my diet every night again.  That really helped me stay on track.  You’re welcome to comment on my diet.  Knowing someone may read it really helps keep me on the straight and narrow!

Thanks for all the support!  It’s really helping.
