Sushi 4 protein…huh?

September 9, 2009

Alright. I need some input from all you great people out there. So currently my protein staple is either organic chicken, turkey, or wild caught fish–expensive but worth it. No beef, no pork, no shrimp, nada. If you do some research, you can find out why pork is not a good ‘white’ meat. Anyways, I was wanting to add some other types of protein source to the table, and thought about sushi. I know raw fish is better than cooked since its full of enzymes, plus, I love me a spicy tuna roll lol. I know I would have to ditch the white rice.  Anyone got any thoughts, experience, or ideas on it. Thanks guys ;)

Weekend Family Run!!

July 27, 2009

So this weekend I was pretty much chill. Not too much went on. But this past Sunday I convinced my two older sisters, and brother-in-law to go for a run with me. I was feeling kinda lazy; even though it was my rest day I still wanted some activity lol. It was about 8 o’clock and still about 75+ degress out so it was good weather(gotta love SoCal weather!). That 40 min. run worked up a good sweat and I was soo glad that I went and even more happy that I got some of family members to go with me. Suprisingly they kept up, seeing how none of them excercise regularly haha. Now every Sunday we are going running as a group. I could use the extra cardio too so its a win/win situation.

Since I’ve started the whole fitness lifestyle 150% about a year ago, I’ve noticed alot of my relatives really taking interest in it. One time I found frozen organic berries, all natural peanut butter and raw almonds in my sister’s house. Her kids love Lucky Charms mind you. But whenever I have dinner at there house they’re little scavengers lol–I bring my own food.  Change is contagious.

Here’s to the weekend family runs and eating clean!!

Keepin it G,

Eric

Strong Live the Legs Update!

July 20, 2009

Just a quick recap. Basically, it was a challenge to myself and wanted to do a higher rep and higher height of box jumps. Currently was doing 3 sets x 15-20 reps at a 2.5 ft height. That was tough already! The new scheme to try was 3 x 20 or more reps at 3-3.5 feet–first it was just 3ft but I got a big ego lol. So after doing my other regular leg exercises(leg extensions, leg curls, and seated calf raises), I get my stacks ready to go, pick my song of choice to get me pumped(Say This Sooner by The Almost, works everytime!). Start the first set. Got up to 15 the first time, not bad, but not what I wanted. Only a minute rest in between. Second was up to 13. Not looking good.  Last set was up to 13. Holy ****. That…was…the…hardest…leg exercise I have ever done and  after that it was off to some leg presses, phew!. Good thing is I didn’t pass out, but I couldn’t really walk right lol and my form didn’t lag. This Friday I want to try again cuz I know I can do em. It’s all in the mind, its all in the mind. We’ll see…Be safe out there everybody and burn it up!

Peace.

Eric

Strong Live the Legs!!

July 17, 2009

So today is leg day and one of the great excercises I really like doing is box jumps. For those who don’t know how, basically, get a flat, sturdy bench or the like( I use those stackable aeorbic steps) at about 2 feet high and you squat all the way down, and explosively jump on top of the bench, jump down and repeat. This realllly gets me legs pumping. Lately I’ve been going as hi as 2.5 feet feet and bust out 3 sets of 18-20 reps, but todaaaay, I’m gonna go for 3 feet and bust out the same amount or more…anyone wanna join me lol? Wish me luck and I’ll let u know if I passed out lol. Happy n safe trainin er’ body. =)

BIG Eezzy out.

Blessed I can lift..

July 7, 2009

and surprises come swift. Do work, do work, no wait, yeah, stop until you can’t.  Start again. Push harder. Push faster. Push more. Don’t hurt until it stops. Don’t stop until it hurts.

One of my friends had a disease called hypoxia and didn’t even know it. This 24 year old, crazy, partying rich kid thought he had his life ahead of him, but one night changed it all. His friends rushed him to the hospital and the next day he slipped into a two month coma. Crazy thing is I was supposed to be at his house the night it happened. After hearing the news I kept thinking to myself, how much I had because I could walk and talk, and lift and hurt, and push myself to the limits, while he was having to learn how to walk again after he awoke from the coma. The guy is a true inspiration because he still hits the gym 4 days a week, wants more than most and is finally learning to walk after a year and a half of therapy. He’s come a looonng way and really has grown as a person.

