is a protein shake a proper breakfast?
My goals are to loose weight and currently i dont eat breakfast if i do its something out of a vending machine. I am curious if a protein shake would be a proper breakfast, note i dont work out till after 5 pm so now sure how that plays in or if it does at all.

1st) Not eating anything is worse than having something with a bit too much in carbs. As strange as it may sound, YOU HAVE TO EAT to lose weight. Especially after sleeping all night & no food in the system. The body will slow down the metabolism & use up protein instead of fat stores.
2nd) You have to stop the vending machine. Crap food. You have to fuel the body with healthy choices. Start preparing & bringing food from home. I bring enough food to eat every 2-3 hrs throughout the day. It takes time & prep, but that’s a price you’ll have to pay to lose BF and be healthy.
3) Protein shakes should be fine, just remember to be having small meals every 2-3 hrs. Shakes make good replacement meals, but you also need to eat real food as well (green veggies & lean meats).
Good luck & I hope this helps ya. Now stay away from that vending machine!!

Those are good choices. Or take them to work for a meal during the day. Remember, every 2-3 hrs, eat a small meal. You’ll be less likely to be hungry & go for something unhealthy.
And don’t call me sir! I’m not THAT old yet.

no question its better than nothing. And depending on your goals, definitely better than something out of most vending machines! in the mornings i like to have more of a "meal replacement" type shake if i am in a hurry. some good carbs, fat and protein.. something like a scoop or 2 of whey powder, a banana and a half cup of raw oats with nonfat milk blended up with ice is really easy. Your entire diet "plays into" everything no matter what time you work out. getting breakfast will give you energy, boost your metabolism and best of all keep the growling stomach at bay. but dont just take my word for it. there are some great breakfast articles on bb.com:

Only PLAIN yogurt. Most others have to much sugars (simple carbs), which are the evil to stay away from. I would add some fresh fruit to it, flax seed, protein powder, etc. Personally, I’d eat some nuts & an apple with it, or something similar. Perhaps a banana & a spoon of NATURAL peanut butter (no sugar added, which all main brands have, almost with preservatives). A yogurt wouldn’t fill me up…..I’d still be hungry.

check this out,1 can of steamed tomatoes=135 calories,1 cup of pasta about 155 calories,1 can of tuna in water=150calories,6 oz. of grilled or rosted chicken breast=about 300 calories. With just those ingredients alone you can have a very filling, tasty, just about no fat meal, whitch will only amount to around 450 calories with the tuna and less than 600 calories with 6 oz. of chicken.Trow in some salad,no dressing, between those meals and the fat will melt away.Good luck.

Breakfast - Think oatmeal. One cup plain old quaker oats, one cup water - nuke it for 1 minute, sprinkle Stevia [non chemical based sweetener] and cinnamon for taste and consume. It is a great source of high fiber carbs and it will fuel you through the morning way better than a protein shake which will not last long in your stomach. Shoot for whole foods. Protein shakes are OK after a workout, but when you first get up [within a half hour of your feet hitting the floor] shoot for whole food. It will ramp up your metabolism and make you feel a lot more awake than the usual cup of joe.