Now I really don’t take what I have for granted, because you really don’t what you have until its gone. This body won’t live forever but I am sure as heck gonna make it live for today!

Liking leg days?

June 23, 2009

I just have to get this off my chest…So I’m sitting idly at work(shh don’t tell my boss lol) and I realllly wanna hit the gym. This is weird because today is legs or lower body day and I usually don’t look forward to them—who does right lol. One excercise I really hate doing near the end of the workout are dumbell lunges, which is probably because I think there never gonna end. I do 15-18 per leg with 35lbs dumbell weight in each hand for three sets each leg. Maaan, do I hate ‘em…but their really effective and I’ve really had to push myself with these ones so the madness will have to continue and I mean c’mon who doesn’t like that raw burning sensation of lactic acid build up, seriously who? Plus, the added benefit is that I walk like the slo mo version of the tin man when I go to the water fountain in between sets.

Keep it burning,

Eric

Life is a journey

March 2, 2009

Let me tell you something about life. So I never get sick and have been sickness free for 3 years–Thank you Jesus!–and I’m sure many of us haven’t been sick in awhile. Believe it or not, this includes, coughing, aching, fever, headaches, stuffy nose, sore throat, head colds, and any really bad sicknesses–not boasting just factual. Anyways, about five days ago, my luck ran out.  I was hitting the gym pretty hard, I’m still in the bulking stage, and BAAM! After a good 2 hour workout, I usually jog home since my gym is hella close by and I start to  feel a little more tired than usual–my ego was telling me those motivational phrases to get you pumped, "you probably worked out like a mad man, you’re a beast, you’re a beast! Sick ’em boy, sick ’em! Ahhh!!". Yeah, thats it…Anyways, I shake it off, get home and get my supps out to start making my protein drink. Shake it. Down it. Finished. Ten minutes later, get in the shower.  I get out and feel like I’m gonna faint. You know that wabbly feeling you get when you have a contest to see who can spin around the fastest and the most in the office chair at work when the boss is gone and you win–thats the one! I barely finished getting dressed and lie down to watch some Man vs. Wild–man I love Teevo–and almost instantly I knock out. I wake up and see its around 10:30pm. Casein Time!! Pft, ‘it’ I guess progresses when you sleep. I get up and drag to the kitchen like a zombie. After forcing down the thick drink. I go to bed. Six or seven hours pass and I get up to get ready for work and find myself on the kitchen floor. WTH?! How I got there I will never know, but I felt like I had been hit by a bus. Diagnosis: I was catching a head cold, fever and my sinuses were stuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey.  After this I sluggishly get ready for work and I try to maintain the 4000 calories in my day, (hence the bulking) and am struggling to get an appetite. Plus, I had to try and find ways to get rid of the sickness. I take cloves of garlic–bad idea to take at work but it works and the smell goes away with some chlorophyll–drink some hot water to maybe sweat it out. Helped a little. Work was killer and I thought I could hit the gym after if I did some homeopathic remedies (haha yeah right who are you kidding, overachiever) I get home 9 hours later and tried all the other homemade remedies I knew—steaming face with mint leaves, drinkin hot water with pepper, cayenne, and ginger…ughhh( dude, worse taste ever fer sure), eating more garlic (glad the pretty receptionist at work didn’t talk to me that day lol).Man did they help. Even though remedies helped the fact was that I was only forty percent better and wasn’t going to the gym…sigh. I’m glad I wasn’t stubborn about going though, because while I was out I learned about getting sick when bb from Mr. Arnold’s "Great Bodybuilding Encyclopedia" (and I’m sure all you great bodybuilders out there know this too ;) ) t Your immune system uses glutamine to maintain itself and I was hitting the gym everyday for 2-2.5 hours depleting almost all of it, even though the supps were giving me some, I guess they weren’t enough. No wonder my usual defenses couldn’t fight it. In conclusion, don’t be dumb like me and not get enough sleep because that was a big factor too(was only getting 6.5 -7 hours a night, not the 8 hours recommended). Also, stubborness is only good if it doesn’t hurt you or others.  And lastly remember, you are a big lean, not to mean, iron ravaging, beast machine..but not when your sick..ok?

 Thanks for reading ;),

 Eric
